Excellence!
I've played just about every course in the Kalamazoo/Battle Creek area this year and Bedford Valley was the best value of this year! I am a member at another course in the area that has highly touted greens.... Bedford Valley's were better. In fact, they were the nicest greens I've played on this year! The rest of the course was simply stellar. The staff was great, the course was great, play moved at a good, quick pace and I had a wonderful time... until I added up my score. Which speaks highly for BV's challenging nature. And speaking of nature, the course is beautiful. The ol' girl might be a bit of a drive, but she is the forgotten jewel in the Scott's family crown! Hats off to the staff and crew who work there! Thank you for the attention to detail. Mowed roughs, manicured sand in the traps, plush fairways, and excellent greens.... It doesn't get any better than this! Thanks Bedford Valley!
Excellent
It use to be a private course and you can tell nice lay out, nice conditions and staff was good I will definitely be returning
Great Course!
First time playing; excellent course; excellent facilities. Fairways and greens were top notch. The rough's were pretty dried up and heavily used. Lot's of sand traps! Bob the starter was very friendly and outgoing. Didn't spend much time in the pro shop, but everything looked real nice. Just a small snack shop with drinks. Will golf again!
PACE: Excellent. Was a single, and had a 4some go out 30 minutes before me. I was able to play 2 balls and never catch them, or have anyone catch me.
CONDITIONS: Some dry spots in the fairways/rough, but otherwise excellent. The greens were faster than I anticipated... I was pleasantly surprised by that. Bunkers were good.
STAFF: Very friendly and sociable.
VALUE: I'm already looking forward to paying them another greens fee.
LAYOUT: This feels like an older course (built in 1965) and I love that. The greens are not too tricked up (though they are fast). Very few (if any) blind tee shots. And big bunkers built to splash your ball out of. I like how the course rolls through the terrain too. Lots of fun!
Bedford is always a solid track
Always enjoy playing Bedford. Props to the lawn crew. Greens were a nice speed, fairways had cool patterns. Staff was great. Got checked in quickly, bar staff was very nice and accommodating.
If it wasn’t for the nice guy in the pro shop. I would never consider this course again!! Greenskeeper’s need to learn to stay in their lane!!
Very well kept
Great corse, some hard holes most not to bad alot of sand traps but not to hard to avoid, would definitely recommend. We shall return
Classic golf course
Course was in great shape. Very classic course with bunkers guarding most greens. No trickery in course lay-out, what you see is what you get. Ranger was super friendly and some slower groups let us play through. Greens were a tad slow for my taste, but overall a great golf course.
Nice course, SLOW play
Beautiful, well maintained course, but the foursome of regulars in from of us wouldn't let our twosome play through and were VERY SLOW
Why you SHOULD play Bedford Valley Country Club
Booked round the day prior on GolfNow due to golfing being a last minute decision, and we were happy we picked Bedford Valley. The course was in good shape, which was even more impressive considering it is the end of September. I was hesitant to play here due to being part of Gull Lake View group - played Stoatin Bay two weeks ago and the course was in horrible condition. Bedford Valley changed my perception of the group.
There was limited merchandise as well as beverage/food options, but I’m guessing that is due to playing near the end of season. Merchandise was 30%, so if you play this fall check out their pro-shop.
They had new carts (gas) which were nice. The carts don’t have GPS which was a drawback, especially not knowing the course and/or distances to hazards. If you use a GPS app or range finder you will be fine.
There weren’t many cart paths, so at times it was confusing where to go for the next tee box, but it is easy enough to figure out quickly - just know you may make a wrong turn or two.
There was standing water in some bunkers, but unless the course can control the weather I’m not sure you wouldn’t run up against that same issue anywhere.
The course reminds me of a northern Michigan course with trees surrounding it, and in the fairways. I loved the layout, but if you don’t control your drives you may not enjoy this course. There is distance to some of the holes, and well placed hazards / tree-lines to ensure if you hit a great shot you are rewarded if playing against someone who may hit the ball a mile but has no idea where it is going.
There wasn’t water coolers or bathrooms on the course - which is a drawback - especially if you play on a warmer day.
Overall, this is a good course and one I would recommend to anyone wanting to go out and golf. I would play again.
