My playing partner. 80 years old and still nailing his drives! Photo submitted by JettSpot on 07/11/2017
Did not disappoint
My son (16 years old) and I played this course during his spring break. We played on a Thursday afternoon, and took the 2:20 tee time with a "special rate" of $75 (per person) offered by GolfNow).
I will say that I was a little worried that reserving a tee time (and paying for it in full) through GolfNow was kind of a leap of faith for me. I used the GolfNow app twice during this trip (once here at Vidanta Greg Norman, and the other at the Marina Vallarta Course). No issues at either location. The pro shop folks had my reservation upon check in. I think the gamble is that if you miss your tee time for some reason, the golf course will not be refunding you. You'd have to work thru GolfNow somehow, and the process seems cumbersome. However, for $75 per round -- totally worth it in my opinion.
So the round cost us $182. Thats for me and my son, with a cart and unlimited range balls.
We had to rent clubs, however, and that was an additional $160. The clubs were nice, but heavily used. They were Titleist T350 irons (5-sw), plus two vokey wedges (52 and 56 degree). Also, a Titleist 4 hybrid, 5 wood and TSR2 driver. My driver had a small dent on the top, but still hit fine.
We took a Taxi from our hotel (Marriott near the Marina), which was about a 20 minute ride. There is some traffic in the afternoon, especially near the airport, so it took a little longer than normal I guess. We just gave ourselves a 2 hour buffer to make sure we got there in time to hit the range.
**The Vidanta Complex is a little confusing!
Once we arrived at the Vidanta complex, our taxi dropped us off at a reception area. This is still about 2 miles from the pro shop. We waited at this reception area for about 10 minutes, and then a large 8 seater golf cart arrived to take us to the course. I dont think there is any other way to get to the pro shop. It felt very strange, like we were visiting some type of Jurassic Park.
**There are 3 golf courses on this property -- the Greg Norman Course (par 73), the Nayar Course (par 70) and the Lakes Course (a 10 hole par 3 course with lights to play at night). All courses are accessed by the main pro shop.
Once at the pro shop, we were on our own. We checked in with the front desk and were given a golf cart. We drove over to the range and hit from pyramids of Bridgestone balls -- all you can hit.
We then made our way to Hole #1. This was the only real confusing part of the day. Hole #1 for the Greg Norman Course is about a 5 minute trip from the pro shop. There are signs leading you, but it is still super easy to take a wrong turn because there are so many paths everywhere. I think it's confusing because the Nayar course is adjacent to the Norman course, so it's easy to get lost.
We finally arrived at GN #1, and another group arrived as well but allowed us to tee off in front of them. They had an earlier tee time, but spent 20 minutes lost on the course so they arrived late.
I assumed we would have a caddie, but there was none waiting at the #1 tee. I guess I needed to ask for one while checking in at the pro shop. Oh well.
The course was impeccable. So well maintained. It felt almost illegal to drive on fairway. So pure. Most of the fairways were so tight and perfect, they were in better shape than most of the greens at my local golf courses. The greens, of course, were also great. They were fast, though, so it took some getting used to.
Overall, a very amazing time. Pace of play was perfect. I dont think we ever waited and I dont recall ever seeing anyone behind us.
We saw the beverage cart 5x while on the course.
A few crocodiles in some of the lakes on the course, and a few iguanas on the fairways.
Highly recommend!
How To Plan
1) get a taxi or Uber to Vidanta
2) They will shuttle you to proshop and mount your clubs
3) Follow signs to the range
4) Our caddy didn’t show but we were guided to hole #1. There are signs so I think we would have found it.
5) Norman course easy to maneuver.
6) Played in 3 1/4 hours starting at 2:00
Hot deal value
Good value on hot deal very frustrating and hard to navigate between a number of holes fairways and greens in good shape surounding areas a little rough staff very nice
Not worth it!!
The course was in marginal condition.
There are no signs directing you to tee boxes.
No idea how to get to holes.
To go to the 6 th and 7th hole is a 5 min drive with no direction signs.
A golf course worker had to lead us done there after we looked for it for 10 minutes.
This course should not exist. It’s an embarrassment to golf courses.
Great golf course!!!!
Excelente condition of the golf course!!!!!
Same likes PGA, Mexican Open
Mixed experience
The Course in good shape. The Nayar course wasn’t that difficult. Beautiful straight fairways, excellent greens and not many hazards. However, there is little signage and the holes don’t follow each other.
We got lost more than once. Staff could not have been more helpful but we shouldn’t have had to ask.
Really took away from the enjoyment of our game.
Play where the PGA tour plays
Had the opportunity to play the course where the Mexico Open is held, and was not disappointed. Beautiful course, perfect weather, excellent service, great course conditions, great caddie. An unforgettable experience!
The best course near Puerto Vallarta
We spend the winter in Mexico and there are 4 courses within 45 minutes that I play regularly. Prices are very high here compared to what we pay in the Chicago area and the conditions vary. Some of the courses are very dry and others have very slow greens. The Norman Course at Vidanta is, by far, the best conditioned course in the area. As the sight of the Mexico Open, it makes sense that there would be better conditions. The fairways are lush and the greens are true and roll well. The daily afternoon Golf Now prices and the 2:00 Hot Deals make this the best course option in the area. It's a challenge to get into Vidanta so plan extra 30 minutes to get to the driving range.
O was willing to pay 700 pesos for a Canny
No caddy available could not fiend hole 6 & 7 Vega’s to change kart it was running out of battery mainly for looking for hole 6&7 but course need to be rethink its layout and better signs
Really nice good greens
