Queens at Gleneagles Country Club

Its very impressive to see a course of this caliber in the middle of Plano. Even with 3 inches of rain the night before, the course was in great shape! We tee'd off at 8:30 and it was hard to find issues with the course. Kudos to the Greens and Grounds crew! The air conditioned rest rooms on the course and the ice towels are always a welcome sight in Texas.

The Queens course has plenty of water and expertly placed bunkers through out to challenge your shot making ability. The greens are in pristine shape.. Hope to play here again!

We just played the tougher of the two Gleneagles' golf courses, The King's Course.

Timing is everything when you play any golf course and today our timing was less than optimum.

This is an impressive layout right in the middle of Plano, Texas.

They are surrounded by lots of McMansions here.

We were greeted by Shawn who took our clubs and put them on our cart. The pro shop is impressive with enough merchandise to draw this visitor.

The dynamic duo of Texas Ian and Tarheel Ian run the pro shop counter in a cordial and efficient manner.

The starter was a friendly octogenarian who put us on the tee box straight away.

Timing showed up as a negative quickly. They have too many maintenance employees running willy nilly around the course. Most with little regard for golfers.

I found out that they had a fungus invade the greens here. As a result, most of the greens had large bare areas on the edges of the greens that were a yard wide and an inch and a half deep.

They had several crews filling these bare spots with new sod.

The crews were all over the holes and kept up a constant chatter.

Our shots approaching the greens were deflected or stalled in the bare areas.

Another negative was the arbitrary and random selection of Cart Path Only holes without any notice when all fairways were dry at 2 PM. Many of these CPO holes were par 5's. Holes 10, 8, 12, 16, and 18 were also the most difficult with meandering berns all over the fairway.

They had an ice and cold towel station at #13.

There is a Kings Table snack bar/restroom area that's centrally located

at #1, #9, #10, and #18. They had no buns for the hot dogs on this day.

Hole 16 was surrounded by lakes on both sides of the fairway and the green was covered with bunkers.

Hole #11 is a long par 3 with all carry over a deep gorge from the back tees.

The back nine is more difficult with many deep creeks wandering on the fairways.

This is a difficult layout under normal circumstances but the distractions caused by the green repair crews and marauding maintenance workers should be an anomaly, I hope.

We had a tee time at the Queen's course this morning.

I met Ronnie in the pro shop and he was extra courteous and spent a lot of time describing this layout.

The practice greens and bunkers are in pristine condition.

Our starter was a gentleman named Tom, he was so helpful and friendly and he even allowed us to tee off early due to a no-show group,

This is a sneaky design by Bruce Devlin that hides all the water on this track well. Water is in play on almost all 18 holes here but is mostly not obvious until you find it lurking behind one of the multiple berms.

The Crenshaw bent grass greens are flawless and the fairways are smooth but flat lies are rare.

There are lots of mature trees here and were welcome on a hot June day.

They have an amazing cart girl who happened to show up just when you needed her. She was smart enough to remain unobserved until the shot was finished.

The par 5 #3 hole can be tough for first-timers. You are faced with a narrow dogleg right and meandering berms left and right, then a steep drop in the fairway for a deep concrete drainage channel, and on the left is a deep berm that hides a small lake.

The transition from hole #3 to 4 is confusing as there are two par three holes. Make sure you cross the creek after 3 and look for #4 tee.

Hole nine is deceptive and hard to find the fairway. You are faced with a field of high berms and bunkers with a deep creek in front of an elevated green.

Hole 16 uses water in multiple locations with sand to be one of the toughest threats to par on this course.

When you finish tricky 18 you'll be glad that you survived.

This is a beautiful test of golf and will keep club members on their toes.
