Sugar Springs - Fairways and Greens
When you arrive there is always someone in front of the clubhouse to help with bags and getting oriented. Staff is all really friendly and there are always good deals in the well stocked pro-shop. Practice putting green is nice and driving range is excellent.
For the course: I really appreciate the layout and variety of holes. There are some shorter risk and reward par 4's, some difficult up hill shots, and the par 3's are all challenging.
The fairways are always plush and the rough is usually cut down short and pretty easy to play out of with very few bad or buried balls.
The 9th and 18th hole finish along side of each other so keep your ears open as a lot of golfers tend to play the wrong fairway :-)
Restaurant overlooking the 18th hole is great with solid food options.
Good Value for the Area
Sugar Springs is a solid golf course. It is nothing incredible, but it is a good course. The layout offers a variety of hole designs with some definite birdie opportunities. It relies mostly on elevation and trees to create a challenge, while also incorporating some bunkers and water. The course is always in good shape, but is kept kind of long in the fairways and greens. The greens are pretty undulating, so the slower speed takes some of the bite out of them. Bottom line, if you want to play in the Gladwin area and don't feel like driving to or paying for The Nightmare or The Dream, Sugar Springs is your best option!
