The fairway was really awesome.
Everything was wonderful. Especially fairway was really good. But, carts are not allowed into the fairway due to the recent continuous rain.
Little disappointed but still memorable play
Very well kept course with superble dedign. However, didn’t get course layout info. The golf car doesn’t have GPS. Took many good pictures while laying. A memarble round of golf with nice weather.
Great experience at Quail Lodge
I'd feel more comfortable giving 4.5 stars, but it's definitely closer to 5 than to 4.
Staff was super friendly and great. Course is in terrific shape - fairways are great, greens were very soft, but pretty quick, traps were near perfect. Some of the holes were very memorable - I particularly liked both 4 and 5, an uphill par 4 with an elevated green and a long par 3 with water on the right.
The course is a moderately easy resort-style course that happens to be surrounded by beautiful scenery. Being in Carmel Valley, there's this tranquility on the golf course with mountains to one side and the ocean on the other. You can't see the ocean at all from the course though. I think the scenery is better than the actual course, but the golf layout is nice enough to still justify 5 stars. It has similar scenery to its neighbor, Carmel Valley Ranch, and I think this is the better course.
Only other downside is that the range is only about 200 yards. There weren't any irons only signs, but I certainly didn't feel comfortable taking driver there.
Looking forward to returning.
Best Staff in Northern California
Quail is always a great course with superb conditions. Greens are spacious with nothing too drastic regarding undulations. They were rolling super fast today. Well struck balls would hold but anything coming out of the rough would run like crazy.
Fairways are about as close to perfect as you'll get. Fairways are also pretty wide making it easy to rack up the FIR stat. It also helps pace of play. Tee boxes are level, lush and divot free. Sand traps have excellent sand in them.
Course was packed today and was cart path only making the POP slower than normal.
Track is slightly above average with top notch conditions all around. The restaurant
/bar has outdoor seating that looks onto the driving range and 9th green. A local secret is the Thursday night prime rib! Staff at the resort and course are always super friendly.
Course is 90% flat so it's easy to walk as most transfers are pretty short.
If I had a complaint it would be the need for more restrooms on the course and a beverage/snack cart.
Quail Lodge Golf Course
This is a great golf course. Some of the holes remind me of playing in Guam. Lots of trees, plush fairways and difficult greens.
If you are in the Monterey area I would definitely play this course if you can afford it.
Mr c
The course was in excellent shape. No weaknesses in course conditions. I played three other people on a saturday afternoon pace of play was good need not have to wait on very many shoots. I was a little surprised that it took us a little over 4 hours to play. The course was a little more difficult than I though I would be judging from yardage 6,100 yards. Front nine had sheer oar 3 that were over 190 yards. The cost $95 for a after 2pm round seemed expensive. I will probably play this course in the future but maybe only once or twice a year because of cost.
Solid course overshadowed by the great staff
This is a great resort style course that is well manicured tee to green. Fairways are fairly wide with most challenges coming from strategically placed fairway bunkers and trees in the middle that you have to drive over. As nice as the course is, the staff steal the show. The staff friendliness is absolutely over the top fantastic!!
Some additional tidbits about the course itself. Sand is the best you'll find anywhere. Greens were in excellent shape and rolled smooth. Greens were fairly flat with not much challenge (go to Blackhorse/Bayonet for that). There are five par 3's on the course. The first three play pretty long (175-200) .
Gorgeous course
Went out as a single and was impressed with the friendliness of the staff immediately. The course was in great shape and the layout was challenging but fair. Will definitely return with friends.
Resort golf at its finest near the Monterey Pennisula
Most people when they get off the plane immediately head to the Monterey Pennisula to play Pebble and Spyglass hill, and poppy hills. I was smart to veere of to Carmel California and play a few courses. The major redesign in 2015 included a new dining area, a nine hole putting course, and course design changes. The course and resort is very buetifuel with the buetifuel ponds and nice views of the hillside on four and as you come back down to the par 3 fifth with the buetifuel ponds. The practice facilities are magnificent. The new dining on the porch is also very nice. The clubhouse is very nice after the makeover. To throw the whole vacation together eat at Edgar's restraint as well as a stay and play at the Quail Lodge Resort.
Spectacular
My husband & I had the pleasure of playing this beautiful course last week.
Everything about the course was immaculate and it was very playable for both of us - kudos to the ground crew for a job well done & for their attention to detail. Also, the pace of play was perfect!
The friendliness from Tommy in the pro shop to Danny & Travis on the greens crew was unsurpassed & much appreciated by these guests - we will definitely be back!!
Cannot recommend it enough!
Good
I liked it because it had all sorts of stuff like a pool, gym, and a lot more the course was pretty nice but I liked it a lot
A favorite on the Monterey Peninsula
I never seem to score well at Quail Lodge, despite its tips only extending to 6,464 yards. But those higher-than-expected scores don't deter my appreciation of the newly renovated layout refreshed by SoCal architect Todd Echenrode. It's one of my favorite plays on the peninsula.
The only critical point would be the lack of variety in the par 3s. Almost all of them require long irons and hybrids, even from more forward tees. A nice 140- to 150-yard par 3 would be a great change of pace.
Overall, the course conditions were excellent. We played in two mega downpours and the course drained quickly.
The variety of holes and shot-making required are only found in old-school classics like this one. You won't be disappointed.
Dining at Edgar's in the clubhouse will complete a grand day.
