I found the experience disappointing given the high cost. The pricing is absurdly expensive for the course's condition; the layout was lackluster and doesn't justify the steep investment.
The greens were inconsistent and did not provide the smooth putting experience expected at such a renowned destination, severely detracting from the enjoyment of the round.
I recommend spending a little more to play at Dye's Valley at Sawgrass instead, it offers a superior layout and better maintenance. Slammer & Squire left me underwhelmed and it wasn’t worth the visit.
Going downhill
I have played here in the past and the course was in terrific shape. Now, not so much. Granted April 5th was a company tournament, but if I had paid full price and gotten to the first hole green I would have immediately returned to the club house to ask for my money back. Unacceptable condition for a $150-$175 golf course. Hole one green isn’t the only green in bad shape either. The 2 restrooms on the course one on hole 6 and one on hole 15 are absolutely disgusting and look like they haven’t been cleaned in a year. Gross. Do better Slammer and Squire.
Herbal greens, Fairways, OK?
First off, the greens are absolutely horrible, Worst conditions of over 40 rounds this year in Florida. Over priced, slow play 5 hours, won’t be coming back anytime soon…would be ok if under $60
Overpriced
Top of the list for not worth the money. No gps and poor conditions
Great layout,Horrible greens!
Course payout is great, some nice target golf, unfortunately greens were in terrible condition, and the few that were good were so slow and fuzzy. Staff was great and practice area was very good.
Rough Shape
Course is a beautiful layout, but appears to be neglected. Greens are full of bare spots with green fertilizer or coloring applied in an attempt to make them look better. Fairways are hard and closely mown. Specifically wanted to play here because of the Palmer/Nicklaus connection, but left disappointed. Could be a beautiful place, but needs a lot of TLC. Definitely not worth the $160 charged in present condition.
Loved the course
Staff was absolutely lazy in every fashion, if I own this course I'd be upset of the help, may has well been self serve
Overrated
Greens were In terrible conditions for the price paid
Renovation
It seemed like the cost was in much better condition prior to the renovation. Didn’t see any changes to the cost at all, certainly below what I have experienced in the past.
Trop cher
2h30 pour jouer le premier neuf. Les verts étaient horribles. Le terrain ne vaut pas le prix demandé.
A Mess
Went there with a tempered expectation after seeing all the negative reviews. The negative reviews were spot on. The greens were terrible as were the tee boxes. This course should be better in the shadow of the once proud hall of fame location. It’s a shame because it is a great layout. Not worth the money. Go play somewhere else
The greens were awful
I’ve never played greens in this bad of shape. Not only was the grass sparse, you could tell where the previous holes were for at least the last month or more.
Not worth the price
Disappointed with the course especially for the price. Nice fairways but the greens were in terrible shape especially on the front 9. I spoke with a staff member who advised members voted against treating them in the fall and a fungus killed the grass. I wouldn’t recommend playing this course for the price.
Play else where
Staff from the front desk to the starter were not concerned about their guests. We played TPC Sawgrass, Deercreek Country Club, and St. Johns Golf and Country Club with no negative issues. The only friendly staff member at King and Bear was our lunch waitress. The rest of the employees were happy to take our money but had no concern about making sure we finished our round in the daylight. If you want to feel like a number and not a valued guest then this is the place to play.
Utter disappointment
I’ve been playing this course for quite some time and it is in the absolute worst condition I have ever seen it. The greens are a disgrace. 1/2 of them are spray painted mud with very sparse grass. Horrible is an understatement. We should be refunded 3/4 of our money. It’s worth about 30 bucks to play here right now. There are plenty of other courses in the county that have grass on the greens. No excuse for these conditions and to charge over 100$ is a slap in the face.
Pour Greens
The greens were bare in a lot of areas, nowhere close for the money. Price not reflective course conditions
