Great public golf in Hartford
Hartford residents who play Goodwin Park (Goody to locals) should count their blessings that they have such a good public course at reasonable prices. There is a practice range and a short course adjacent to the 18-hole course. Lot of interesting holes. When you're done, grab lunch at their restaurant. We did several days and raved about the food and service. I had a burger and chicken salad sandwich and they were exceptional. My wife camped out on the perch overlooking the course and the server came out and set up a big umbrella to protect her from the sun. Now that's great customer service! Looking forward to our return their next year.
course conditions
I have played this course in the past and the condition of he greens and fairways are vastly improved over what I experienced the last time I played hear several years ago. I would recommend this course to golfers of any level. The staff have done a tremendous job upgrading this course.
Good Course.
Had fun playing this course. Needs directional signage.
Much improved
I taught my son to play on this course 20 years ago. It was always a bit of a dog track. I quit playing this course 4 or 5 years ago because it became so neglected that I assumed it would be abandoned or sold to developers. I was told that the Ct. PGA had taken charge of resurrecting this old historic course and so I played last week. I was amazed at the improvement. I also noticed there were better players and the pace was great. Keep improving this course, give it some teeth (i shot a 70) and golfers will flock back!
Ok
Ok course was not in great shape
A not friendly administration
It's too expensive for the condition of the course and the head of the PGA doesn't have an once of charisma and no good with the public plus it's the must expensive instructor in the are especially for the inner city, no skill dealing with the public...
Not bad, but could be much better.
Fairways definitely need some love. Tee boxes also pretty beat up on a several holes. For me the biggest disappointment was the goose droppings all over the place. Tees and greens included. Maybe it was a bad day, but I haven't seen that much brown on a course in a long, long time. I want to come back because I never play a course just once. The range is great and the staff is always awesome when I grab a bucket, but I was a bit disappointed by the course.
Pleasant surprise
Pleasant surprise. I hadn't been to Goodwin park in 10 years. I knew it went through bad times but it was a pleasant surprise. Greens were great. Fairways And Taes could use a little work. Nevertheless a fun and enjoyable day.

How can you give it 5 stars if the fairways and tees need a little work? It may be better than it used to be but 5 stars would be like the absolute best course in the state, which this course is definitely not.
Flats Course
There was a tournament going on for the main 18 hole course, so we played the "flats" 9 hole course. Course was in good shape, the money the city put in shows very well. The flats is fairly short, but puts you in some interesting go for vs lay up situations. Greens rolled very well, rough wasn't unmanageable, not much in terms of first cut around the greens or fairways, but overall in good shape. Can't wait to see how the rest of the course plays!
Goodwin course
The golf course need work but the was food excellent
Good value but not outstanding
The greens are fantastic and most of the holes are absolutely wide open, great to work on long irons and driving. A few holes have burnt or poor fairways but otherwise it's not a bad little track. It's easy to get on and give it a good walk because this course is never busy, but the full 18 backs up more often.
Goodwin
The course was in good shape for early in the season. Aeration holes were visible on the greens and tee boxes. The greens played slow because of this. Fairways were cut short and the second cut was just high enough to hide your ball until you were about 10 feet from it. There were water coolers throughout the course approximately every third hole. I would play this course again. Maybe tomorrow.
Course Has Come a Long Way
I played this course back in 2012 and the conditions were very poor, so I had not planned on returning. However, a new management company has turned things around significantly. The course was in great shape, greens were rolling well, and the fairways were lush. Great weekend value as well!
Much better under new management
Public course which is fun to play. Easy to do a quick 18.
On the road to recovery!!!
Let say I grew up on goody,I've been there through the days of Mike R. American Golf and in between, so I have a good understanding of what Goody has been through, the reclamation project looks like it's in good hands, these guys are doing a fantastic job with such little time, please keep up the good work, hope the Keney project is a success too,and remember to keep the rates reasonable and the people will come to play,Hartford county has been devastated economically $25 per round will pack the place, but $35 will send people else where
Rainy day!
It was raining and cold ; but we had a great time playing in the rain
! The course was great considering the weather was awful! We got our 18 hole in two hours and fifteen minutes! It was a great day for me and my partner. Thanks again for this great day!
Nice Municipal
Course has come a long way. Needs to be kept up but management is doing a wonderful job. Lot's of potential. Will play it again in the future to see how it has progressed.
Still impressed with how far this course has come along this year
Course is in great shape overall.... they have the leaves well under control, we did not lose a single ball and did not have to clear paths on the greens to make putts... nice job.
There have been many improvements since this review. I'd like to see more reviews.
