Alligator on course Photo submitted by u000004256901 on 12/25/2012
Silly target golf
I had high expectations of this course, while it was well conditioned it is a silly course that requires 5 iron lay ups, overall disappointed with the design.
Sanibel is not for golfers if this is the island's best. Keep your expectations low and bring lots of balls.
Great "target" course on Sanibel Island
The course is in good shape considering all the rain FL has received this summer (2013). The greens were rolling following hole punched two weeks ago. very enjoyable, but best to get an early tee time to avoid slow play and summer rains.
Fun layout... Pretty short even from back tees
Like the course a lot..but we played pretty late..and caught up to a bunch of twosomes who were playing very slow.
Very nice track, short but lots of water!
Very nice track, short but lots of water! I would play here again!
greens needed some work, but puttable.
Course was in good condition, except greens needed some work. A little slow and grainy, bare in spots, but generally puttable. Short course, not requiring driver on many holes.
Great course, well maintained
The course is not easy to play. There is a lot of water on this course and you hit a lot of balls into the water, when you take it too easy.
Lots of carries over water
Be prepared to bring your long game. There is lots of water to carry. You can lay up on some holes but you need to confidant in your club distance. With that in mind it is faun course to play.
Beautiful . Watch out for the gators
Top of the line . Normally 120. Paid 49 golf now thank you! Played with a very nice Asian guy Peter from Milwaukee was a pleasure.
Challenging when windy
Nice course in good conditions. Greens could be faster.
Only 5.600 yards from back tees but challenging on windy days.
Nice course. Water on every hole.
The Staff was great. Very accomodating. The course was in good shape. The green were average and rolled well. Bring an extra sleve of balls. Water on every hole.
Very challenging course with lot's of water.
The layout of the course we really enjoyed. Unfortunately, we played the course under very windy conditions. The course isn't long but when you factor in a strong wind the course became unplayable for us. We each lost about a dozen golf balls. Water was in play on every hole. Without the wind the course would have been more enjoyable.
Great if you get a deal on Golfnow, otherwise too expensive
Great golf course, not too long, but pretty expensive. Rate was 120$, but we got a good deal on golfnow for 49$, which is a good value for the course. We encountered a few aligators and a big crocodile.. A bit scary but exciting at the same time.. A good course in a great location but a bit too overpriced..
Tight and waterlined fairways
Titan fairways in small greens make up for this relatively short course. greens were in good shape, and at sea level requires 1 to 2 extra clubs. friendly staff and nice clubhouse add to the country club feel. would play this course again.
Bring plenty of balls and your binoculars.
Nice friendly club feel to this place with a smiley Pro and Starter.
Course isn't long at 5,500 off the backs but its not about length it's about water which features on every hole. It's very much a thinking round rather than blasting off every tee with driver.
Pace wasn't good for the first nine but the ranger appeared and the problem group went in after nine and things quickened. Greens were good pace but not stupidly quick.
Wildlife was abundant with two very large gators sunning themselves along side a couple of greens. Ospreys all over the place and any amount of other birdlife.
Lost more balls here to the water than all my other rounds combined this trip but still enjoyed the course and would happily play here again.
This course has water everywhere. The fairways need a lot of work. The greens were OK.
We had to wait one full tee time before we could tee up. Play was slow. Fairways had bald areas and needed work. Greens were fair. Bring a lot of balls because there is water everywhere. Even at a discount this course is overpriced.
Extremely poor value
Rated slightly better than Ponkapoag in Canton Ma., a legendarily bad course made famous by Rick Riley of Sports Illustrated. Burnt out in January, ground under repair everywhere. Tight short and narrow with lots of water. Quick round, however, since sanded greens were so bad that we accepted 2 putts on each hole. I'd rather go bowling than play here again. I'm guessing this review will not get on the website. For the record, I did not play the course, my sister did and she is a member at Ponky. Also, for the record, she says I'm being overly generous in my assessment..
Lots of water
Challenging course with water on just about every shot. If your game is on, there is no problem to score well. Short course.
Will return. Picturesque.
Certainly short but...
This course is all about water and this is what makes this course challenging. But it's also what it makes it beautiful and nice to play.
Some of the fairways are just like carpet. Greens are ok.
Great golf, great day !!!
The course is extremely challenging
We played on Christmas Eve Day and it was very busy. The personel in the Pro Shop were not friendly. The starter and assistant was friendly and organized, despite the large crowd gathered to play. The club has lots of water (on every hole) and is extremly challenging. Nice scenery with good fairways and good greens.
Uses all your clubs...
Played The Dunes twice while on vacation here. Came back the second time due to the great shape the course was in and the value $ you get for excellent greens, staff, and electric carts with GPS monitor. Bring a few extra balls for the water or play conservative! Beautiful course!
