Brown Fairway. I think this is the 9th fairway but it is typical of all fairways. Photo submitted by sherpaboy on 02/12/2022

HK's review
The course was in decent shape, the greens rolled nicely. It can be tricky for high handicapers.
Terrible Condition
The tee boxes had not been mowed in days or perhaps weeks. At times, it was like teeing off from the rough. The greens were as inconsistent as I’ve seen in a long time. There were portions of the course that were marshy, and on the same holes, there were portions that were so dry you’re essentially hitting off dirt from the middle of the fairway.
No starter so the groupings went off at inconsistent intervals. No beer cart on the front 9. We decided to stop after 9 because the course was in such bad shape.
Gave it a try, still a mess
First time back in over a year. Thought I would give it a try based on some better recent reviews. Nothing has changed, except for lowered rates. Tee boxes not mowed, fairways bare, bunkers...what bunkers, shaggy greens. On a holiday, no beverage cart to be seen, no water on the course, group of hackers playing black tees ahead of our group backing everyone up, no marshal to be seen. Don't waste your money.
Great track but needs better maintenance
Love the course. Greens are in poor shape. Every fairway lie is crispy and in many cases like hitting off hardpan. Still worth playing for the value but it would be great to see it like it used to be.
Good fun. Still decent golf in San Diego!
This is a challenging course for me. It was $60 for the round which I personally don’t think was worth it but that’s on me for not booking earlier. It’s been a while since I’ve played here but the greens and fairways were great. Tee boxes were absolutely trashed but that was from a tournament. There were a couple of puddles along the cart path and near greens but only a few. Staff was awesome. Pro shop guy was super friendly and helpful. Oh and the carts were pretty good to. Maybe it was worth $60. I’d play this course over cottonwood, mission trails, or any of the million par-3 courses in SD any day of the week. Thanks for staying true Carlton!
Good Calue Public Course
Played this course for the first time and was pleasantly surprised with the course condition. The fairways were good, save for some occasional bare lies. It has 5 Tees on most par 4s. Tee mounds could use some work though. Bunkers are not in good condition, so avoid them like CoVid.
Overall good golf.
Bones of an amazing course
Playing this course you can see how nasty it was in their hay day. Currently you get plenty value for a still challenging fun course in solid condition.
