Fun but a little slow
I didn't really notice while playing but it took almost two and a half hours to play. Oh, well, nice day!
Good Value
We were a double, teamed up with two singles - great guys. No sand traps is a good thing!
A little ragged
Fairways were a little bald in spots. Greens were slower than usual. Pace of play was slow but not super slow. Ranger was out but not sure if he helped...maybe because last couple of holes went faster. Could be a good sign for pace of play.
Great practice 9 hole course
Good value, pace of play is what it is but some days it’s wide open and 1.5 hour round is great. Other days it could be 2.5 hours. Those days require patience.
Ouch
Super nice people. Course was running 20 minutes behind the tee sheet. Took 1 hour to play 3 holes so we bailed.
Goat trail
This might be the worst course I've played in the Chicago area in terms of conditions, which makes it more shocking that it's in ritzy Hinsdale.
Good stuff first: course layout is decent and has a few interesting holes, not just straight boring for 9 in a row. The staff was fantastic. Friendly, fun and enjoyed their day. The greens were well kept even though they had recently been aerated.
Everything else was pretty poor. Course was a desert, theres hardly a fairway cut on most holes.
the pace of play was absurd. I was stuck behind a group who literally (I counted) took 25 minutes to tee off and hit their 2nd shot on nearly every hole. There was a ranger who drove right past them twice and juat gave then a wave, not sure if they understood the root purpose of their job out there.
So a dust bowl no fairway 3hr round of 9 holes isn't exactly what I would call worthwhile in the midst of one of the biggest and best areas for public golf.
Being somewhat cheap (25 bucks to walk) barely made it worthwhile.
Drought taking a toll
The fairways were dried out. Though this did give you more distance. The greens and around the greens were watered so they are fine. The greens were irritated so it was a little tuff to putt well. Pace of play was good.
Slow Very Slow
I played the last two days at Meadowlark and the pace was snail like. There are rangers encouraging groups to speed up. This needs to be addressed
