Reviews
Cart Path Only but still fun
Due to the large amounts of rain we received this week, it was cart path only. We still had a good time and the greens are in fairly good shape.
Awesome day
Great way to begin the new year
Group of 5. My wife, 2 coworkers, 1coworkers grandson and myself. It was my coworkers 1st time playing the course and they were extremely impressed. It was a totally awesome day. The meal in the restaurant was equally awesome. 👍👍👍
Sloggy Golf
Love Rayburn Resort. I've been playing this course for 20+ years, looong before the redesign. The course is usually in great shape and folks are always nice. Wish the green course was still available. The day I played the course, it was 1 day off torential rain storms and the course was a mud hole. I should have been shut down for the day to allow it to dry out. If it wasn't a 3 hour drive to play, I would have not played it. Cart path only and slow. Lots of folks on the course. Hard to pass up the revenue.
Sloppy Round
The course shouldn’t have opened. After all the rain East Texas received recently, the course was unplayable. Cart path only, should have been closed. Love the course, layout. Have played it for 20+ years and will drive from Houston on a regular basis to play it.
Fun Course
Challenging, but fair course with some phone - scenic hole designs
Bad time on course
I recently had the unfortunate experience of spending a day at Rayburn Gold Resort, and I must say it was nothing short of a disappointment. Despite the promising advertisements and appealing website, my visit revealed a stark contrast to what was expected.
Pace of Play: Slow and Frustrating
From the moment we arrived, it became evident that the pace of play was incredibly slow. What should have been an enjoyable round of golf turned into a test of patience. It felt as if we were waiting on every hole, and we easily lost track of time. An experience meant to be relaxing turned into hours of frustration as we stood around, watching the clock tick away.
Course Conditions: Below Par
The condition of the golf course left much to be desired. The fairways were uneven and riddled with patches of grass that looked unkempt. The greens, rather than being well-maintained and smooth, were bumpy and slow. For a resort that markets itself around a golf experience, it was shocking to see such neglect in maintenance. It seems like corners were cut, leaving the course far below what one would expect from a premium golfing destination.
Value for Money: Poor
Given the quality of the experience, I found the pricing at Rayburn Gold Resort to be unreasonably high. The greens fees do not reflect the reality of the course conditions or the quality of service provided. I expected an experience that would justify the cost, but I instead felt shortchanged. There are many other courses in the area that offer far better value, and I would recommend seeking those out instead.
Off-Course Amenities: Lacking
To compound the issues, the off-course amenities were subpar. The restaurant service was slow, and the menu options were limited and unappealing. The overall atmosphere felt more like a rundown diner than a luxurious resort. Additionally, other facilities, such as the pro shop, lacked a proper selection of gear and apparel. Overall, it was a jarring contrast to what one would anticipate from a purportedly high-end resort.
Final Thoughts
If you are considering a visit to Rayburn Gold Resort, I suggest looking elsewhere. The slow pace of play, poor course conditions, lack of value, and disappointing amenities amount to an experience that is simply not worth it. Golf is meant to be an enjoyable and enriching experience, and my time at Rayburn was anything but that. Save your time and money for a place that truly values its guests and provides the quality they expect.
Rayburn Resort Golf
I have played Rayburn several times and loved it. Just this particular day the pace of place was super slow. Did more waiting than golfing this particular day. Come to find out there were a bunch of guys there on a Stay and Play package with 5 on each team playing there on ball. I will call clubhouse and ask before booking next time. We didn’t get to finish before the carts were due in.
Too slow on But it was Friday
Pace of play was horrible but it was Friday afternoon and there was a large crowd on the course.
Awesome Day !
We enjoyed 18 holes of golf and ended the evening with a delicious meal in club house. It was an awesome day.
Nice course. Beautiful area.
I love playing Rayburn Country. Had a drunk foursome of numbnuts holding up most of the people playing. It would’ve been nice to have a marshal. Overall, it was a fun day on a beautiful course.
was shocked to see fivesomes on weekend play. Pace of play was extremely slow. When you have fivesomes all over the course you get slow play. Come on
Great weekday course
Had a great time...only issue was the greens are bare in some spots but the are sanded and fertilized.
Rayburn Country 9-26-24
Overall everything was really good. My only critique would be the condition of some of the greens. But, great place and love playing there.
