One of North Floridas best
The course was in excellent condition, greens were true and challenging, the front nine and back nine are almost two different courses,, lots of trees on the front, back had less trees but wasn't easier. The par threes had risk and reward, as we're the par 5's. Definitely somewhere to go for a special round.the staff was great, friendly and helpful. The players in front of us should have saved the fat tire beers for the 19th hole.
Great Layout
This facility was top notch all the way. Very friendly staff and the course was in great shape. Can't wait to go back.
Great Value
Great condition and staff willing to get you out earlier if needed.
Beautifully manicured and great staff
The staff were exceptional could not do enough to help, course runs by our apartment and was looking forward to playing the course, was not disappointed.
Great golfing experience
Great layout. Each hole is well designed, easy on the eye, and fair to those who haven't played the course before. Fairways are not overly tight, and approach shots have clear line of sight. A first class experience from arrival until departure.
Very Nice
Friends told me I needed to play either this or the King & Bear while in St. Augustine, and they were right. Really nice course. I liked everything about it and will definitely play here again.
Best course we've played in Fl.
I've been waiting to play this course since we moved to Fl. from Mi.It is way overpriced and out of our price range but I booked enough plays on Golfnow to get a free round for 3 players here. The course is beautiful. It reminds me of the golf courses that we play in Mi. for a third of the price. The greens are smooth and fast and the fairways give you great lies. There is also grass in the rough, something I rarely see here in Fl.I wish I would be able to play it again but Golfnow has changed their format so I think that's out.
A nice course
I was staying at the WG Village and figured I had to play the course on TV, right? It was nice to have the free range balls and the staff was nice. I got in on the twilight price to avoid paying the full price, which was too high. The bunkers had not been raked since the rain a couple of days earlier. They promised apples at the 10th tee, but they were all gone. It was a very nice course and I'd recommend it, but for the regular price, I'd expect a little more.
Great course
Great layout and conditions. Greens a little bumy but rolled fine. Course seemed to play longer than yardages. Played blue tees and around 6 par fourse was hitting 3 or 4 irons into the greens from 180-200 yds even though the holes were only 390-400 yds. Virtually no role due to soft conditions. Practice area top notch. Groups were spaced out and I don't recall having to wait anywhere to play a shot. Where was the GPS? There is no GPS. Great time I'll return if I have the chance.
slam good
highly recommend...pace of play was a little slow, but marshal was doing his best to keep things moving..greens were fine but hard to read...overall a great course
Nice but slow
Is like 2 different courses from front to back. Front side is lined with trees and water, accuracy is key. Back half is pretty wide open. Course was packed when we played, and had to wait for some extended periods in some tee boxes. 1 hole there was a group on the green, group in fairway, group on tee, group waiting at tees and then us. Ranger came by and instead of speeding up whoever the hold up was just drive by and said "boy it's a bit slow up there". Do your job ranger! Overall not as good as the King and Bear, and a lot easier but still a nice course with some pretty good holes. Wouldn't pay the $169 they ask for but for $79 was worth the play.
Outstanding layout
I love the layout of this course. The variety of shots needed made this a fun course to play. Played it this year and last year and the greens complexes are always very well maintained. Outstanding practice areas. I used a Golfnow discount coupon, so the price listed on Golfnow isn't the price I paid. In my opinion, the green fees is overpriced, but I guess if that's what people will pay then that's what the course should charge. Other than that, my partner and I had a good time playing this course again.
Killer course
wide fairways, great condition...greens were fast and hard....but also very hard to read..got a good deal thru Golfnow...full price fee just barely worth it, but I would pay full if no other way....very friendly staff
Awesome WGV!!
Great course. Love this track. Fairways and greens excellent and staff was top notch. Was on my Dad's 'bucket list' and it did not disappoint!
A 1 course
I played with another couple but both played well and the pace was almost 4 hours.
The course was in excellent shape even the hazards were a pleasure to get out of.
There was plenty of water and some long challenging holes but overall the layout was fair.
I definitely recommend this course to anyone else and I will attempt to play it on my return trip.
Great Day
Our group had a great day playing golf at the King & the Bear. The staff was friendly and helpful, the course is beautiful and in great condition; the greens are fast and true.
I would play it again for sure.
I like the layout. It tests working your ball right to left and left to right.
The greens are not as nice or not nearly as fast as St. John's CC but our price reduction thru GolfNow.com made this a good deal.
I would not pay the full price unless you can get a deal on GolfNow.
Play St. Johns CC for way less than this course's full fare if you cannot get a price reduction on GolfNow.com. If you get the reduction for The King and Bear, then play this course over St.John's CC, even with a slightly higher price for The K&B!!
Green Jacket
I thought the layout was very nice, not too challenging but hardly easy. It was complete with wild life, even a gator. The guy in the pro shop said the course was about 85% and he was accurate. I appreciate honesty. The only issue I had is the greens. The greens were thin in some areas and not consistent with speed. Not many of the greens were consistent. didnt seem the grass was mature at this point on the calendar. Do I plan on playing again, if I do and I want to, I need to know that the King and Bear deliver some professional greens for professional green! and not just an apple..
Greens
The greens were not in good shape.
Have played around Jacksonville the whole month and these were the worst.
Have played here before and they were excellent.
Not good for the price.
Would still play again, but ask about green condition.
Always Great Course and Challenge
One of my favorite tracks in North Florida. Tough test from any tee. Always in great shape.
