Above-average short-course golf
Short courses can be tricky to get right. Beau Welling did a really good job with Little Sandy, which exhibits tremendous variety for a course that is easy to play with only three or four clubs. A nice set of greens awaits. Bring extra balls, though, because more water comes into play than you might expect.
Welling reimagines Dye and succeeds
Architect Beau Welling renovated this 1972 Pete Dye design over a period of about 18 months preceding its spring 2025 reopening. While one can argue the extent to which Welling stayed true to Dye’s design principles and aesthetics, on its merits, the course is compact, sporty and great fun to play. It’ll force driver out of. Some golfers’ hands, but there are opportunities to score here, too, especially for those who aren’t afraid to shape the ball a bit.
Scenic marshside golf with a beach interlude
This course, though technically the private domain of The Amelia Island Club, can sometimes be accessed by guests of the Omni Amelia Island resort nearby. It’s not a particularly long course; it holds your attention with an impressive mix of marshside holes on both nines, plus two somewhat wedged-in but nevertheless scenic back-to-back par 3s on the back that run alongside the Atlantic Ocean. The mix of palms and live oaks gives the place a very charming, peaceful feel.
Charming exec par 3 course
We live locally and wanted to play in our staycation anniversary. Layout was well done. Rental clubs included in price, with replays and 18 hole putting. Only comments was price $$$..
Amazing
It is a bit pricey for about 1hr of chip n putt but course was immaculate. I didn’t see a blemish on the greens.
Great pitch and putt
Really enjoyed this place. Staff was super friendly. They loaned us carry bags. They have an 18 hole putting green which was super nice. The greens on the course were excellent. Great condition and lots of variety. Had such a good time that I went back for a replay a few hours later.
Early morning
Quick pace of play, greens are nice but difficult, tee shots are fun
Little Sandy was a lot of fun. We played early and had the course to ourselves.
It is a bit pricey. Would play more often if they offered a locals discount.
Very nice layout
I had no idea the course was closing for several months the day after I played. I feel a discount would have been appropriate based on the condition of the fairways, there literally was no grass on any of the fairways. However, the greens were in great condition. Beautiful course, love to play it again after it reopens. The pro shop staff was very friendly and professional. Great golf course, a voucher towards a future round should have been offered!
Going, going, gone for a 9 months
This course is closing Feb 25th for resurfacing. Not sure if any re-design is happening. We got a great rate but they were all ready killing the fairway grass, still was decent to play off though. Should be excellent when it opens next November or so.
Course closing for one year for entire redo.
Conditions were worst ever because of immediate closing. They should NEVER have priced it at $65 plus taxes. Total crap!
Course will apparently close in March for major renovations. Paid 50 Fairways are essentially wet clay. Greens have many unrepaired ball marks. Front nine pace was ok. Came to complete stop at ten. Skipped ahead to 14. Didn’t see anyone from that point on. No ranger. I suppose the March 10 million dollar renovation is finally going to get underway. As I understand Omnis justification for closing ocean links 18 was to put money into oak marsh. After several years following that closure it’s finally going to happen I wouldn’t think anyone who has played oak marsh would want to play it again until it reopens
Course Under Repair - Still worth playing
The course is currently being prepped for a huge renovation starting in March 2024, that being said it was still very playable and the greens were in great shape. The views are awesome on this course and do yourself a favor and on the last par on the back 9 visit the gold tees to at least check out the view if not play the tee, it was playing 167 or so when I was there. Can’t wait to see the renovations! Staff is great as well!
