You don’t get what you pay for…
Affordable golf is not a thing in PV. I booked this because $90 was the cheapest tee time on GolfNow that allowed you to play18 before sunset. The course looks like it was once nice, but they do not maintain it any longer. Must be why all the tee times were available here. I wouldn’t pay $35 to play this course in Denver. Too bad. I guess if they maintained it, I’d have to pay $200 like the other courses, though. At least we had the place to ourselves.
Nice Views, Decent Track
If it weren’t for the palm trees, mountains and a couple of ocean views this would be on par with an average muni. Greens were decent but doesn’t seem like they roll them. I actually played here on Sunday 10/22/23 and again on Tuesday 10/24/23. We played it because it was near a resort where several of us were staying for an event. The other courses were further away and more expensive still. Golf in Puerto Vallarta is generally way over priced. This course ranges from $160 down to $70. If it were at home in the Austin area where I live it would have to be $50 or less to stay competitive.
It is a pretty thanks to the natural landscape and it’s an interesting course due to a challenging layout and hidden water. For me green condition makes or breaks a course and for a resort course, these greens were not even close to my expectations. Again, they were below standard of the municipal course I play back home. That said. Because everything in PV is overpriced, this is probably the best bang for the buck. Even though it leaves you wanting. Also, if you have a non-playing spouse or friend who wants to tag along, they won’t allow it. They wanted a green fee for my wife to ride with me. She never plays and rides with me at many courses. Occasionally we have to pay have a cart fee but never a green fee like this course required.
If you do end up going, the cart girls make a great margarita, and it helps you not care as much about paying above average prices for an average or slightly below average playing experience.
Post hurricane
Post hurricane? Course fairways and greens were in great shape. Lots of fallen trees. Club lowered price to adjust for what had happened. Cart paths are in poor condition, restrooms were clean and rental clubs were acceptable for the price. Helpful staff everywhere.
Good but can better
Course overall is good, sadly half of it was flooded due to the hurricane.
Where there is things to be desired is with the staff.
Being a last minute decision to play, and they forced us to get a set of clubs per person, not the worst but a first for me.
All greens are open
It was great to see that all temporary greens are gone. The new greens are looking good but still are very sandy. The course is in good shape but the sand traps are still in terrible shape. They need to rake them when they are dry. They are lumpy with deep groves.
All in all it was a great afternoon and the course played well.
I highly recommend this course.
Great afternoon for golf
The course is in decent shape, the greens on the front 9 are starting to fill in after being aerated, although there are still temporary greens on 1, 10, and 14. The sand traps are pretty rough as they are not raked smooth.
There isn't much play in the afternoons so it makes for a very comfortable round. Especially if you like to hit multiple balls on certain shots. The beverage cart girls are very nice and attentive!
I highly recommend this course!
Excellent course
This is an excellent course. Well-maintained with an interesting layout and great views.
Greens punched on front 9
The course is in decent lshape. They still have 3 temporary greens ans the greens on the front side were recently punched so they are still pitted and sandy. Still, it was a delightful afternoon on the course.
Soggy afternoon
Played on Aug 31st in the afternoon. The fairways were very soffy, had to clean off the mud on every shot. Shoes were also covered in mud. It was cart path only. The greens were in good shape but everything else was saturated with water.
Not Worth It in August
Besides multiple temporary greens, the entire course felt like it was in repair. Fairways didn’t drain well after rain. Bunkers were full of rocks/water/mud. There were lots of maintenance workers on the course but none seemed to be tending to any of the course issues.
Last but not least, the food was country club pricing - not Mexico pricing. Even additional bottled waters weren’t gratis! On a bright note, the papas fritas that accompanied the club sandwich my fiancé had were excellent.
Sandy greens still in August
Based on previous reviews I almost don’t play here. Besides the sandy greens, the front and back nine were great. I’d play again but want to make sure the greens are great. I called the clubhouse and they said they were fine on the front and back nine.
Mid tier course in Puerto Vallarta
Overall a true 4/5 star course. Condition of the course was good but the cart paths took you through several neighborhood roads that weren’t all ideal. Layout was good. Driving range was great. Snacks and beverages were great too. I would say this sits well as a middle tier course in PVR. I wouldn’t pay the early day green fees to play here again but would def wait until prices drop in the afternoon.
Renovating Greens
The course is in decent shape, but be advised there are 4 greens being renovated so they have temporary greens that are really not much. That being said, still a great value for PV. Vidanta is pricier and you must have a caddie, but the course is in much better shape
Very good experience
Great course, Caddy Rosendo very goog, friendly a knowledgable of the course
Great course, good value after 230pm
It was my first time playing this course. Loved the layout, has many challenging holes, lots of doglegs. The greens were in decent shape albeit a bit inconsistent. There were 3 temporary greens that are being completely redone. The Fairways were in very good condition and the traps were a bit rough but playable. There is lots of water and danger looms with these ponds, steer clear! You've been warned.
Overall, it was an enjoyable afternoon, make sure you stay hydrated!
Look forward to playing again with a bit more course knowledge.
