Saddlebrook Resort
About Saddlebrook Resort
Since 1981, Saddlebrook Resort has been a go-to-destination for golfers, located just 30 miles north of Tampa International Airport. The resort's two original Arnold Palmer designs are being redesigned in 2025 into a 27-hole combination by Rees Jones. This entirely new playing experience will pair with a new 13-acre practice facility, home to a two-sided range, and golf school to engage golfers. A world-class tennis facility is another major attraction of this resort. A sweeping $92 million transformation will reimagine the 451-room resort from the ground up – positioning it among the nation’s premier leisure and sports resorts.Facts

So much has changed.
Recently played Saddlebrook, the Saddle side and was unusually disappointed. I remember pre covid playing at it- was a luxury (no outside beverages, valet, plush greens and landscaping, truly a nice course considering) played yesterday 8-13 and will probably not be back for some time. The overall scenery just wasn’t what I remembered. Apparently there is a new owner…and in my opinion, there needs to be another new owner. Greens were not great, grass was half dead, landscaping looked like it hadn’t been touched in months. 3 holes that I can remember there was a flag posted in the middle of the fairway with grass trimmed way down to mimic a green with a hole in the middle, I was SHOCKED. If a green is under repair that’s one thing, this looked like it was the new norm for some previous months and you had to somehow maintain your score while putting on fairway grass. Bunkers were weeded, tee boxes had seen better days. In my best overall conclusion it looked as if it was headed for a course that you rough up and learn to play on, not one you go to when your game is top notch like it used to be. I wouldn’t pay over $30 to go there again.
Temporary greens were disappointing
There were 3 temporary greens that we had to play- which essentially made the short game on those holes useless. Rest of course was in great shape- looking forward to coming back soon!
4.5 stars, Will be back
Living in this area I don’t know how I never played this course but I will be back to make up for it
Nice place
Great value but a little wet but very well maintained. My wife and I played and other than a couple singles that had to play through us it was good.
I would go back.
Disappointed
First time here and will never play here again. Impossible trying to find the course inside the resort, no signs anywhere. You leave your clubs at resort entrance and walk 10 minutes through pool area to get to the clubhouse, it was bizarre. Get there early, you will need the extra time. The course was a mess, it looked like the grass wasn’t cut for a month then they mowed it. Clumps of grass clippings everywhere. Tee boxes and greens are totally neglected. The course has a nice layout but needs some TLC. Green fees were not expensive and the staff was great, but this was my first and last visit.
A Little Disappointed
First the guy told us the greens were in great shape and they just cut for smooth roll. This was not the case. The greens were sandy and okay. Wish someone told us that not 1 but 3 holes were in the middle of the fairway. Made it difficult to judge distance or even what we were doing. It was terrible. They have their sprinklers watering sidewalks and bunker. Misses the greens entirely. Grass was all over the fairways after they cut. If it wasnt for the coupon of $37 this would have been much lower rating. I just dont know why no one mentioned specific holes the green is in the fairway. Other than that enjoy the layout. Could use better amenities because the first 9 holes no cart person or water anywhere. Would play again. It is solid course just disappointing building it up to a friend to be let down.
Great course and great value late in day
4oclock tee time course was wide open and they said i was last tee time so i zipped around. course was a little brown but so plush, but to be expected with heat. Course was pure greens were rolling and it was a fun fair test. Overall worth it to play and see
Needs Work
I’ve been playing this course the better part of 20 years and this is by far the worst shape I’ve ever seen this course in. Weeds all over the fairways, tee boxes chewed up, greens with large areas of dead grass/replaced grass. Also the landscaping around the course that was pristine in the past has just been neglected. Golf staff was great as always. BOTH bev carts were broken down on the course and it sounded like they had been there for a couple days. Lastly, they only had one valet working so at the end of our round we had to wait quite a bit to get our car. Definitely won’t rush back until I hear changes have been made.
Don’t bother!!
I played the Saddlebrook course for the first time. The green we’re about a 7 on stint and 2 or 3 temp greens. The whole course was soggy and bunkers were horrible. I recommend going elsewhere.
Palmer course
Excellent layout, great challenge and still in good condition.
STAY AWAY
Entered through the community gates and it took 15 minutes to find the golf parking lot…absolutely no directional signs.
From the parking lot, you have to walk 5-10 minutes to the pro shop. Then you have to get a cart and go back for your clubs.
We played the Palmer Courses. It was horrible. At 10:30 AM, there were massive (and I mean massive) grass clippings EVERYWHERE
Again, little to no direction signs. The greens, fairways & tee boxes were equally disgusting.
I highly advise to everyone to NEVER play this dogtrack
good course great shape....recently punched greens almost fully recovered
Really nice course!
Me and a buddy played the Palmer course yesterday and it was in really good shape, nice layout with tee times spread out enough we had a nice pace of play. Would definitely recommend you check it out if you’re in the area!
