Newberry Country Club
About
Newberry Country Club is located in the Upper Peninsula just 45 minutes north of the Mackinaw Bridge. Opened in 1922, the golf course has long been northern Michigan's premier play. The layout underwent a major redesign in 2013 that added new bunkers, tee boxes, fairways and approach cuts. The course was also lengthened by 300 yards. In addition to the strategically placed bunkers and mature trees, water also comes into play on a few holes in the form of ponds and streams and the gently rolling terrain provides a few tricky lies. The renovations made it a more challenging layout from the back tees but golfers of all skill levels, from novice golfers all the way up to scratch golfers, will be pleased by the overall playability and three different sets of tees.

Fantastic club house. Course well maintained with most fairways open and forgiving. A beautiful up North course I would recommend to any golfer.
Great Experience
Overall a great course and facility. Lots of hills but beautiful scenery! I would definitely recommend this course to anyone in the area.
Lots of slopes on greens.
It was the first time that I have played there and it was very enjoyable and challenging. The front nine seems to play more difficult than the back. Will be back occasionally, it is an hour's drive over a border!
Redesign well done!
While I have played this golf course for almost 60 years (started real young) the transformation from a nine hole course to eighteen and the recent redesign by Mike Husby has created a very playable course regardless of skill level. Several new back tees are almost ready which will make it a challenge from the tips.It's not real long which is a refreshing change from most newer courses.
The new owner has built a fine facility and the course is very well maintained. I will be back!
This course in below average condition
NCC has always been a straight forward, fun golf course. Now under new management, it has been altered a bit, mostly in a favorable way. However, the changing of superintendent or the lack of money being spent on course conditions or both has taken NCC's greatest asset of the past: course condition. The fairways, greens, and tees up until this season have always been excellent. Now, they are not. There are burned areas on the greens, and the fairways, which used to be pristine, are now just average or below. Bring back the old greenskeeper!

Fantastic round of golf. Everything a golfer wants in a day of golf is presented here. Challenging fairways, greens, and layout. I can say this course will be one of my favorites.

I think the changes to the course at Newberry Country Club will be fantastic and the clubhouse is beautiful.
I do think the normal rate of $50 for this year is high, but we took advantage of a hot deal and we paid a very fair price. Looking forward to continuing to play there in the future.
