Follow the scenic Colleton River at Crescent Pointe Golf Club in Bluffton, South Carolina

BLUFFTON, S.C. -- Playing Crescent Pointe Golf Club never gets old. With three holes flirting with the scenic Colleton River, this 6,773-yard par-71 course both delights the senses and creates thrilling theater.

The Arnold Palmer design opened in 2000 as a semi-private playground just six miles from Hilton Head Island.

"It's one of the courses down here you don't get bored of playing," said Stephen Neville, head professional at Crescent Pointe. "It's rough. Every tee shot, approach, there's a challenge. It's got great views. It is not a plain golf course. Each hole has something different to look at."

Water lurks around every twist of the fairway, adding strategy and drama on nearly every shot. Member Harold Wiggins estimates that 16 holes feature forced carries of some kind.

"A lot of guys [members] move around to play other courses, but I never really care to go," he said. "This satisfies me."

Crescent Pointe Golf Club's epic ninth green rises from the marsh as an island par 3 surrounded by trouble, playing as long as 219 yards from the tips.

The day finishes along the river for the final two holes, a gorgeous setting that leaves a lasting impression. Misses to the right of the par-5 17th hole and the long par-4 18th hole will disappear, just like your chances for a good round.
