Not every facility is of championship caliber, but others still serve a purpose in fulfilling the needs of the golfing public. Sunset is a semi-private facility that features a regulation 18-hole course, as well as a 9-hole par 3 course with holes ranging from 50 to 165 yards. So while the conditions may not be the greatest, it's hard to complain about the availability of a quick practice round on the par 3 course prior to teeing off on the big course.
When you look at the score card for the regulation course, you'll quickly determine that the back nine is much easier than the front. The front features the five easiest holes, while the back nine challenges you with significant length and the three most difficult holes. The finisher isn't considered among those holes, but is still tough at 573 yards from the back tees.
Getting there : Exit 385 off of I-20 and take Hwy. 385 north. Continue 12 miles and the course is on the left.

Terrible course
This golf course sucked. The fairways were basically dirt and rocks. The greens has crabgrass and weeds.

Conditions
HORRIBLE conditions! Fairways mostly dirt, rocks and dead grass or weeds. Greens had multiple types of grass growing and many had damaged areas filled with dirt or sand. Cart paths were basically off roading conditions. I would never play this course again even for free.

Laughable
Me and my friends had fun because we didn’t even want to seriously play, it was that bad. No grass all dirt easy place to break a club. Also I’m pretty sure it’s 20$ a round if you go in person not 50$.

Not in good condition
Greens were burnt and still no grass in fairway. Very Dirt, being sold to ECISD Schools and probably playing a major role in course conditions.

Rude Marshall
Very rude marshall, followed us constantly half way through the course trying to rush us. He kept on getting on to us because supposedly we had a big line behind us. It just takes the fun out of the sport. The old man even took our names for whatever reason, it felt like we got written up. There is more caliche and rocks than grass. I got most of my irons badly scratched due to hitting caliche rocks, so i had to pick up my ball and throw it to where there was somewhat grass weeds to not damage my cloves. If you want to spend 50 bucks to golf in the desert with a dirt dust trail constantly flying behind your golf cart, then go ahead. I'll be my first and last time golfing at sunset. Rude marshall is primary reason not to revisit..

Shut Out
I play this course a few times a year since I am a amateur golfer and it’s usually friendly but this time the “Ranger” on the course was rude and treated my party like we were teenagers up to no good. We asked if we could play the back 9 this time and the guy inside said that was ok but the “Ranger” on the course made us play the front 9 which we have played many times because he said it was too busy. I took my son with me to play as well and the “Ranger” asked, why is he playing? Umm, maybe cause I paid for him and I thought this was a family course? Throughout our play “Ranger” followed us which made it uncomfortable. Also, if it was busy, mathematically speaking, the back 9 would be more ideal to play 9 holes because if you play all 18 holes, you have to play the front 9. That means that the front 9 gets more traffic. The course was built in the 50’s and it sure felt like “good ol boy” Odessa back in the 50’s. If you know, you know.

Goat pasture has more grass
Greens are ok best part of course. Staff was great. Worst place I have ever played. It’s a shame to with lots of TLC it could be great. I hate writing negative reviews but I felt it needed to be said

Needs a lot of work. Horrible condition
My husband and I have played many golf courses and this one I would not even call a golf course. The fairways were nothing but rocks and dirt. The. Cart path is non existent except for by the pro shop and restaurant. The staff is very friendly though. The photos on the website are very deceiving and I would not have spent my money playing there.

Old men who work the front are very rude and disrespectful
Had many occasions where the older men working the front were not friendly and had a buddy that left his putter by the green and they weren’t willing to get on a cart and look for it. Terrible customer service
