Palm Course - McCormick Ranch Photo submitted by tainge on 03/29/2013
Poor customer experience
Told we would have 30 minute delay due to frost. Turns ou we were delayed due to frost and a tournament. After more than an hour wait the last tournament group teed off and were on the first green. We got to the starter who then informed us that we would have to wait until the last 3 threesome of the tournament reached the 4 th tee. At this point we were ready to quit and approached the golf pro desk to find out what was going. We were tired of waiting, tired of the poor information and new wait times. They then said we were teeing off in five minutes. What a disaster in the customer experience.
Excellent course, fun challenge and good layout
The course was in good condition and even with a frost delay we were able to finish our round in just under 4.5 hours. Huge bonus on the par 4 15th hole that has a very challenging island green and you have to be carful not to overshoot the approach shot. Overall a great experience.
Tough Greens
Great course, greens are very undulating and break much more than the average valley course. Good fun!
Needs work for the money
Greens fast and in poor condition....my grandpa would have been very disappointed
Bring your best short game
Nice layout and good Mountain View’s. Mostly forgiving fairways but nasty green complexes. Super fast greens. Virtually no rough and tightly mowed. On one green where the hole was cut into a steep incline everyone in our group, which was mostly competent players, had their balls come to a stop on the green with chip shots only to begin rolling downhill off the green and through the non existent rough into the water. Maybe for an Open qualifier that’s ok…. Still, overall it’s worth checking out. Pace of play was excellent.
Great layout
Greens & fairways were in great shape. Course design and hole layout were very challenging, with some really nice views. Some holes were lined with very nice houses.
Pin placement on many holes was unfair. You couldn't make a putt even if you hit it perfect as the hole was on a side-slope. It seemed like it was set-up for pros.
Staff was very friendly & helpful. Facilities are fantastic - restaurant, range, putting & chipping greens were all above par. I would definitely play here again!
Terrible
Arrived at the course 20 minutes before our tee time only to get “you know you are up on the palm right now” from the bag drop attendant. Then rushed to the first tee feeling rushed, then wait a minute or two for the gentleman we were paired with. Then after about 4 holes we started to catch people and then eventually end up on the 7th or 8th hole with 4 groups on a tee box of a par 3. The Marshall then finally showed up to tell us to with go to the Pine front nine or the palm front 9 which we just played. To be fair they did have a frost delay but the course did seem overbooked.
Slow play
Was not informed that the course was cart path only until we teed off, subsequently the pace of play was slowed down and we were unable to complete the 18 holes that were paid for. One of the fairways was painted green because the grass was almost dead
Nice. Purse but very slow round 5.5 hours
T time was 12 30 and finished at 5:50. No Marshall’s to keep up pace of play
Hard to tell
It was a solid course to play but the conditions were so wet that it was hard to get a true gauge of how the course truly plays.
Not very accommodating
The staff was not very accommodating and close to being rude. It started to rain hard after four holes and we requested rain checks. The guys in the pro shop said that the course does not give rain checks and we were out $160. This is totally not fair and not common from my 50+ years of golf. We decided to keep playing. Course was in average shape for this time of the year.
