16th Hole Photo submitted by ajmager on 07/31/2018
Great potential
I'd like to play again in 2 years.
Great looking course, every hole is different.
Many shots where you can't see the pin, makes for a tough round.
The GPS on the carts sure helped see what was coming, as being new, there was nothing online.
No beverage carts made for a hot day. Seems they would have sold alot when it's 85 degrees.
Clubhouse bar is small as a closet, why spend so much on the course and make a tiny clubhouse?
Potential
This course is still raw, but that's expected considering it has only been open for a few weeks. The GPS in the golf cart was very helpful considering it's hard to find any information about this course online yet, and with the hills there are a few blind shots. There are a number of rocks on the course. The rough is in okay shape in some places, but very patchy in others. The longer grass is thick in some places, but the ground is very bumpy which makes the direction the ball bounces unpredictable if you find yourself in there. However, the fairways were in pretty good shape and the greens were in very good shape. The bunkers were fair and the sand was actually fairly fluffy. The rocks on the course are further off into the rough and in the long grass, I didn't see many, if any, in the fairways or on the greens. The tee boxes are uneven. I did hear about that ahead of time and was worried about it, however, it wasn't as big of a deal as I imagined. Even with them being uneven, I was able to find a flat spot on every box so none of my tee shots were affected. It was not as drastically uneven as I was afraid of. It sort of gives the course more of a casual and rustic feel as opposed to something that is annoying. There are dramatic elevation changes on some holes, and it's visually stunning even now. At the end of the round, I found that my score was right in line with what I usually shoot, so even though the course needs time to mature, it is playable as it is.
Bottom line, this course probably isn't worth the amount they are charging for it right now. However, it will be soon. It's a beautiful course, and I am really looking forward to seeing it in a couple years. If you're curious to see a great course in it's infancy stage, go ahead and play it. As long as you go into it knowing what to expect as far as the conditions, you won't be disappointed.
Course is no good for the money should not be open
We have our annual golf trip every year at Island Resort and we were excited for this new course. When we got to the course the pro shop guys were nice and friendly, as we stepped out by the carts the started said we should not have come, that the course is not ready and should not be open. Right away we saw that he is right, not only is there not one flat lie on the tee boxes, but there is rock all over the course. You cannot hit out of the certain spots fairway or rough because it is solid rock. On one hole they know about a hornets nest next to the green and instead of taking care of the problem, they put a sign up next to the tee box telling you to watch out. Getting hounded by the rangers all day seems to be a problem, they are very rude and will follow you and see if they can catch you doing something. My suggestion is to go pick rocks off the course, make yourself useful. I will say that the greens are going to be good, they are in pretty good shape, but the rest of the course is junk. If you are going up there do not waste a round on this course you will not be happy it cost you $85. The course is a $35 the way it sits
A real challenge
This is a course to put in your must play destination list for 2020. The course just opened up this year so it needs a few years to let the ground level out and really hit its full potential. From the tips it plays a long challenging 7,300+yds and is not for the faint of heart. Beautiful design and layout gives it an easy 4 out of 5 stars the only hold back in design is the natural tee boxes, I think the course designer missed the mark vastly when creating this concept. The course is challenging enough to add this type of tee box (I’ve never even heard of this concept and have folded all over the US and Europe) is a touch much.
We just played it and wow was it great golf. The rough is treacherous but that's part of the challenge. Go back and give it another try!
