Very good design and playable for all skill levels.
S&S is a very good course in excellent condition. Greens were recently aerified but were good enough. Good golf course from the back tees for better players but still fair for women and shorter hitters. I've played the course before and will be back again when I'm on vacation in the area.
Course close to being in great shape
Course is great and pace of play was spot on but greens not quite back from being punched . We played 7-5. Give it one more week and it will be incredible.
Recently Aerated Greens
Flat, wide, open fairways with the occasional bunker or water hazard. The challenge would normally be found in the very undulating greens. They had been aerated about 2 weeks ago so were slow and bumpy. Free apples on #1 and #10 tee. Got caught in an early thunderstorm about 1230 and had to hide under the bridge between 15 and 16. There was no warning about the aerated greens on golfnow. I would have been quite unhappy if I had paid full price but could not really complain since I got a hot deal. Also free range balls.
beautiful layout.
At every teebox the views of the hloes were beautiful! Course was in great shape.
Excellent deal
I got a $25 coupon. So my rate was $44, a excellent bargain. But me and my playing partners. Didn't see the justification for $129 regular rates. Its a nice course. Apples were great. Layout was great. But it was just another florida course.
Good course, not so good conditions
The course was very nice but to pay 120.00 and have no one on the staff tell you the greens were just punched was a disappointment .....
Great course
It was a fantastic experience, first time we played there, hopefully not the last. The course was still recovering from being aerated. Another week an it will be in fantastic condition. Loved it.
Great Loop but was recently aerated.
The Course was great and even though the greens were recently aerated they putted fairly true. The rest of the course was in mint condition and I would recommend visiting the World Golf Hall of Fame along with playing the Slammer & Squire.
Beautiful flow from tee to green.
In the words of my countryman, Gary Player; "If you love golf, you got to go". I had a wonderful experience on this golf course, it is a good challenge but yet forgiving. Will go back any day.
Airified
Had played course in the past and couldn't wait to play again. Booked our tee time a month in advance. However, the course was aerated a week prior to our round and no one advised us. We were quite disappointed.
Ok Resort Course
Course is an ok design. King & Bear is better.
Wide fairways and fun to play.
Greens had just been punched so I got a deal on the rate, but greens had big holes.
Normal rate runs about $100-$125 and definitely not worth it, unless you are a tourist and just want to say you played the course.
Many other better courses in the area (On Golf-Now) that you can play for $50-$75.
wide fairways
Loved the layout. Wide fairways and forward tees give an 18 handicapper a chance when water or waste areas guard one side of most holes. The greens have just about recovered from being aerated not long ago. Golfnow "hot deal" made the cost palatable for this pensioner.
Fun challenging course... very friendly and helpful staff.
We had a great time playing here. Maybe the northern Florida residents rates helped, but it was fun. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed interacting with the starter (George) he came to meet us on the range and didn't rush us.. in fact, when we told him we were ready, he suggested we spend some time on the putting green. We did and he led us to the first tee... he told pictures for us on the first tee and showed us the barrel of cold apples. Watched us tee off and headed back for the next group. The course was in excellent shape and challenged us to hit the ball straight. We enjoyed the frequent appearance of a marshall asking us if we needed anything. We certainly enjoyed the mango scented cold towels on 15 and the closing holes. We ate in the facility and enjoyed our meals. We will be back.
awesome day of golf!
everything from staff to fairways to food was top notch! highly recommended!
Golf Hall of Fame experience
Coupled with the stay at the resort next door and the Hall of Fame visit, this was a great day for golf. The course reminded me of older courses with smallish, slightly elevated greens guarded by sand traps. Interesting layout with a variety of different doglegs. Not overly difficult. Very enjoyable course. Greens in good shape.
Played early morning and grounds crew were all over - disruptive. Lots of noise from mowers, weed eaters, etc.
Pace of Play
King and Bear just punched their greens so the Slammer & Squire was getting the spill over from people wanting to play there. Hopefully it's not the norm. Still 5 hours is a long time to play
2nd visit
Played it two years ago on a trip with friends. Course was better than I remembered. Holes were both fun and challenging. Definitely a "must play" when in St. Augustine.
Course Is A Show Stopper
Very pristine and very well maintained. Can't beat it for the money. Staff was very professional. Love to play this course and will be back again in the near future. Hope you get GPS back for the carts but the sprinkler heads provide for the distances.
Great course but slow play
Challenging course, must hit 'em straight. Most greens are well protected by sand. We played Friday afternoon and were very frustrated by a 5-10 minute wait on each hole, sometimes 2 groups on the tee as we arrived. Seemingly no marshals to regulate play time. 5 hour finish could have been closer to 4.
Slammer & Squire - Great Condition
The course is in pristine condition. It is a great layout, that is both challenging and fair.
