Hallowed Grond
Phenomenal place... every golfer should play this course once in their life time....!! Just do it.... no regrets whatsoever...
Punched Greens - No Notice
Terrible! The course punched the greens the day before our round. No notice, no warnings, no apologizes.... absolutely shocking...
I had a client fly in from the East Coast for a golf trip, we scheduled 4+ months in advance... my client walked off the course after the 9th hole and they would even refund his round....!!
Save your $2k and play a course where the staff has the same etiquette you'd expect from a playing partner....
BTW, the back nine is as bland as a loaf of generic white bread...
September 11
I really liked the course, as did my husband. He's played now for over 30 years, but I'm new to golf and we both enjoyed the course & had a great time. One of my favorite features of the course is the layout. The layout allows for a more streamlined pace of play & continuity. I wasn't able to give the course 5 stars for condition, however this is due to drought conditions, out of their control. Would love to play there again next time we are in Monterey. (My husband voiced the same sentiment.)
Del Monte Muni
Course was in terrible condition ! Very poor value, was one of the most expensive courses we played n vacation and was the worst value by far ! Would expect more from the average muni course that has 70,000 rounds per year.
Pace of play was great, locals must know to avoid this track.
Screwed
Booked on Golf Now for what I thought was a good rate $69.00, only to find out that the fee for everyone else was $31.00. The fairways were dead on most of the back nine due to car show being held on site and no water being applied. The staff should have informed us about this condition and offered a reduced rate. Very unprofessional.
Tbone
The course is an olde gal but a great layout. They just punched and seeded fairways however the greens and bunkers are well kept. Play the tee markers according to your ability and you will enjoy your day. Because I played as a single I was able to play 2 balls the entire round. It was actually recommended by the starter. My wife was waiting for me outside the main building as I concluded hole 13 and decided to ride with me the rest of the round. This course staff and the Hyatt grounds made for a relaxing time.
Hope I can get back again.
I'll start off by saying that as soon as I walked off the 18th green, I wanted to get right back on the first tee. We finished the round in 4:30 and overall it was an amazing round/weekend.
Old Del Monte A True Gem Always
Old Del Monte is a true golf course with tons of History. The PGA tear it up as well they should, but I dare any amateur say they slayed this course without previous course knowledge! Lots of shapely holes make you stay to the right side of fairways to start the round, then holes that make you stay on the left side while not going to far left to finish the front nine. Stay below the hole! Love the Front nine. The back is wide open and right in front of you. Bombs away on the back no need to be too careful just hit it straight. Staying below hole on back premium as well; you must stay below the hole to score. Greens are tricky so short game a must out here or else. If you make it through the front ok you should light up the back. Greens can roll true at 11 or 12, or a bit bumpy with the same speed depending on the Poa. If the Poa is up, ball will not break as much. Go with line rather than speed in this case, but always be careful with speed. Ball rolls a lot out here. Love it! Especially love hole #14 in its original design and setting since the 1800's. Take time to look all around that hole as the wide open space is awesome.
Pebble Beach Corp?
I guess that's what makes the price so relatively high. My 4 some had high expectations and we were all disappointed. Compared to many other courses in the area, including Spyglass, Rancho Canada, Bayonet, Black Horse and Laguna Seca, it was a mundane course. The greens were fine and tricky, but be careful of errant shots from other golfers because of the peculiar layout on adjacent holes.
Beautiful day in Monterey
First time playing Del Monte. The course was challenging but fair. The staff was as friendly as I have met.
Tough, tough, tough
The front 9 is spectacular and made for picture taking. The back 9 felt like a mountain course. Some holes on the back 9 looked like Augusta and some looked like the best courses in Lake Tahoe. The condition was excellent.
All of that said, no way I would ever come back to play this course again. As pretty as that front 9 was, it simply wasn't fun to play overall. Brutal elevated greens on virtually every hole. I was surprised too because RTJ is one of my favorite course designers. Paying $400 for punishment is not my idea of a fine investment. Additionally, they charged me $80 for a cart that I shared with my wife (who did not play). Only when I was at the first tee I was told that it was cart-path only (not good). If you have an extra $500 go play Pebble. That is difficult too but at least you'll enjoy yourself.
Nice solid track for all abilities
Course is in good condition all around. Fairways are wide for novice hitters and greens are fast and undulating to challenge the advanced golfer. The sand in the bunkers was nice and soft making them predictable to get out of.
Staff was friendly all around. The cart girl even gave us the courtesy of letting us know when it was her last round so we good stock up on snacks. Only downside was that three of the par 3's were over 180 yds with one being 210 yds from the white tee's.
Del Monte
Overall conditions were above average considering water conservation efforts.
Small greens
Great course small greens but very fair, Greens in very good condition, moderately fast. Course itself in very good condition, not sure it is worth full price with cart over a hundred dollars. Would definitely play again for right price.
Excellent Golf Course
At just under 6500 yards this course is very playable to the average length hitter, but don't let the length fool you, the course puts a premium on ball striking and placement. The greens are small, fast and well bunkered, and the fairways are strategically tree lined. An enjoyable and challenging "must play" golf course for any level of player.
Overpriced
Not sure what makes this a >$100 course. Fast tricky greens. Flat course with limited ocean views. Houses line much of the course. Some extra long holes for women; for example, 200 yard par 3 is way too long for women.
Boing Boring Boring.
It's really boring course. Greens are really small and a little bit tricky . That's all. Overall, this course is good in condition, but I will never go there for $.
A classic parkland course in excellent playing condition.
This is a classic 19th Century parkland design in excellent playing condition with small, challenging greens. The bunkers are well-groomed with consistent high-quality sand. The course is a fair test of golf without any of the gimmicks found in many modern designs. Waste areas adjacent to the fairways and rough are rugged and not maintained during the current California drought, so tee shots that don't find the fairways or rough will make second shots very challenging. However, there is no driving range to warm up. Just a small chipping area and a putting green.
Great Course
Del Monte is in great shape. Lush tee boxes and fairways. Greens roll true and the bunkers are even nice and fluffy. Looking at the yardage on the scorecard, one who'd assume that this is a short course. That's not true. With well placed fairway bunkers, driver is not always the optimal play. Del Monte puts your course management skills to the test. The course is challenging, yet fair. I can't wait to go back and play again.
Nice Course, Close Quarters
A very nice course, friendly staff. A bit of a shooting gallery as the tees are very close to the greens and in some cases have the tee box leaving those on the preceding green in a slicers range or a shank away from trouble. An old course made to walk. Greens were in good condition as was the fairways. Not very long, but the breeze keeps you on your toes.
