Buffalo Run Golf Course
About
Buffalo Run Golf Course is a locally acclaimed 18-hole, municipal course in Commerce City. The links-style layout covers 7,411 yards from its longest tees with a par of 72. Designed by Keith Foster, there are challenging elements such as water hazards and bunkers that come into play on the course. The wind creates difficulty on this golf course. Buffalo Run Golf Course's front nine is less challenging than the back nine but it builds up good practice for the second half of the game. One hole to note is the demanding 13th hole. It is a par-3 that has a well-placed bunker near the green.

This was typical rough today. Photo submitted by Kofoed27 on 06/14/2021
They are working on the driving range so max distance you can hit is 200. They do not keep up with the first cut or even the second cut. If you don’t find the fairway you are better off dropping a ball in the fairway. Hitting out of the rough you might hit a ball 20 yards and that is it. Will not be going back
Nice course
I really enjoy thus course. Has some challenging holes and fun holes. The staff is nice. I haven't eatin at the restaurant, but it looks and smells great!
Warnings are needed for this coirse
The course was in rough shape. Lots of bare spots, and ground under repair. However the entire back 9 has giant construction trucks everywhere. Dirt flying through the air. They paired us up with walkers and we were in a cart!!. 4 hours and 50 minutes. Then our walkers tell us they paid 44.00 and we paid 66.00. We should have been warned about the conditions and never charged 66 bucks. We live in Florida and play championship courses for 40. We will not return.
Challenging
You would normally expect the green layout at a much more expensive course! The greens had so many unforeseen breaks it made putting very frustrating. Great course overall and a good getaway for a few hours!
Tough Rough
They setup the 2nd cut with buffalo grass (knee high). Very tough if not a straight shooter.
Good course, fun day, nice folks
I've played this course probably a dozen+ times. Some recent reviews panned the ground under repair areas and conditions. Well, that had improved over the season significantly. Though you can understand how the location and dry season challenged the course. Only a few holes (#2, 15) have decent sized GUR areas and some small other ones. They top dressed the greens recently, but it's not too bad. It helps in the long run.
The course has a fun layout with distance challenges if you want it (e.g. #13's black tee 260y par 3, yeehaw!) and strategic bunkers to make you use course management... unless you like playing in the beach.
One nice feature for this winter is that this course will open quicker after snow than many. Also the terrain is such that it's often not cart path only when others are.
The prices can be quite enticing, like $30 to walk on weekdays and $20 after 12p in the off season. They also ran a terrific golf expo deal this year. Thanks!
The restaurant/bar is pretty good, too.
The staff is nearly always friendly. Sadly, from a couple reviews, I guess some others have experiences different than mine. They've always been good to me and my golfing partners.
Also one cool thing that they do for seniors on Mondays is this birdie every hole once for the season and win a free round. That's a great goal! I look forward to aiming for that.
This is always a course I look forward to playing.
Eh
Price way too high for conditions. Dead spots and unplayable lies all over the course. Ground under repair areas, consist of large portions of the course. Could be a really decent track. For price, time, and enjoyment other options are available.
MOST HOLES HAVE GROUND UNDER REPAIR!
To much roped off areas, 2, 7,, 8,, 10, 11, 13, 14, 15, 16, all have "under repair " areas it's super bad on a couple landing areas.
Could be better, $$$ Conditions
Super Slow pace of play.
Fairways in poor shape.
Greens above average.
Good layout, much too pricey for the conditions of the course.
Great day of golf
Great course. Pace of play was a little slow, but you have to expect that on a Saturday. Course was in good shape and Golf Now deal was great. Well worth the money...
Cool course
Very well maintained and fast true greens top notch
You better Hit it straight!
WOW! I am extremely impressed with this course. From tee box to green the course was in excellent condition. The speed of the greens were tough to get used to. Speaking of tough....if you aren’t hitting it straight, you might want to choose another course. The fairways are tight and the rough is thick and unfriendly. I definitely need to play again...can’t go out like this letting the course win.
Nice course but in bad condition
I really enjoy this course, normally. Good mix of challenging and moderate holes, friendly staff, and reasonable rates. Unfortunately the course is just in terrible condition right now. A bit surprising, given it's the middle of the high season.
Huge areas of dead grass/dirt in most of the fairways. Several areas of ground under repair. The rough is basically a mixture of chunks of grass and dirt spots. Most of the bunkers were rock hard. I'm honestly just not sure what's going on with this place right now. On the plus side, the greens and tee boxes were all in excellent shape.
My playing partners and I all agreed we won't be back until conditions improve. Hopefully that's sooner rather than later.
Worth the drive
Nice course that is worth the drive from Denver. Price is a little steep for a public course, but worth it. Would play again.
WOW!!!
Loved the course, but the pace of play wasn't the best. Group in front of us wouldn't let us play thru an the marshal never seem to care about the pace of play. Course was in outstanding shape and green are quick. I will certainly recommend this course to play.
...and the saga continues
Played 18 holes with three guys I hope I never encounter again. Issues with pace of play and etiquette all day.
One guy starts trying to give advice right away on the first hole (he's wearing cargo shorts, an untucked shirt and some golf shoes from 20 years ago that probably have the same cleats in them). He wised up on the 2nd tee and asked if I had played here before (which I have a dozen times) and kept quiet after that. The old saying applies here "The worst kind of vice is advice." It's common sense...unless you shoot par or better, just keep it to yourself.
Same guy takes a GPS yardage for each shot and like two minutes before he's ready but then hits it fat 90% time so the ball doesn't go anywhere.
The two others were guys in their 60s barely able to bend over to put the tee peg in the ground. One guy was very inconsistent, hitting the ground the before the ball on with his driver multiple times. I understand people want to get out and play but this course is too challenging for the guys I was paired with. Play something more suited to your ability.
One of the older guys was complimenting bad shots all day shouting things aloud. That's really annoying and stupid. I'm all for giving props on a good shot. Know the difference. And remember sometimes just being quiet is O...K.
All three would never mark their putts so the hole would end up surrounded as they got closer. God forbid you had a long putt to lag.
Adding to the pace of play epidemic that is golf in the US, we ended up a whole par 5 behind for the last 6 holes (one short par 4 took us 25 minutes to play).
One long par 5 was cart path only. No mention of this by the pro shop staff. A little heads up would be appreciated.
Not a fun day at all. Definitely not worth the money.
Slow play
Course was great, staff very friendly. Only the pay was very slow course completely backed up. Marshal nice but had group that had two people walking who would not let playing thru!
