Kinder and gentler Pete Dye
We enjoyed the course very much. It has some of Pete Dye's trademark fetures (elevated greens with surrounding traps, railroad ties framing water hazards, etc.) but is not as "tricky" as many of Dye's courses are. The course was in excellent shape and greens were fast and true. We would definitely play this course again on a future trip.
In good shape
Our foursome played the course in a little over 4 hours, finishing just before 5:30. Good pace and tempo. We were neither held up or pushed by other groups.
The course is in great shape and a pleasure to play.
The staff is friendly and helpful.
Everything here is as it should be. There are no surprises. I will be back for more.
Slow Play...
Love the course, unfortunately it took us 2:45 to play the front 9. Had four groups on a hole on multiple holes. Definitely needed better marshalling as we saw a few holes ahead of us with no groups on them. Otherwise course is typically one of my go to courses when I plan my trips to the desert.
The Westin Rancho Mirage - Pete Dye Course
The course was in great shape from tees boxes to greens. The greens ran true and were just right speed wide. The course has some really challenging holes and many have water features that are in play. I will be returning. The only drawback was that I wanted to use cash to pay for my reservation and the Pro Shop only takes credit cards since Covid. Covid is over and I think this policy should be changed.
Fine Course if you get a deal
Greens a bit slow but consistent. Fairways in very good shape. Tee boxes quite beat up. Rough not good at all with lots and lots of bare dirt. Bunkers were okay for the most part but some fairway bunkers need some maintenance. Pace was slow but okay. No Marshalls in sight all day. Overall a decent course to play and considering what the prices are in the area now, if you can get it for $100 or less, it is worth playing.
One and Done
2 guests from out of town plus a 4th assigned on the source morning of.
3 or 4 holes in, the "overseer" of gameplay informed us that we were playing to slow. (Age range all 50+ playing at 8:40AM.) We saw our group was not playing their best and had already let one party play through, however we were told not to play the hole if we were hitting 2 over. He then proceeded to watch and follow our entire play really rattling our group and ruining the entire experience. one of our members had been staying at the property and had easily dropped over $2500 for the weekend and was extremely livid. We confronted the guy a few holes later and he didn't back down, he just dug in his heels. One and done. DO NOT recommend. Their concern is not the betterment of the experience for their guests and have no interest in ensuring a successful round with people that were more than accommodating. Even for $165 a pop. The guy was a supreme *** and should be fired for "doing his job".
Challenging but fun
Course was in very good condition and pretty surroundings.
The greens were elevated and that made it difficult unless you dropped the ball right on the flag.
I plan to try it again and see how it goes.
Well organized start with golf carts lined up with tee times and reasonably quick round
Seeing the carts lined up with tee time starts looked like tournament play, but with all the people waiting to tee off, it organized a large group quickly. The course was manicured with holes you could see from the tee box so you knew where to aim. Putting greens were fair and rolled nicely.
Very forgiving, except for the water hazards
Nice course greens were great. People were very friendly nice views.
Better now
Now that Troon is no longer managing the course, it appears to be better run and in better shape. Kudos to JCGolf for saving this property.
Enjoyed chatting with the ladies in the pro shop, as well as the guys out by the starting area and by the bag drop - everyone was very personable. I see the price has gone up a bit, but thought it was fair for Palm Springs in the winter. I think I'll come back later this year and see if it is still in fine shape.
Overated for the price
The course was in very poor condition. Fairways had a very skimpy overseed. Greens were very good but so hard you couldn't hold a sand wedge. Off the fairways was basically nothing but dirt. A fair price might be around $50 not $150. People in the snack bar were rude. The starter was very polite and helpful. These were the worse conditions I've ever played in the desert during my 30 years of playing in the desert/
I will not be back!
