Small town gem

Maple Creek Golf Course is a hidden 9-hole gem (3041 yards) located in the small town of Maple Creek, Saskatchewan. Initial expectations were low, as the course looked flat and the clubhouse was part of a curling rink, but recent rain had the course looking lush and green.

The course is a pleasant surprise. While the first two and final two holes are flat, the middle five holes are where the course truly shines. The fairways and greens become more contoured and challenging, adding an unexpected layer of difficulty. Water also comes into play on the 1st and 8th holes.

Course conditions were excellent. The tee boxes were level, and the fairways were wide and lush. The greens were in superb condition, rolling true with significant contouring to test your putting. The course uses plenty of grass bunkers and mounding to add challenge around the greens, making up for the lack of sand bunkers of which there are only 2.

Amenities include a pro shop with supplies and a food service, a patio overlooking the first tee and final green, and a practice putting green and driving range.

Would I recommend Maple Creek Golf Course? Absolutely. It’s not a bucket-list destination, but if you’re in the area, it’s well worth a stop for a quick and surprisingly enjoyable nine. And while you're at it, make time for the other nearby gem—Cypress Hills Golf Course. Together, they make for a charming prairie golf day.
