165 yards out Photo submitted by randallestephens on 12/29/2019
Greens in rough shape
Greens were punched and sanded last week and were in better shape than yesterday. Looked like the greens mower was set too low and every one was scalped over the entire green. Putting was a challenge for 18 holes.
Otherwise we enjoyed the course and especially the back 9. We play this course and The Links every time we come down 3x year.
KIND OF SAD
I have always enjoyed this course in the past. However, the greens are in terrible shape and the bunkers are completely washed out. Clearly there has been a lot of rain but the course needs serious maintenance and attention. It should be better.
Do not play here until they get their act together
I played there yesterday after playing there probably 25 times previously. This was worse than a municipal course. All traps were washed out. Greens were browned out, and not been rolled or mowed. They were very bumpy. There was no one at the staging area to unload our clubs. There was no starter. Many of the tee boxes were full of weeds. The course, was soaking wet, yet a huge sprinkler head on the 18th fairway was going the whole time we played the hole. After the round, I went to the clubhouse told the staff person that I normally don’t complain and told him all of the above. Rather than give us a credit on a future green fee, his response was simply “I’m sorry.”
Greens are trash
Played here a few times and never seen the greens in such terrible condition
Wow
This course had everything. Diseased greens that hadn’t been mowed and you could hardly putt on, mud in every bunker, beat up tee boxes, even a dead possum in the cart path on #14. The fact that they charge a $100 green fee in the off season is almost criminal. I can’t believe this is a resort course. They would have to pay us to come back.
You should have told us.
The course was damaged by a storm two days earlier. No warning. Traps were GUR and the course was cart path only.
Soggy and poor greens
Don’t know what was going on with the greens but they were in terrible shape not what I would have expected from such a highly recommended course
Just a special occasion to play, want to play golf much more but can't afford to play in the Destin area due to high rates. It's to bad locals can't get a better deal!
Below average resort golf
For as nice of a resort that sandestin is, the baytowne golf course is on the struggle bus.
Goat ranch
The absolute worst golf course I have ever played ! If you read this review and still play…. You’re an idiot. The bag drop guys said that the course is unplayable because of the greens. I called and booked tee times, the whoever in the pro shop did not say anything about how poor the conditions were. After nine holes of putting on gravel, we called it quits.
I asked for a full or partial refund……the whoever in the pro shop said well since you played nine there will be no refund because you should have quit earlier?????? You can’ make this crap up. Emerald Bay, Regatta Bay and Indian Bayou are a thousand times better and cheaper! DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nice and plush easy to play
Tee boxes were great fairways great easy to spot trouble off tees I enjoyed the day with my son
Beautiful course. Greens were in pretty good shape.
Good layout in poor condition
Greens, in fairness recently sanded, are very poor. They were poor in the spring when I played it and at that time had not been sanded or aerified. Condition of bunkers is terrible. Fairways & roughs are OK. I’ve played here a couple of times a year for about 20 years, and this is the worst condition I’ve played it in, especially for late summer. Going elsewhere from now on.
Rough greens
The staff was courteous. The course was in pretty good shape but the greens were not the best. Overall it was a good outing.
Baytown Never Disappoints
Yeah the greens were hairy after being punched but always a great place to play.
Solid option in the Destin / Panama City area!
Disclaimer...I play over 100 rounds a year, and I've played all of the US. So my opinion is based on a wide array of courses.
Raven's layout is solid! Loved the mix of holes and the use of the bayous and lakes to shape the course. We had played their Links course 2 days prior, and this was definitely the better track.
They had aerated about 2 weeks prior, but the greens had recovered nicely. Sand in the bunkers was very loose and deep (almost exactly like the local beach sane), but otherwise no big issues with conditions. Tee boxes could use some attention, but that is typical of a high traffic resort course.
Multiple tee box options give every handicap a challenge, so anyone can enjoy this course.
The discounted price (because it was in the 2 week aeration window) was about right. Not sure I'd want to pay the normal rate over other options in that price point. So the price is a little on the high side IMHO.
