Baytowne at Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort

You are better off going to a mini golf course than playing this hot piece of trash that I played today. We paid resort prices for a golf course that would make your local muni look and feel like Augusta national. These "greens" look like they have caught a case of shingles and they appear like they haven't been mowed in weeks. The tee boxes were beat down. The mud traps had feral weeds growing everywhere. Fairways were okay for the most part aside from a few that had a case of crab grass. Ponds had so much algae sitting on top of them that they started stinking. Pace of play was horrible, Marshall came up and I asked about the group in front of us having 2 holes open in front of them and was told we'll they are consistently playing. If i had paid $45 to play, this wouldn't be an issue, but double the cost, it isn't worth it. At the club house I said the course was awful and I was told "yeah, we have been getting complaints about it, sorry". Take the drive and find somewhere else to play. Play at your own peril.

I played Sandestin Baytown for the first time in a while. A lot has been made about how the greens are horrible, but they are making a comeback. As for the rest of the course, the fairways were in excellent shape as always and the tea boxes were pretty good as well. The staff is always helpful and very pleasant to speak with. I highly recommend the Sandestin courses.

We played 2 days in a row and the course was in fantastic condition. Staff was friendly as always. Can’t wait to get back next year!

Loved the course and conditions but the greens were not very good and the traps had a lot of rocks in them.

It was like the green had not been cut very slow and bunkers needed more sand.

I’ve played here many times, and love the layout of the course. The staff and amenities are very good. Unfortunately, they let the greens get away. I happen to be playing with a former golf course superintendent, and he explained in detail what had happened. Basically the grass on the greens is growing on top of itself and it’s going to take a lot of work to get them in good condition again. The greens were very slow. We were all struggling and there were many 3-puts. Very frustrating.

It appears the management company is not investing in Baytown, and there are rumors floating around that major changes are coming.

This course was manicured and has a great layout. So I don’t understand how you could manicure your Fairways , tees and all surrounding and not your most valuable asset - your greens !! You can have mediocre fairways and tees and still have value to your course by having playable greens .

The greens were weed free but were so thick and slow your ball would jump a foot in the air if you were putting against the grain, and dart left or right because of the puffy turf . Making them just unplayable. I can’t explain why someone would not put the effort out to manicure your greens on such a beautiful golf course . I don’t believe this was the Superintendent fault but upper management fault .

The sister course the Raven next door the greens are fantastic. Why would you go to the expense of spending all this money on manicuring everything else and not the most important part of your course . I am a retired Golf Course Superintendent and know the Troon management has higher standards than this . So sad to see a great course be miss managed like this .

It’s been a while since playing this course and must admit, I was a bit disappointed. Pace of play was slow & greens were less than expected. There were a lot of weed around the green and tee boxes as well. Just don’t seem like it was worth the price.

Play this course numerous times over the last 4 to 5 years. The last few times I have played it definitely needed some work and one point I told myself I would take my money elsewhere . I gave it 5 stars after yesterday’s round . Course was in the best shape that I’ve seen in four or five years , greens are still slow but definitely playable . I would definitely play it again . Hopefully they keep up the good work.

Definitely the nicest place I've ever gotten to play. I was originally put with a large group but Terry the starter (awesome guy) allowed me to go out solo 10 minutes earlier if I agreed to keep pace with the group ahead of me. I made that deal and still had time to take pics of this beautiful course.

Played Baytowne today and left disappointed. For a resort course at resort prices, the conditions are well below what they should be.

The greens were the biggest letdown. They clearly hadn't been cut — extremely slow, and mowed unevenly, so you get different speeds on the same putt. The bunkers are neglected: weeds growing in the sand, standing water pooled in the middle of at least one, and drainage pipe sitting exposed where the sand has worn away (photos attached). There are also several sprinkler leaks around the course, which leaves wet, mushy areas in play.

It was 90 degrees with a heat index well above that and there was no beverage cart on the course. When we asked, we were told there was "no one available." On a day like that, water on the course isn't a luxury. And the on-course restrooms were worse than a truck stop — dirty, and clearly not being checked or cleaned.

What bothers me most is that none of this is news to the staff. Ask about the greens and you get an apology or an excuse. They know. It's not a surprise to anyone working there — it's just not being fixed.

Sandestin is a beautiful property and this course has good bones, but right now it isn't being maintained or managed to the standard the setting and the price deserve. I'd recommend golfing somewhere else.

Overall not bad,love the layout and it has plenty of sand.The greens are very slow,we were told the greens were punched a few weeks ago.The sand "looks" hard but on most of holes it's not a problem. Using the "golfnow hot deals" price ,I would definitely play this course again.Play early if you can, pace of play was GREAT!

Weather was very hot but completely enjoyed playing the course with my sons. Staff and Marshall's very informative and friendly.

“Slow greens” does not tell the whole story. Admittedly I did get a warning from Golf now about green conditions being an issue but I guess I didn’t realize how much of an issue it was going to be. It’s like putting on a fairway. Shaggy and almost impossible for a ball to go straight. Worse than the practice greens. Thankful the rates are reduced
