View from 11th. Tee The Crossings @ Carlsbad Photo submitted by boldsirbrian on 11/27/2012
Very challenging
I am glad the starter asked my handicap. I told him I was a 16 and he suggested I play the white tees at a little over 6000 yards and he was right on. We were lucky that a local golfer was in our foursome. He was an awesome guide to the challenges on the various holes.
Dramatic layout
As a first time player I was excited to give this course a try. I live in the Bay area and was visiting my son and family. Wow,did they use the landscape well !!! This course goes on and on and on. Interesting elevation changes with challenging tee shots and club selections. Hugh greens that you need to manage your approach shots in order to avoid 80+ foot putts. Pace of play on the back was bad. I would definitely play again.
Good course but slow greens
We had a real good time playing The Crossings. The course is not overly challenging (even from the tips @ 6800 yds) but challenging enough for someone who only gets out once every 2 months or so.
Tee to green the course was in great shape. I just wish the greens weren't as slow. It might have been because we teed off at 7 AM and the course hadn't dried out yet. For the price I'd definitely play it again.
Nice, but beware of greens with "goofy golf" like elevations.
Nice, but beware of greens with "goofy golf" like elevations. Lots of target golf.
good service, well maintained, very scenic and challenging.
Definitely have more staffs working than most other courses,
very good service, fairways and greens are excellent, cooler
than inland courses. Very scenic from every hole.
Two Different Nines......
Front and back nine totally different. Fairways have lots of unfilled divots and greens unrepaired ball marks. Very bumpy. Tee boxes need to be leveled and mowed.Need a cart to play as the distance from green to the next tee is a "country mile". Also has "sizzling power lines" GPS on the cart was very helpful. Nice driving range and practice putting green.
Great layout for a public course but noise was a definite setback.
I liked this course a lot less than my playing partners. Great layout for a municipal/public course but one thing I love about golf is the peace and quiet and you got none of that here! Between the overhead electrical lines that buzzed and crackled, the screaming kids at LEGOLAND next door, the constant traffic noise and the many, many jet aircraft from neighboring Palomar Airport, I was off my game and unhappy. Had another tee time booked later in the week and cancelled it. Would not play it again. Too bad because it was a good course otherwise.
Must play course.
Course in better than average condition. Interesting layout with some blind tee shots. Fun round with great views. Play could have been faster. We waited on most shots and finished in 5 hours.
Fun elevation changes, great weather. Pace of play awful
Took almost 5 1/2 hours to play and we were not the slow ones. Fun elevation changes, great weather. However many greens had "donuts" around holes making putting difficult. Fairways needed watering.
Overall disappointing
This course is very challenging and great features.
I have got very very fun. Good course !!! I want to recommend others to play here.
good course, challenging setup.
front and back nines are different which makes the course a challenge to play. well maintained and staff friendly. The only issue is the pace of play. They book close together and have a lot of vacationers. Look to play 41/2 - 5 hours.
Tough greens and pretty well protected too. Nice elevation changes.
Tough greens and pretty well protected too. Nice elevation changes. The carts came w/ a GPS course map and was grear to see the course on some of the blind shots a few holes had. Overall a great course and value.
Beautiful views, variety of holes
This course is spread out over 300 acres so it is forbidden to walk. However if you walked, it would be a 6 hour round! The course is very hilly with great views of the area and a beautiful fountain on one hole that deserves a picture! The course is fairly generous but one little slice or hook too far puts you in the "blue stake" area which means environmentally sensitive flora so you can't even go in and find your ball (but we did and found everyone else's ball just not ours) you must take a drop like a red stake. The greens are a little slow and there penty of traps to catch a wayward shot. The guys we played with probably lost 10 balls each but the were wild off the tee. This course cannot be played quickly because of the distance between greens and tees but it is visually stunning and with five tee choices, anyone can play. You should play here, it is beautiful and nicely maintained.
Nice course, rude rangers.
This is a very nice course, great scenery with some challenging holes. We had a late tee-off on a Sunday, playing with a mixed foursome of experienced and new golfers so took our time and let a couple of foursomes play through.
We eventually were the last ones on the course, and as soon as it hit 7pm, an older course-ranger / marshal basically tailed us the entire time, almost if to say "hurry up, I can't leave until you do". He'd watch us tee-off, drive away, and circle around. It was rather annoying considering he tailed us for about 4 holes.
I can understand it if we were kids in our early 20s, hopping about to rap music smashing golf carts into Audi's, but we're early 30s, professionals, and taxpayers of Carlsbad.
For the amount of money it costs to play here, this is unacceptable. It's a public course not Augusta.
The lot attendants, bar staff and pro-shop staff were friendly and professional, the marshals on the other hand need a refresher on customer service.
Great Course, very challenging!! Great Views
I love the views at this course, every hole has a great feature.. I really enjoy playing this course now that they fixed the putt putt golf greens.. I recommend if your looking for a great value course with a challenging layout!!
BEAUTIFUL COURSE RATHER SLOW PLAY
This is our second time playing and enjoy the track. It is great condition and is also very busy course. Slow play was a problem but the on course staff advised us the group ahead was talked to and the pace of play picked up. would definately play there again.
Loved the challenge. Especially the back 9
Golf now pricing made this a good value.. Well maintained and great staff. Would play again.
Would Love to Play This Course Again
This course has many elevation changes and you have to play your shots to the greens in the proper areas to avoid 3 putts.
It's a beatiful course to play and it's agreat value for this area.
This course is very challenging for all levels of players.
My wife and I played this course and we enjoyed the course very much. The greens and fairways were in excellent conditions, the staff was super friendly, the views were magnificent.
I really enjoyed playing at The Crossing at Carlsbad. The coarse is very well maintained, varied, and challenging, but playable at all levels.
I really enjoyed playing at The Crossing at Carlsbad. The coarse is very well maintained, varied, and challenging, but playable for all level of players. The placement of the tee boxes were beautiful-the views are awesome. While the tee shots over the canyons look very difficult, I found I could reach the fairway without a problem. I would definately recommend the coarse to a friend.
