Emerald Hills just keeps getting better!
I have been playing an occasional round of golf at Emerald Hills (previously known at Alwyn Downs) for the past 3 years. The conditions of the course and the greens just continue to get better and better. The staff is friendly and helpful, the food and beverage options are great! Very good menu options after you're done with your round.
Great course enjoyable round
My wife and I play this course a couple of times a year. We come up for a mini get away stop by the casino with an afternoon if golf. Course was in excellent condition, fairway and greens very well keep. We played 18 in 3 hrs 15 min. Staff if very friendly. They have a nice tavern with cold drinks and good food. Definitely put this course on you list when in the area.
Nice course
Nice course. They've done a ton of work to it. Greens are maintained, new sand in all the traps, nice renos to the clubhouse. Some of the tee boxes were a little tore up but not bad. Some fairways and tee boxes play a little tight to each other but not uncomfortably so. Just gotta keep a heads up at times. Would definitely recommend. Keep up the great work.
Not for me
Let me first say that I only paid $19 through golf now to play Emerald Hills. At that price, I had pretty low expectations going in. Pulled into the parking lot (well….a dirt area and an unkempt asphalt area). Parked and walked past the carts, which all had torn seats, like a pretty significant portion of the foam was exposed. Stepped into the clubhouse and was greeted with an awful aroma. I am not sure what it was, but that place stunk! Best guess is a cross between a wet dog and a musky mildewy odor. Was a bit early so practiced some putting as they do not have a driving range. Watched what I would describe as a four man bachelor party tee off from number one. It was clear that they likely have never golfed before. Then a single went off who was at about the same skill level. Two older gentlemen than teed off and yet again, could use some time at a driving range. We teed off and for the next five miserable hours, experienced extreme slow play and lack of etiquette. Aside from the usual groups not letting faster players through, I saw two dudes, from separate groups, wearing g-string like gym tank tops, every group seemed to have music going in the cart at high sound levels, a lot of drinking, a lot of beginners (good for them!), and just confusion and disorder on the first tee (late groups, early groups, large gaps). Best way I could describe it is a decently manicured course with surprisingly decent greens, plays really short at 5500 yards from the whites, par 70 ( you won’t find a scorecard online) disorderly free for all. I believe the normal price is mid $30s to mid $40s, and I would not pay that much to play there. If I had a chance to play again for $19, I would not pay that much to play there.
Challenging but fun!
Great fareways! And thick roughs! Greens were perfect!!! Definitely will be back!
Great first experience
My first time playing this course. Staff was super friendly, and inviting. The layout of the course is if not the top favorite then close to it. I love that the par 4’s are drivable if I’m having a good swing that day! Map was very helpful! ESPECIALLY from hole 7-8 big gap between the 2 but they also have signs with arrows for hole 8! Hoping to return soon and bring more people with my entire family golfs but none have been east of Kalamazoo to golf!
Decent little track
As the title implies, I enjoyed playing this course. The routing is decent, nothing too special. For those who walk, be aware of the gap between the 7th and 8th holes. Two of the par 3s were playing less than 130 yards, a bit too easy in my opinion. I’m not a long hitter, but was often left with a short iron or wedge in on par 4s. My only really issue is that this course is not registered by the USGA or available on the GHIN App. That is absolutely something that needs to be made clear on the course description
Good value beautiful course layout
Course was in great shape. Wife and I played 18 in just over 3 hours. Look forward to playing here a couple of times a year when we visit Battle Creek always an enjoyable experience.
Fun course to play!
Love playing this course. Pro shop guy was super friendly and helpful.

Mid-November Golf at Emerald Hills GC
The course was in very good shape for Mid-November in Michigan. The leaves were not too bad and the greens were in decent condition and fairly consistent in speed.
