Lloydminster Golf & Curling Centre

Lloydminster G&CC was hosting their Seniors tournament today. This is a parkland style course that has been around since 1984. Since my last visit in 2019, it looks like the exterior of the building that incorporates both the clubhouse and curling centre has been given a much-needed makeover.

This Par 72 course provides golfers of all skill levels to challenge themselves from any of the four tees on each hole. Todays round was 6,220 yards played from the white tees. The grounds crews were still out on the course completing all the finishing touches needed.

The late morning shotgun start for the 75 competitors was delayed by 30 minutes due to thunderstorms and showers that came through ninety minutes prior to the scheduled start. Skies remained overcast until the turn and then blue skies eventually appeared for the remainder of the game.

The fairways on many holes feel completely isolated by trees and demand, straight, well placed shots in order to have clear approaches into the greens. The mature trees which line most fairways are unforgiving and will penalize poorly struck shots. With the rain that came through, the rough played heavy, giving golfers another reason to find the fairways.

The greens, which are very generous in size and possessed a multitude of swales, tiers, and humps, they played fast and rolled consistently. The greens did take some time to adjust to as they were recently verti-cut, dressed and then rolled in the last two days.

Hazards included no fewer than thirty nine, well maintained fairway and greenside bunkers. You will also need to navigate your way around a total of nine water hazards found on 9 of the18 holes. Cart paths were in need of grooming and gravel as the mornings rain noticeably exposed their lack of attention.

Staff in the pro shop were welcoming and helpful. Upstairs in the restaurant, the culinary team followed the tournament with a fantastic supper. The consistently maintained and generously portioned fairways and putting surfaces make for a great test of golf. Lloydminster Golf and Curling Centre is surprisingly affordable and will satisfy golfers expectations of a great product for a great price.

Walked

Lloydminster G&CC

I'm not sure why but finding a warm welcome can be hit or miss in the pro shop. The clubhouse is shared with the curling rink and is starting to show its age. The restaurant upstairs has never disappointed.

I've played here a few times over the years as the course has got its share of some pretty good holes. I've always found it plays longer than it says on the scorecard. It's an easy walking course with a strong mix of holes. From the tees forward, the conditioning of the course was very good.

Average course. Poor service

The course is quite nice. Flat and fairly easy. Greens are quite good. Fast. Very poor service. Pro shop people very rude. Need to learn how to deal with people in a service industry.

A beautiful course

A must play. This is an 18 hole course with lots of variety. Four tee boxes allows everyone a choice of difficulty.
