Awesome Views
Great course in awesome setting. Out of the way, but worth the drive.
Hidden treasure
Had never played here before....took a mini vacation at this resort...and it was fabulous. Very scenic, well maintained. We played two days in a row...and were basically the only ones out there. Booked a hot deal for $40/pp while everyone else was paying more than $100. Not clear how they can afford to maintain this beautiful course with no one playing on it..so my advice would be go play while you can! You'll be glad you Did!
Beautiful golf in the Sierras
My wife and I had a wonderful day of golf at The Dragon. Course was in exceptional condition and the weather was perfect. Staff was very friendly and we were able to go out a little early. We had a great time on this beautiful and challenging Sierra course.
1 of 5 courses
4 of us (60 somethings) spend 5-6 days in Graeagle every summer and play 5 -6 rounds of golf at various courses, To us, the Dragon is by far the most beautiful and challenging.
Plan on at least 4-10 strokes above your average.
Beautiful
While having played Nakoma's, "The Dragon", many times, it's always great to play, as each time and turn it changes like a chameleon, with beauty at every turn. That is why we play. The long 5 par's give the sloped valley's show many snow capped mountain peaks and views of sunsets that go on forever. Bring a few extra balls and your best game.
Very challenging
Course was in great shape, but is very challenging. Pace of play was pretty good for a Saturday. Staff was outstanding!!
Great golf course
One on the best golf courses in the reno area . Some what hard but fair . Great shape
Great Opening Day
Course was in excellent condition considering it was buried in snow 2 months ago!
Always a tough course to play, but what a view from every hole. Feather river was running hard, but the greens were holding. Looking forward to a return visit...
Great Course
This is a great golf course. Very wet in the morning but difficult and very fun!
Beautifull
greens were a little slow, and first time players, watch out, all my best shots were with my camera. Will go back.
Great course after some rough times
The Nakoma Dragon course in Clio, California is like something that you've never seen. The course is absoulutley spectacular. I played it the first day it was open for the 2016 golf season. (May the first). The course hit some hard times back it about '08 or '09 but the course has definetly recovered. The course had buetifuel holes and is a tough track with lots of elevation changes and plentiful amounts of hazards. The clubhouse is very nice and almost impossible to miss with the crazy design and the buetifuel exterior and interior. The staff was very helpful and told us some history about the course. Overall the course is great and reccomend if in the area.
Tricked-up golf course!
My son and I played this course on October 2 in wind, rain and a little snow -- some of the worst conditions I have experienced as a golfer. However, this did not detract from the experience as much as the course itself. There is a lot of elevation change and many sloping fairways on the course, but this is all manageable. What is not manageable are the greens! Most are so slanted and steep as to make putting almost impossible, and they were so hard and dry that even well-hit shots did not hold and simply bounced off into the surrounding rough. That being said, Mike, in the pro shop, was extremely accomodating and helpful during our round and I cannot commend him too highly. If we return at all to this course, it will be because of his actions, not the golf course itself.
Challenging Layout
Played with another couple that has been visiting the CA Sierras for 20+ years. Four of us seniors played the course from the forward tees and enjoyed the challenging holes. We had dinner after the round at Nakoma with a friend who is a resident there. The venue and menu were great; host Joe was attentive and made the experience delightful.
We will be up again. Love the courses in the area. My wife's favorite is the Dragon and she is 77.
This course will kick your butt
Always challenging, even more so with high winds...lots of cedar sees and pine needles on some greens.
Fun
Beautiful views. Very fast greens. Entertaining layout.
Absent minded
Coarse is very tough a bit over priced my only complaint was we were in a frost delay so u decided to order a breakfast sandwich when the unfriendly server/bartender took my order, now there were on me and my playing partner in the bar area, and he didn't order,I she asked sausage or bacon on your sandwich and I said sausage please well after about 20 mins to make this sandwich it finally arrived with bacon not sausage when I informed miss congeniality it was wrong she said what do u want a piece of sausage?? Not I'm sorry for the mistake
One tough Puppy
The setting is beautiful. If you haven't played this course before don't expect to score very well as there are several holes that require course knowledge and then a flawless shot. Severe sloping fairways, undulating greens, etc, A true test of golf. High handicap golfers shouldn't expect to score well.
SLOW play & Poor Course Management
I had high expectations to play the Dragon for the first time. I was very disappointed for many reasons.
1. Not greeted on arrival, asked for help with my bag, or given any info on where to check in. I had to ask everytime I needed to find something.
2. Check in was ok, she was very friendly, but reservation was not updated and was not told had to purchase range balls separate.
3. Range was mediocre at best with no chipping area.
4. Was told by the greater out front that "there is no Starter so you can go off as soon as you are ready". So after hitting a few balls, my buddy and I teed off.
5. We caught up to the group ahead on #2 and that's when we started waiting on every tee box, and all fairway shots.
6. When we made the turn after 9 and got to the 10th @2:40 after starting, there were 8 people waiting to tee off on 10. Apparently 2 foursomes stopped to get drinks and then jumped back in.
I went back into the Pro Shop (no staff outside or at the turn), and asked about options. We were told we could play the front 9 again, as it should be relatively open. It was not, and therefore went back in and got a 50% refund.
In summary the course management was poor to non-existent and heard from another golfer the average round can take between 5-6 hours.
I will not go back and know there are many other courses nearby that offer a premium experience for comparable rates.

I play here all the time and it is a 3 hour course. I would never expect to fly around on a Saturday though and if your not in a foursome than you will have to wait. Golf is intended to have 4 players in each group. The chipping area is just to the left of the driving range near the bocce courts FYI.
Dragon
Wow this place was great! Little wet first thing in the morning but did dry. The greens were very challenging. Loved it!
Great pics, we shared on Twitter @golfadvisor. Thanks
