Nice
Course in great shape , greens are fast
Well worth the visit
I have played the Goosepond Lake Course many times over the years, and consider that to be one of the more pleasant courses to play (scenic and not too stressful). This is the first time I have played Plantation course, and I didn't expect much since it is the younger course and no lakes, but the deal on Golf Now "forced" me to take my kids to try the course. I didn't expect much. If anything, I expected a below average muni type course, and found a course that was much more interesting and greens that actually made you pay attention. First of all, I must say the staff was very courteous and even gave us some range balls for this being our first visit. We didn't think they would even have a range. The putting green is flat, but lets you know the representative speed on the course. One of my sons played from the tips, and the course made him use his driver most of the time. He can normally play with an iron or hybrid off the tee on most muni-type courses. Being the first time, I wish we had driven up to some of the landing areas, but we didn't want to be the "plumb bob slow." But, some creeks were just dry (no. 4) and other actually had water (no. 6), which I went after thinking it'd be dry, too. One of the doglegs (no. 16) was much more straight than shown on the card, and I ended up hitting the ball in the waste wood area where I thought would be the landing area. The ball ran more than average, and I was inside my comfort zone most of the time, so you may want to account for that. All par 5's are reachable, but a couple of them had water in front. One of the short par 4's (no. 7) is very reachable over the water. I can see some good scoring here, but you do need to respect the greens, or have a long putt coming back. And , one of the greens is large and elevated enough for you to think about the club selection. Some of the bunkers had sand depth that were uneven so you may want to walk near the ball to check. I sculled one sand shot and learned. Where I took the stance, the sand was deep and fluffy, but the ball sat on almost hardpan with a fractional inch of sand. I checked after that. I plan to make a trip back with more respect for the green, and see if I can have a better round.
One of my favorite!
Love this course. One of my favorite. A great outing with my son and a special friend.
Great Course
Picked up great value in tee time prices on Golf Now and made my first visit to this course. Fairly challenging course with a good selection of tees to select from. Tee boxes and fairways were in decent shape for early Spring in North Alabama. Greens were in good shape and fast. Makes me wonder what they will be like in Summer! hole placement was excellent. The course winds through the surrounding hills and very scenic. Staff was very friendly and professional at this course. Amenities were sparse. No pro shop and no restaurant. Can buy can drinks and golf balls but, that is about all. It is worth the trip to try this course or if you want a change it from its sister course (GP-Lake Course).
Good course
The course was well maintained with slick greens and tight fairways, also had a friendly staff
NICE Course
It is a nice semi-challenging course. The greens were in excellent condition for spring golf....a bit fast. A course that one could enjoy playing weekly.
Great Greens
True and very smooth greens though rather hard. Interesting course, in good condition and well maintained and serviced (and only early April), and extremely friendly staff.
Great course
Course was well taken care. Open fairways. Staff was very friendly as well as the players. One of the better courses I've played for the money. I look forward to being able to go back and play again.
best greens in North Alabama
Awesome course. Great layout. Some of the best greens i have played in north Alabama. Very true.
The course is set up well.
The course is moderately difficult. Several blind shots. It is winter so not as pretty as in the spring and summer.
Good course great value!
Great course layout nice fairways and great greens even for January. Beautiful scenery around the lake.
Hidden treasure
Great value for a beautiful course. Different tee boxes offer different challenges. Great conditions and great practice area. One of the better values in North Alabama
greens were in awesome condition!
Driver has to be long, but not accurate. Your short game has to be good to score good. Greens were the best I have ever played on in mid-November. I will be going back again.
Great Fall Golf
Course is in great condition. Greens roll true and are in great shape. Fairways overseeded so no dormant bermuda grass to lessen the experience. Would definitely play again
Very nice course
Tee boxes, fairways, and greens were in great shape. Love the layout, there is a lot of water but didn't seem to come into play often. Greens are fast take a few holes to get used too. 5 star experience for sure. Will be back for sure
Playing an old friend
I had not played at Goose Pond for at least 20 years. I had always enjoyed the layout as interesting with just enough challenge. The setting is quite pretty on the edge of Lake Guntersville.
Other than a couple of poor fairway traps, the course was in very good shape. I enjoyed the round and will return soon.
Unbelievable course!
Wonderful course! Second time playing, but it's an absolutely amazing course! Pace of play would have been better had I not got stuck behind 12 ladies ahead. Not the norm for the course.. Best club sandwich I have ever had, staff was amazing as always. Conditions: tranquil, beautiful, well maintained with no flaws. Greens roll well, breathtaking water views and elevations. You won't find better around Huntsville area.
Great hackers course
Excellent course for the hacker. Wide open fairways and great mini-verde greens that roll as true as you'll find in the area. Always fun playing this course as the pace of play is usually moving along pretty well.
Good layout
The best thing about this course was that the greens were rolling great. The rough was fairly thick in some places. Overall, I would recommend playing here mainly because of the greens.
Very nice and challenging
I enjoy playing the lake course . It is one of my favorites. The staff is friendly. The practice area is top notch. Carts are nice. The only thing that was a negative is the hamburger plate that is served in the deli is pricey & the burger patty is mostly made with soy product that made my son up chuck and my stomach very queezey.
