Dogwood/Oak Tree at Middle Island Country Club
About
Middle Island Country Club sits almost at the center of Long Island and has been one of the area's most popular public golf courses since first opening in 1965. The 27-hole course is divided into three nines that are played in different 18-hole combinations. The entire layout was carefully carved from 225 acres of the Lustengarten Nursery. Middle Island's Dogwood/Oak combination features narrow fairways lined with trees. The greens on the front nine are the most challenging of any of the three nines. They have subtle breaks that leave many golfers wondering how they "just missed" it. The Oak nine is almost as tough, but you will get a slight break. It requires careful course management since there are many doglegs that can make it play longer than what's indicated on the scorecard.

Well kept
The course is in much better shape then in the past. Now that I know it is I will be playing it again in the future
Great Value
$15.00 for 18 holes with a cart on a Friday is amazing. I looked online and going rate was $50. Thanks Golfow. I played off the blues and the course played very long. A 488 yard par 4 and 3 par 3"s of 187, 205 and 210 yards. The course was in great condition. The greens were large but the speed was quite slow and made for tough putting, We were a twosome and caught up to a foursomes so waiting a bit. There are 3 (9) hole course so you can avoid a wait if you choose the right 9. I think excellent value and will go again.
very long course from the white tees and uphill
alot of times going into a breeze can change alot
of the way you play, overall demanding yet fair layout ..be ready to reach for something extra in your bag
Not worth the weekend fees
Needs TLC and an eye for trimming. Greens airrated with out notice.
What could be
Although the fairways, greens and tee boxes for the the most part were average, a ball just a few feet off the fairway were less then a desirable. Missing the green by 5 feet should be expected a nice grassy lie. The building hasn't had a new coat of paint or the carpet updated in years. The course is a great layout, but ownership not putting any money into course and amenities for capital improvements leaves this course as a pass by to better courses near by
Vast Improvement
First time that I played here this year. They are making great strides in the overall appearance of the course. Tee to green, it is a very good course to play. Looking forward to going back soon.
Love the course. Beautiful scenery. One problem.. They have no water for 18 holes. If people don't know that it can be a problem
Clubhouse is outdated and very old.
NICE
I PLAYED BY MYSELF. THREE GROUPS LET ME GO AHEAD, PLAYED IN LESS THEN 2 HOURS. {TWO BALLS) THE COURSE HAS SOME LONG PAR 4'S. THERE ARE THREE 9 HOLE COURSES. THEY WERE IN GOOD SHAPE. SOME HOLES ARE LONG AND NARROW. I GOT A GREAT PRICE AND A FAST ROUND, PERFECT FOR ME.
Interesting layout
After playing here several years I can see the money that they have put into this course and have made great changes to improve it. I think perhaps it's just that my golf game has elevated and I would rather play on much more pristine courses that don't cost much more than what I paid for Middle Island. Don't like being penalized for missing the green by just a bit and having to chip off of crabgrass or patches of dirt. The sand bunkers on the Dogwood were mostly dirt and not sand. They have been that way for a while. The fairways were Immaculate and the greens were just fair and true. I guess if my game was so elevated I'd be hitting greens and Fairways and wouldn't have a beef. I hate to give this course a negative review ,so I will say this, if you have never played it, it is definitely worth a shot.
