Muthaiga Golf Club

The overall experience was great. I played with some of the members and received a discount from the public price. The members were good guys and very friendly hosts. Great value and the course is challenging.

Fairways and greens were in good shape. Mandatory caddies are attentive, but don’t get in the way. Rental clubs were fair and not too expensive to rent.

The course is walking only, but it’s not bad at all.

The pro shop was not very well stocked. The only issue I had was the price of balls. I paid over $60 USD for 3 sleeves of Callaway balls. An outrageous price! It was more than the green fees!

I would definitely recommend playing there but bring your own balls!

I've lived in Nairobi 8 years and play golf twice a week off a high single figure handicap. Muthaiga is the best course and golfing experience in Nairobi. The front 9 plays long and quite tough and the second nine is easier but with water hazards. 5 par 3's, 4 of them over 200 yards (men), the other is over water. Play the Par 3s well and you'll score well. Good clubhouse, friendly staff. Other courses: Limuru (I'm a member there) and Sigona (very tight with trees but very low and very high handicappers love it) are the two next best courses after Muthiaga and then probably Karen although it's a nightmare to get too ('wrong' side of town), is expensive and people complain about the snobbery of the members and management. Play Vetlab if you are stuck for a game and Windsor (expensive and no challenge) if you want a nice walk with scenery and monkeys and are prepared to pay well over the odds for it. Courses to avoid: All others. Royal is being extensively renovated at present and should improve but it's historically been a seasonal course; either rock hard or flooded. None of the others are worth considering although, out of town, Thika Greens is a great choice on a Sunday (traffic easier) and the new Migaa course will be good when it is finished (try in 2-3 years). Green Park (Naivasha) is a hidden gem and, with the new road, you can get there in under 90 minutes from Muthaiga.
