great course

Fantastic golf course that was in great shape. great views throughout the course. Pace of play was slow. Just under 5 hours. Mentioned it to a ranger but he didn't do anything about it. Group in front of us was playing from tees they didn't belong on. I thought though it was a great course the price was a little extreme at 250.00. played The Boulders for 140.00 which is just as nice and played in 4 hours as a foursome. Nice clubhouse but they should put some real faucets in the locker rooms. Nearly impossible to wash hands with those airport faucets that keep shutting off on you. Overall it is probably the best couse yoy can play in the area.

I'll be back

The course was in great shape and the staff were great. It was cart-paths only, which is understandable this time of year. Great views of the valley on the back 9 especially. Very narrow and unforgiving fairways on most holes. We were able to tee-off an hour early, which was great since a storm rolled in just as we hit our approach shots on the 18th. Definitely recommended for a beautiful and challenging desert-course experience.

An icon in desert golf

36-hole Troon North is simply one of the best all-around golf experiences, from bag drop to 19th hole, among the 200 or so golf courses in the Valley of the Sun. The blend of desert scenery with tour-quality shot values, service and facilities are legendary among golfers visiting the Valley of the Sun.

Both the Pinnacle & Monument courses are practically equal in their aesthetics and challenge, and have some wider landing zones than other desert courses of their era, but I give the slightest edge to the Monument.

The Monument's front nine is fantastic (highlighted by the giant boulder monument in the 3rd fairway), but the back side takes it a step further, trudging up some higher ground and has two par 5s that head uphill to get you to a high vantage point. No. 11 and 13 are both stunning, and the boulder pile behind the 13th green is massive (though by that point, there are so many great mountain and boulder views you almost forget to soak all of it in).

But the downhill holes that reward you for the trudge on the early back nine holes are special. Architect Tom Weiskopf loves short par 4s and there are several on the course, none better than the 15th. At little more than 300 yards, not only is it an exciting hole to play, but the views once you reach the putting surface are among the course's best, being on some of the highest golfing ground in North Scottsdale.

Troon North invites golfers to walk either course with use of a rickshaw or by hoofing it with the bag over your shoulder, part of Troon Golf's "Troon Fit" program. It's a pretty tough walk through the desert, nearly 9 miles, though the Pinnacle is a little more suitable in that regard. You'll enjoy a day here no matter whether you walk or ride or play Pinnacle or Monument. This place is a slam dunk for high-roller golf in Scottsdale.

The tougher side

Narrower and packed with nasty surprises. Here's a tip, on the hole called "Gamble", don't. If you can only play one side of Troon North, play this one. My only complaint is that people don't fix their ball marks on the greens.

Concerns re poor yardage marking

This is a difficult course which is made moreso by the lack of GPS or clear yardage marking - this is compounded when there is cartpath only regulations.

AWESOME!!! Bring lots of balls, and a camera

Troon Monument is one of the top courses in the country. It is scenic holes one after the next with panoramic vistas and stories to tell on each. If you can afford it, play it. You will not be disappointed.
The greens are lightning fast, the waste areas are unforgiving, and even if you feel the urge to hunt for your ball, beware of the signs reminding you that this is carved out of the mountains and rattlesnakes can be easily found. On our trip, we saw a very small mountain lion stalking rabbits on the back of the 15th green. Very cool!!!
This is simply worth the trip, from anywhere in the country.

Beautiful golf afternoon

The only negative was the seasonal cart path only requirement that comes with the territory during overseeding time. The Course was in beautiful shape and the scenery and desert vistas were fantastic. Played a twilight rate and finished with a beautiful sunset. Memorable day.

Great Course

Our group really enjoyed playing the Monument course. Would have been excellent if it wasn't cart path only but we did know that beforehand.

All around spectacular...MUST play

I was looking forward to playing one of the top 100 courses in America, and though we didn't get to play the championship course (Pinnacle), the Monuments course did not disappoint. Absolutely gorgeous surroundings, with quail, roadrunners, and lizards running everywhere. Incredible scenery from almost every teebox, and ideal conditions. Smooth manicured fairways, quick, but receptive greens, and fair but from time to time challenging layout. Worth the drive, and every penny. Can't wait to go back and attack the Pinnacle! Bring your camera!

Picturesque gem that demands attention from the tee

Troon North Pinnacle is an excellent test of golf at virtually any time of the season. I played late in the summer (Sept 29th) when the course was almost at the turning point to get ready for the winter season (needing overseeding). However, the fairways were in excellent condition and the green ran true and smooth.

The Pinnacle course demands attention, particularly on the tee shots, since each hole is individually carved out of the desert with harsh conditions awaiting any ball that strays more than a few feet past rough. The landing areas can be generous but you should play from a set of tees that match your handicap. That will give you the best chance to keep your ball in play and hit your approach shot from a distance that allows you to hit the greens at least half the time.

I have a 8 handicap and played from the tips (Black) and found it to be very challenging on a couple of the long par 4's (#3 and #7) to get my ball in the "attack" zone. The same comment applies to the par 5's -- if you choose an appropriate set of tees then you will have a chance to "go for it". Otherwise you will be forced to layup due to the protection of the greens with some unseen hazzards.

The greens were large and medium-firm, allowing me to hit long approach shots with confidence that the ball would stay on the green. A few of the greens had "false fronts" or sections where even well struck balls would roll off the green -(#17 front right) - something I liked because it made you think about each approach shot rather than just wacking away mindlessly.

Pinnacle is a course that almost demands a "do-over". Your first round will introduce you to the course and give you a sense of where/where not to hit the ball. A second round will allow you to plan your attack better and really see how good your game is.

I thoroughly enjoyed my round at Troon North and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a premium golf experience in North Scottsdale.
