Hole #8 - Par 5 - "Empire" Photo submitted by Shawn2245237 on 03/08/2013
Solid track
I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at this course. Played in under 4 hrs. Course is in great shape. Greens were rolling true. Only negative was the construction adjacent to last hole on back nine so they converted to a par 34 on back nine. Heard the last two were Grt finishing holes. Staff was fantastic and very friendly. I wouldn’t pay the advertised $395 but very worthwhile at under $200 if u can get a desk on Golf Now or other tee time providers which I was able to get.
Excellent course.
Excellent course and pace of play was fantastic. Finished in under 3 and a half hours. Course was in great shape.
Great course
The conditions were great and the pace of play fantastic. We finished in under 3 hours and 30 minutes. I’ve played both Campions Gate courses and all three Disney 18 hole courses. This was in the best condition of all of them. Definitely recommend.
We had a problem with the twosome which we were paired with…..the twosome we were with jumped ahead of and played by themselves holding us up throughout the round.
We Called the -to shop and said they would send somebody out to handle and they said they would BUT no one ever came. AND, later in the round we saw and a ranger told him about the above situation..and his comments were I didn’t hear or see anything about this and left - not very nice.
Not worth the price tag
Played on a weekday morning. Easily allowed me to play by myself. Was a bit underwhelming overall for the cost to play. Great greens and bunkers, pretty good fairways as well. Some construction going on around the course and honestly just wasn’t as green as the grass should have been from the photos(and again expected from the price tag). Staff and service were nice.
Course adjusted
Back 9 was adjusted for building project but course in great condition
Masterpiece
I couldn’t find a flaw! The fairways were
groomed, the greens were fast and well cared for and the staff were friendly and attentive. Great experience!
Great Course! Recommend
This course was stunning. Extremely challenging for my handicap however very beautiful. Downfall right now was the project going on by the property while paying about 200 bucks for the round.. so there are some quite loud noises. Other than that had a good time. Many many elevated greens with bunkers and water on many of the Holes, misses are very penalized! Have fun!
Rep as a great course is deserved
1st class Waldorf execution of the bag drop, pro shop and 1st tee starter greeting. Large construction of new buildings is now underway. The back 9 has been shortened to just par 34 to accommodate the construction. All new greens on the back 9 are much firmer than the front, can't play shots to hole high yardage because of the extra release. Course is great shape and a good test from the blue or black tees. Definitely going back !!
Great course
Best course I’ve played on. Very challenging, water and sand traps everywhere. Make sure to hit your ball straight. Only bad thing is the food was overpriced.
Not worth the cost
I have played much better courses for a lot less. I was a single so I know it is also not really fair to judge my experience because of this. As a 2 handicap I got paired up with a husband and wife who did not speak english and shot around 130. I think I would of hard a much better experience with friends but the course is not that great for the money.
A Shame To See The Changes To This Once Gem Of A Course
To preface my review, this round was not my first at the Waldorf-Astoria. While I understand the needs and desires of real estate owners and hotel operators to maximize property values, the recent physical changes to the course were extremely disappointing to see and experience. The layout has been compromised, not just in shortening the course to a par 70, but the changes to the hole configurations (e.g., par 5's segmented into two holes) and practice area (basically cut in half with permanent hotel function tents down the length of the area). The good news (and the reason for the two stars) is the staff remains friendly, helpful and frankly apologetic to the returning guest. And the course maintenance was superb. The bottom line? To a first time guest, the experience and value for the price paid may be acceptable. To someone who saw and enjoyed what the course once was, it was sad to see. And the lack of forewarning was also disturbing. Lastly, the revised course rating is not yet in the GHIN system, so after a better than average round, another disappointment.
PS - I cannot rate the off course amenities. Everything was closed at 4:30 PM during the holidays!
