Alligator on course Photo submitted by u000004256901 on 12/25/2012
Water, water, everywhere
Beautiful course in a wetlands nature preserve.
Good fairways and greens. Watch out if you hit left to right take lots of balls.
Very short course so take your friend who usually out drives you by 40 yards. He/she will have no advantage here
Little pricey for the area.
Nice course
Nice course, well maintained. It was fast to play, and enjoyable. No disappointments, no special thrills.
Great shape- lost of gators!
Short course. Conditions were great. Lots of wild life. Would play again.
Water
This course is a lake with bits of land here and there for the golf holes. If you area low handicap player who can hit the direction and distance you desire every time, then this is a good course for you. If you are a mid teens handicap, take a lot of balls with you. Course was scenic and well maintained and there are many species of waterfowl and the occasional gator!
Highly recommend this course.
Staff was very friendly and courteous. Always enjoy playing this course with it's luxurious scenery and wildlife.
Fun!
Nice Course, lots of watet, challenging holes! Alligators!
Water is unforgiving
Lots of water and it eats up balls anywhere near the edge.
water on every hole
Short course but many interesting holes. Water, water everywhere.
Tricky in places but not overly long
We arrived just in time to get out in front of a group of 16 guys which was smoothly sorted by the starter. As we were finishing, they were on the 13th!
The course is not overly long but there are certainly some tricky holes and we should have been a little more vigilant about distances to water which is there aplenty!
The only disappointment was that we never really saw the ocean which we'd been led to believe was in view on the course. Maybe we're not tall enough!
It did not detract from a very enjoyable round followed by a couple of cold ones.
And the day was topped off by a visit to Golf4less on Summerlin Road. Well worth checking out.
Waterball??
I am well known for my slice, you should see me using my driver!!
Consequently I need a few more balls than usual. But it is a lot of fun. I play it whenever I am in the region.
A beautiful course and if you can hit balls straight, it is not too challenging, but remember it is not only distance, which counts.
alot of water
I play this course once or twice a year while visiting, Sanibel Island. Convenient because you don't have to leave the Island. Usually in good shape.
This is a course for straight hitters
If you are able to hit straight, water is not an issue. Checking hole by hole on the internet it looks way more impressive than it is in reality. The course was in perfect condition and the greens are rather easy. I played by myself in 2.15 hours.
Perfect Golfcourse
We played this course for our second time and it was perfect again, come back
Lot of water !!
Not easy for beginner golfer but very pleasant to play .Gorgeus vegetation, alligator and birds .Expensive without golfnow but a very good deal with golfnow price. Each hole has his challenge and different layout . A lot of water but intermediate golfer can to enjoy with this golf .
They offer GPS but the cart was without GPS !! So only 4 stars.
Fun and challenging
While this course is not terribly long, it makes up for it with lots if water, narrow landing areas, and small greens. Better bring extra balls!
Waterside
Interesting area in good condition. Greens are not easy but challenging. The holes are short and you dont need the driver every Time.
Water, Water, Everywhere!
What an experience at the Dunes on Sanibel Island! Water on every one of the 18 holes. Hitting the ball straight is a must or you will be going to the discount stores in Fort Myers to replenish the balls you have lost. Playing in the off season in late June meant the weather was going to be hot and humid, but it was summer, after all. Fairways were in excellent condition, but greens were tricky to putt and difficult to read. The course recently added new grass to the complex, and the course greens are nothing like the practice putting green. The staff is incredibly friendly. Playing shortly after noon meant that you felt as if you were the only person on the course which we were on a couple of occasions. The pro shop and grill close at 3:00 PM in the off season (summer), but that did not mean you had to get off the course. The wildlife was extraordinary with a dozen different types of birds and at least three alligators. Bubba is about 16 feet long and hangs out on hole #5. Holes #5 and #13 require layup shots so it is important to find out in the pro shop exactly how much distance you have in order to manage your tee shots on those two holes. - K.S.
Fun but tough
The course was in good shape and it seems that it gets very little play. I was able to finish my round in 2 hours and the starter was nice enough to let me play another 9. The greens rolled well and the water comes into play every hole. Brings lots of balls and don't be scared to leave your driver in the bag, this is truly a placement course.
Course features are challenging not for the beginner.
My only comment is that I had to wait for the sprinklers for more than 10 minutes. I was moving right along up until then. The course is challenging and the staff is fantastic to work with. Highly recommend to intermediate golfers and above. Keep the driver in the bag on the front nine. A 3-wood from the blue tees sets you up nicely for the approach shots.....Nick Shay
A lesson in humility
I shot an 80 the day before at sanibel golf club. I was feeling cocky, and decided to try the Dunes once more, having played it five years earlier. Although the course plays 5500 from the tips, you easily forget at first the reAson why you should play to your level of expertise. Trouble EVERYWHERE!!! After 9 holes, I moved up to the white tees, afraid that I would run out of balls otherwise. This course is so much fun, and so much trouble. A true test of target golf. Can't wait to play it again.
