Used to be so nice to play here, now they just let it completely go! I’m sorry, but even at $34.00 dollars I feel that the value was still terrible!
Course has potential
For the price the course is exactly what you get. Unfortunately it was in pretty rough shape. Lots of ground under repair, looked like it hadn’t been mowed in a week plus.
The layout was nice and the course has potential but they need to invest in it. It has some great views and challenging holes but it is not very well kept.
Terrible conditions
The course was in terrible condition. Wouldn’t play again for free.
Hot and too hilly
Several fairways were roped off. So we had to walk from cart path to the balls. Way too hot and course was very hilly. Works play again in hot weather.
Poor conditions, worse pace of play
Tee boxes overgrown every hole. Fairways ok for summer but green side conditions very poor. Pace of play was absolutely ridiculous for this course. We played a 5 hour round as a twosome when this course should be less than 4 hours. Would not recommend especially for the price
Aerated greens
I was not made aware of the aereated greens. A partial refund or a golf voucher would be much appreciated, as I would certainly consider coming back from Colorado to play golf again.
Sincerely,
Allen Freyta
A gem that has turned to garbage
I have played at Az Grand (former Phantomn Horse) for over 35 years and I don’t believe I will ever play it again. First and most important was the course condition. When one is charged $75 for a round of golf in the dead of summer and 110 degrees you expect it to be in good shape. If I had paid $25-35 I would not have expected much due to the green fee being so affordable. It was one of the worst conditions tee to green I have ever experienced at any course in Az over the past 40 years of playing. There was not a single tee box that had been mowed in at least the past week and they were full of weeds. The fairways were burned out and barren of grass in most areas. The greens were punched (not posted on the site to give golfers a fair heads up) and they were equally bare of grass like the fairways.
What made all this worse was the pace of play. The front nine took over 2 1/2 hrs to play due to one group (4groups ahead of us) and the round in total was iver 5!hrs long. The staff tried to move the groups along but they were not successful in their efforts. Again, if this would have been a $25-35 round (which still would have been to much for the condition of the course) I would not write this post. It breaks my heart because I have played here at least 100 times and always enjoyed the course layout and conditions but doubt I will ever return.
Green conditions.
It would’ve been nice to know when I booked the tee time That’s The greens had just been aerated. They were very, very bumpy and hard to putt on. overall golf course, Fairways and tee boxes were not as good as should be expected on a course Of this caliber. I truly believe a voucher of some sort would be a good compensation as I would come back and play again.
Terrible
Course was in terrible condition. It is summer so understandable it’s not gonna be winter conditions but the course was dead. And charging $75 for this is criminal. On top of the guy who sends people out trying to rush. He yelled at our group on the tee and screamed gentleman trying to tell us to hit when the group in front of us was 200 yards away and still in the middle of the fairway. Trying to rush everyone out and almost getting us hit by balls on the first 2 holes bc of sending people out so close and with the first 2 holes being blind shots. This course needs to do better and take better care. If I could give 1 star I would. And the same guy demanding my tata to open his cooler and show him what’s inside of it. He had all water in it but still. They do this bc 4 drinks there costs $45. Absolutely a rip off. Save ur time and money and avoid.
Not as Grand as I thought…
Grass is a little sketchy. I know, AZ in the summer, but thought it would be better. Greens are extremely fast and hard to read.
I do like the lay out, and had fun…
What happened here!!
Wow! I know summers can be hard on courses, but I’ve played this one a lot in past summers. Big dry patches in the fairways and around the greens are awful. Now add water! Especially around the greens and you obviously end up with mud. They don’t extend the kindness of letting you know they aerated so we played on extremely rough greens, which should improve pretty soon. On top of that, the second hole is still under repair and is a pat three and has been for at least a year. All that being said $80 in the summertime is too much for what they’re giving you here.
Friendly Staff
Everyone was very welcoming! The course had tons of beautiful views!
Greens
The greens for all 18th holes were the best I played the last few time I play there!
Hot
One of my favorite valley tracks. Very good overall condition for summer.
Worst golf course in the Valley
Made the mistake of booking a tee time at Arizona Grand this morning. I had the feeling it might be in a questionable condition, the condition wasn't bad it was HORRIBLE!! This is the worst-conditioned course I have ever played in Arizona. I probably wouldn't have posted anything, if the staff had cared a little. Went into the pro shop and all I got was "It's not in the best condition". The staff over there couldn't care less that there were unhappy golfers. #neveragain #arizonagrandresort
Great Track in Terrible Condition
Great course layout and definitely a target golf course. The course is in the worst condition I have ever seen it in and I have played it for over 10 years. Tee boxes are ragged, fairways are spotty and dry, greens are extra firm and won't hold shots.
