Farmstead Golf & Country Club - Valleyview/Lakeview Course
About
The Valleyview nine is the most difficult course at the 27-hole Farmstead Golf & Country Club, which is located in northwest New Jersey approximately one hour from New York City. Small greens, tree-lined fairways, hilly terrain and out of bounds on seven of nine holes are among the reasons the Valleyview nine is a test. The Byron Phoebus design opened in 1979.

A rude starter
If you're not a white friend of the starter living in the neighborhood, find another place. There's plenty of friendly golf courses nearby. You can't start your fun golfing time off with a dirty mood.
Manager, please train the starter. I know business is going well these days, You have to think after this time. Starter's attitude is irrational and racist. The same unpleasant experience is second.
Farmstead is greatly improved
I have not played Farmstead in at least 15 years and was very happy with the quality of play. The course is well maintained and the bunkers were excellent - they were problematic years ago when I played here. Greens were recently aerated and were bumpy and a bit slower. Some tee boxes were a bit ragged and there was some water damage on a couple of fairways. Overall an enjoyable round. Farmstead is back on my list of courses to play.
Review
Beautiful and well spaced golf course. Somewhat challenging with a ton of bunkers and water. Only downfall was the pace of play with the players in front of us who took 5 practice swings before every shot. We were held back for about an hour waiting for them to play, poorly.
Great Course
It was my first time playing this course. I kept seeing all of the reviews and I couldn't resist the price. The course is setup with three nine hole courses which keeps the course moving. I will definitely be coming here more often.
beautiful setting, good track, decent conditions
The location is exceptional - rustic NJ with a ton of land and lakes, hills, and valleys. The course is well maintained and with the exception of too many ball marks that were not repaired (unfortunately typical these days and not really something the course can control) the greens rolled true and had decent speed (not lightning quick but not too slow or fuzzy). We played at 4:30pm and unfortunately the tee times were running 15 minutes late due to a cart shortage - disappointing given the fact that we knew we were pressed for time already. And the first 2-3 holes were backed up but then the pace of play got better as the front 9 went on. Overall a worthwhile experience.
3 Nine Hole Course, Good Condition, Great value
I play here twice a month. Overall, I really enjoy it. 3 Nine Hole course. Lakeview and Clubview are best of the 3 9s. Valley view is a little short and narrow. Also, $30 riding after 4. Cant beat that. Cart attendants are out past noon which is nice. Very friendly staff.
Great course
Farmstead is in beautiful shape. I'd recommend playing here anytime. From tee box to green it's fantastic!
good day of golf
greens needed divot care, fairways in good condition, rough well trimmed. course is always fun and a little different on each hole. Lots of wildlife. Little algae accumulation on corners of water holes, but generally not buggy. efficient staff and good grill and restaurant food and service.
beautifully landscaped
The only thing I can complain about is the t boxes.Needs a lot of work. Everything else was fine.
Still good!
Lake/Club is always good. Tee boxes are getting beaten up, but that’s expected in late August into September. Please get the hot dog from the halfway house. It’s the best!
Good
Course was in good condition considering it rained a lot the day before especially the greens. The starter wasn’t too friendly and I never liked the fact they don’t let you take the cart until a few minutes before tee time. Hot dog was yummy
Mismanagement
I just wanna say the starter is only staff member that was a problem rest of employees were cool. Starter sits in a cart and just barks orders at people, not very golfer friendly. To me it’s not worth the hour drive and money to play on average conditions. Slow play was annoying if we got 18 in would’ve been 5 hour round no rangers out to police pace. Played it almost 10 times, definitely last time. Good for the locals but not worth the drive, and way overpriced
Tee box and greens
If you like teeing off on a hilly patchy and uncut tee box this is the place for you. Greens patchy course layout not fun at all. Terrible drainage.
