Nice Place
Nice place, great vistas. Friendly staff.
Course fairways role out, greens fast, greens role true, greens play smaller than look with sloped sides. Fairways are firm, bunkers in good shape, tee boxes firm but RH provides short tees.
Would play again.
Pricing is fair compared to others at this cost
Great track! Weekday pricing is easily worth the drive. Fairways and greens were very good. Staff was very good!
Amazing facility
Greens were not really receptive and grass was still growing lots of ground under repair but the course is very challenging and fun still very beautiful. I can’t fault the course though since they just redid it with new grass would like to return when the grass is fully grown in.
Loved the challenge
I loved the course layout ... challenging but fair.
Great course
Great course, fairways and greens in very good shape. Proshop staff, on course staff and outdoor staff were all very friendly. Range are was very cool with having range finders available. Only down fall was the very high winds(3 club wind at least) but no one can control the weather. I thought the overall experience was great!!
In Cart Information
The greeens maps for pin placement were incorrect on ~1/3 of the holes. I never knew if to believe the on screene yardage or placment. When I mentioned in the pro-shop that it looks like 1/3 the pin locations were from yesterday, the response of "yes that happens". The attitude tells me this is acceptable. I think not especially at this price!
Never Disappoints
Rams Hill continues to amaze me. I played in October but wanted to see how the course played in the winter with the new grass. It's awesome and a ton of fun. Playing firm and fast on the new dormant grass. While I prefer the conditions when the grass is growing, I like the contrast that the firm and fast conditions present. The greens remain some of the best I have ever played and man are they fast and true. The pro shop said the grass should be coming out of dormancy late this month. Already booked for March and will make regular trips in the summer when the price drops. Just wish I could play it more often.
Rams Hill Awesome
The course was great and worth the drive.
F&B not so good. We were seated in the dining room to order a quick bite and was never served. The waitress never came by to take our order and after 20 minutes we had to go. Tried to at least get a candy bar in the pro shop and no snacks. No beverage cart. For $200+ per golfer we expected better.
Needs more time to recover
As most know this course is in the middle of nowhere and deems itself a resort style destination with lodging packages etc. The course was pretty good but very tricky. Especially with the new fairways, greens and dormant Bermuda conditions. Everything was a tight lie and often times you’d find your ball in a collection area after putting from the wrong shelf of the green or missing your landing spot. . But again it’s just recovering from of a lot of changes. What couldn’t understand is why they would mow the dormant rough as tight as the greens but then again I’m not a greens keeper.
The layout is good with many challenging risk/reward situations but you’ll learn the first time out, a missed shot seems like 2x the penalty. And the greens are super tough if running fast. It was at 11 when we played.
The staff was very nice and the facility was great. Food was great for breakfast. The range was out of balls and they hadn’t set enough space for players to warm up which seemed odd.
Still we had a great time with great weather and were paired up with some good guys who came from SD and Indio (an hour away).
I think it’s a stretch to drive more than hour to pay this much. And, if you’re staying overnight, I’m not sure I’d want to pay this one course twice. We drove from Orange County which was 2.5 hours. The great news is that Golf pass got us a deal to play at 12:50 and they were super nice in letting us out at 11 so we could finish. It was a 5 hour round.
With so many courses an hour north in Palm Desert and the rates they are charging here,I’m just not seeing the value but maybe when they get it growing and easier to manage the golf course conditions, it will be a premier golf course. Still, Ithink they need more faculties and maybe even a second course to make Borrego Springs a true destination. I wish them luck.
Top 10 in CA
The layout is perfect. In order to attack a green, you must check GPS green indication first. Otherwise you will have too much fun.
Tom Fazio Disappointment!
This course had been getting rave reviews and decided to drive the 90 minutes from Palm Desert, CA.
Well….very disappointed! The fairways about 1/3 are sloped with giant 4
30-50’ sloping on one side sending ball into the rough and bunkers for a center fairway hit. They make PGA West Pete Dye Stadium like a crazy municipal track (actually ranked in top 10 difficult courses). The green are super hard no holding a high shot beyond 125 yards.
I am a 8 Handicap Index player and if you are in the mood for a Mickey Mouse course on steroids- go for it.
So disappointed that Fazio has his name attached and bet he too is disappointed.
The Pro Shop is great, restaurant great, and the special touch of free street tacos at the turn were outstanding.
Need ranger
Front 9 took 3 hours to play because of the group(s) ahead of us. Totally unacceptable and we were close to quitting. Back 9 was just 2 hours so the slow group(s) must have left.
Greens are very nice, fairways are okay, bunkers are inconsistent with type of sand used, but we like the layout.
Extremely disappointing
The course is an oasis in the desert. We did play there on a very windy day but it was mainly the fairways that we felt were unfair. The fairways were like hitting off asphalt and the ball ran forever but not usually in a good way. Middle of the fairway for the drive and the ball kept moving forever sideways till it found a bunker. Very difficult to get the ball to stay on the green even with a good approach. We had been told it was a great course so it was very disappointing and we won’t ever go back.
A fabulous course destroyed by wrong choices
I received a promotion by Ram’s Hill that the course received a new seeding to enhance the pleasure to play the course. Exactly the opposite happened with a new turf that is not only tough to play, but has made the soil so hard, that the ball becomes uncontrollable following the shapes of the course over 30, 50 or even more. Such a pity because I was a big fan of Ram’s Hill, but that in the future I will no more do the excursion to Borego Springs from the Coachella Valley.
Premier Experience
The round will be an excellent experience from the moment you leave your gear at the bag drop to the bite you eat after the round. The course is in excellent shape and every hole feels unique. 10/10 would play again.
Thanks so much for the incredible comments, the 5 star review and recommendation.
We hope to see you again very soon.

The new turf has destroyed the course
The new turf has made the course rock hard and the natural shaping of the course makes the ball uncontrollable and the game unfair. A ball running for more than 50 yards right or left is not golf but more of a gambling game. It is a real pity because I love the layout and views of the course but this time I did not enjoy playing Ram's Hill.
chrescht,
Thanks for coming out. I hope you will give the new turf a chance. It's less than a year old and will mature and soften over time. It's also winter when the grass isn't growing which adds to the firmness. Hopefully you will come back in the spring and experience the course when the grass is growing and continuing to mature.

Disapointing
Not sure what happened to the course. Conditions were fantastic in October and now in January all the fairways are like playing on concrete. there is no grass on the fairways.
i could live with the conditions if we weren’t playing top dollar for the round but value for money is not there right now. it’s too bad because the course layout is amazing.
Golfterriblebuplay,
Thanks for coming out. Remember that the new turf is bermudagrass which is a warm season grass. It will be dormant and not growing in December and January with the bermudagrass beginning to come out of dormancy and growing actively in mid February. Would love to have you come back in the spring and see the difference.

u000006439746,
I'm sorry to read that we disappointed you. We try very hard to create a wonderful experience for all of our guest. Please understand two things...first the bermudagrass is dormant and not growing in the cold winter months and two that the grass is less than a year old and will soften as the grass matures and thatch is created to give some cushion. Additionally when the grass comes out of dormancy in mid February and begins to actively grow, the fairways will both soften and slow down. I hope you will give us another chance.
