challenging hole Photo submitted by spectre1972 on 10/04/2012
This course was in great shape
Staff was very friendly and accomodating. Liked the terrain and variety of landscape. Course was challenging but fair. Greens were in excellent shape but a bit slow. Some holes were 'hard to find' as each nine is spread out in two different areas. Would play again in a heartbeat.
The grass was perfect
the course conditions, meaning the grass, was in terrific shape! They were redoing a couple of the tea boxes so we had to adjust there but no big deal. Nice that they are maintaining those tea boxes. Great course great views very good value with a golfnow purchase. Ventana Canyon Golf Course provides plenty of cups ice and water to help manage the heat.
Very picturesque
Played the mountain course "very scenic" a must play when in Tucson. The course was in excellent shape but some tee boxes were being aerated and the greens were just coming around from being aerated but still very playable.
Fun course with plenty
Really enjoyed the setting, wildlife, desert landscape and great design.
Must Play if in Tucson!
Played the Canyon course. Absolutely great course and a must play if you are in the Tucson area! Course conditions are fantastic and each hole is memorable. Definitely a replay the next time I am in the Tucson area.
Great Course
Great deal for 30$. Shotgun start went well, round went a little slow at 4 1/2 hours. Greens were cut down about 2 weeks ago, and made them slower than expected. Made the greens deceptive and tough to read. Would play there again for sure at this rate any day.
greens slow
they said they plugged the greens 10 days ago so they should have been cut lower the day I played. They were a little bumpy but were slow. otherwise the course was in great condition.
challenging but fair
This resort has 2 18 hole courses. I haven't played the mountain course for quite some time. I have never played the canyon course before today. It has always been in great shape, and today was no different. The greens had been vertical cut so the greens were real slow and some of the putts were bouncy. I loved this course and wish I could afford to play this course in the winter. I LOVED IT. It was a shotgun start wich I'm not a big fan of , but we never had to wait on someone in front of us. The scenery is awesome.
a super facility
Unfortunately, the greens had been "sand injected" and verticutted; making the putting very difficult to read. Other than that one fault, I will definitely return for additional rounds.
Great course with wonderful views
What a great course! Conditions were great, greens were in perfect condition. I always had a nice lie in the fairways. Wonderful layout, the best hole is #3. The Par 3 is 107 yards from the tips. Be straight off the tee and have the distance correct to avoid the canyon (see 1st photo). Plenty of wildlife like the bobcat I saw walk across the first green. Staff was very friendly and helpful.
Put this on top of the list in Tucson.
I will be back!
Mountain Course
One of my favorite courses. Very scenic and challenging. I played for $39 which I considered a GREAT value
Best of Tucson
Ventana Canyon and Mountain courses are my favorites in Tucson. Fairways and greens always in good shape. The staff is always helpful.
The scenic views are unbeatable as well.
Mtn course
Course was in terrible shape, greens were horrible, unable to putt, staff should've informed us if the shape of the greens! Ruined the only available day that we had to play
Impeccable course
From the moment you check in you realize you are not on an average golf course. Beginning with warming up on the driving range to the putting green you know you are on to something special. I feel the Mountain course is more scenic however the Canyon course has its own special characteristics as well. As far as difficulty, the Mountain course is more challenging in my humble opinion, however neither will disappoint you. Ventana Canyon is without a doubt one of the top three courses in all of Arizona and I say that without reservation. Give it a try and cultivate your own views as it will be worth your time.
Very Green
Course is in excellent shape [ Mountain Course ] , they will be aerating the course this week and had aerated the Canyon course last week. Always one of the best maintained courses in the Tucson area and highly recommend playing there,
Worth the Search
A very plush course. Fairways were very green and soft for this time of the year. Greens were being aerated so putting was next to impossible. The staff was great. As a first time player, you need to follow the directions given by the starter as the course wanders, even across busy streets. If you have never been there before, allow extra time to find the place. The signs are very discreet and don't be affraid to ask for dirrections.
beautiful course
Course was a beautiful chalenging layout and in great conditon. I highly recommend this course to those that enjoy a challenge.
DIRECTIONS/ SIGNAGE
" Take the 2nd entrance on the right into the hotel, located on Kolb Rd exactly 2 miles from Sunrise"
The above directions listed on Golf Now confirmations are incorrect , perhaps they meant "exactly one mile !"
Signage in front of Loew's Hotel is also terrible hard to find pro shop. Why is this such a problem,
Excellent course
This is an excellent course, set in one of the prettiest mountain areas of "Tucson" Arizona. The "Mountain" course is challenging & full of surprises. Get ready for 18 holes of "Absolute" fun ! You may even be fortunate enough to have a "Bobcat" join you, as we did. Take your camera. Unfortunately I didn't . :-(
MUST PLAY!!!
I cannot say enough great things about this course! We played the tips, and the views were nothing short of incredible! The staff was extremely courteous, the grounds were pristine, the greens had a very light dusting of sand, but rolled true and fairly quick. The course offer a fantastic challenge with forced carries, a couple blind shots, incredible elevation changes...all you could want and more!
