Desert Golf
Played Desert Willow for the first time and enjoyed the course. The good; nice course layout, wide fairways and the right mix of bunkers and water hazards and slope. Friendly staff.
The bad; overbooked tee times and too many late arrivals that pushed back tee times and jammed up the pace of play with 2-3 groups waiting on some holes. This is frustrating when it's 95 degrees and you're waiting on every hole.
My two cents, would play again but I expect better tee time management.
Not bad.
Consider the time of year, this course is pretty good. They stopped watering about a week ago and the fairways were a little dry but still playable. Definitely will play this one again.
Course in rough condition, lots of aeration i
Not nearly as nice as the Mountain View sister course! Nice layout, rolling terrain, lots of bunkers but many of them are a waste of sand, not in play. A lot of aeration I’m stressed areas, greens slow and bumpy
Great conditions
Mountain View was in great shape. Love always playing at Desert Willow. Highly recommend the facility.
Course in horrible condition plus major renovations
Was very excited to play this course today but major let down. The Players course is in horrendous condition with burnt grass everywhere , plus they just punched the fairways, and 2 of the holes were literally unplayable due to tractors and greenkeepers working. This course should be closed for all the reasons above. There plenty other top courses in great shape for less money.
Very nice course to play, the course is in very good condition, the carts are very comfortable. Good value for the money.
Great Course
Great staff and restaurant.
Played in 3.5 hours.
DW Mountain View
Rode the Purple tees (6507/71.2/128) in slightly less than 3H as a single on a GN Hot Deal mid day. The weather was sunny, breezy and around 110.
The Bermuda tees were mostly lush but almost all had bare spots mixed in. Level with few divots.
The Bermuda fairways are mostly lush and firm with some bare spots.
Same for the Bermuda rough, which is mowed low and not overly penal.
The sand traps were decently maintained with good quality sand. However, both greenside traps I sampled were thinner than you would prefer.
The Bermuda greens were poor. Most have bare areas and they pitted slow and bumpy. Best attribute was that they held irons well.
Excellent customer service on every visit here. Nice GPS on the carts. Plenty of ice/water stations on the course. No drink cart out in the summer. Nice all grass driving range with a good chipping area & practice green. Course is in really mediocre shape for this course. Usually much better, especially the greens. Would only play on a severely discounted green fee.
Firecliff
Rode the Purple tees (6676/72.1/136) in 3H, 20M mid day on a GN Hot Deal. Paired with Peter, fun guy to play with. The weather was clear, fairly calm and around 115.
Playing conditions were a real mixed bag. I suspect milder than usual May/June temps followed by a scorching July has not been optimal for the Bermuda to come back fully everywhere? The coverage is sketchy.
Bermuda tees were dissapointing. Areas were lush, other areas were hardpan. Level with few divots.
Same for the Bermuda fairways. 85% lush, with 15% areas where the winter rye has burned off and the Bermuda has not taken over.
The Bermuda rough was a higher version of the fairways with many hardpan areas. Good POP rough, not overly penal.
The waste bunkers were firm and not as well maintained as the greenside traps. The greenside traps had good quality sand and were very nicely maintained.
The Bermuda greens putted medium slow bordering on slow. More like putting on the collar or through the fringe. Bumpy and mostly firm, but they held iron well.
Customer Service always excellent here from when you drop your clubs off out front to when you pick them up out front. No rrink cart today. Good GPS on carts. Plenty of ice/water stations on the course. The all grass driving range is included and is excellent. Nice practice chipping area. Normally highly recommended, one of my favorite courses in the Palm Springs area. However, the current conditions are very substandard for this course and only warrant a substantially discounted green fee.
