Great hole! Photo submitted by dongolf0123 on 04/21/2014
They continue to struggle with the greens for whatever reason. I thought having champions Bermuda on the putting surfaces would be better this time of year. I know they had a bad infestation of poana but it has died off a couple months ago.
The tee boxes were shaggy with seed tassels growing on top and the fairways were also shaggy as well. We did not mind the fairways so much as the ball really sits up with the longer grass.
I definitely would recommend playing here if you can pick up a hot deal but cannot recommend it for $95 around with the conditions such as they are.
The pace of play was also excruciatingly slow. Living in this area we are limited by the amount of public courses where we can play. I've been playing Callaway gardens for over 20 years and I absolutely love the challenging layout. I just hope they can get their turf Care figured out and it can return to the days of yesterday.
Weather Maybe?
I'm hoping it was due to recent rainy weather in the area, but the fairways were so long most of the time you couldn't tell if you were in the fairway or rough. Overall course management seems to have slipped, hoping it is better next time we visit.
Nice day
Course was an overall pretty good condition, although the greens needed to be Mowed , so that your drive would roll out a little further, and you wouldn’t catch a flier lie
EC
Great course, always love playing here. Greens were in rough shape and could use a bit of work but always pleasant to play
Mountain View
Mountain View was in terrible condition. It is a stretch to say it was worth the $35.00 I paid.
Terrible, and disappointing!
Great scenery
I love the views while playing my round. The greens need work. The bunkers need more sand. I enjoyed playing.
Very solid course
Aside from a few rough tee boxes, the course was in good condition. Great design and nice views
Fairway Turf was exceptional
Really enjoyed the ability to hit quality iron shots from the fairways !!
Great day for visitors
My niece was in town from Florida for memorial weekend and had always wanted to play the lake course. She is a decent player and was very satisfied with her experience. The pro was very cordial and helpful when we checked in. Starter was friendly and informative and got us out a bit early to get in front of a large group that was actually scheduled ahead of ours. Course is in wonderful condition with greens rolling true but not crazy fast. Overall great experience which I highly recommend and intend to enjoy again! Well worth the price of the hot deal.
Pure FUN
The course was not as pristine or as well flowered as in past years. But it was still a gorgeous place. A few greens seemed like they had been scalped. But the fairways were wide and welcoming. The greens were pretty slow so a hard hit put was more likely to be short than 6 feet passed the pen. I was happy with that. They seemed pretty flat but I swear I have never hit as many lip-outs in a round. It was a FUN day.
HORRIBLE COURSE CONDITIONS
DO NOT play Callaway Gardens at Pine Mountain, GA. Under new management and they don't have a clue about how to maintain a golf course. Both courses are in terrible conditions. Everything (fairways, greens, tee boxes, etc.) overgrown with Poa Annua and other weeds. Greens haven't been mowed or the cups moved in a month. The sand traps are hard pan versus fluffy sand. Tee boxes are approximately 4 foot by 4 foot and ate up with divot marks.
Terrible Condition - DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!!
Have played Callaway Gardens numerous times over the last few years. So when an early tee time (7:30 am) was available, I scheduled our weekend four some to play. Arrived on-site and everything (bag drop off, parking, carts, check-in) was normal. Went to the practice putting green and was shocked at the condition. The green was completely infested with Pia Annua to the point where puts bounced all of the place. Went to the 1st tee to tee off. The Marshall shared the course was under new management and the course was not a prestige as it’s former days. He was telling the truth. The course was infested with Poa Annua and other various types of weeds. The greens had not been mowed. The grass height and Poa Annua made it impossible to put anything without a full shoulder turn. Even then the ball would bounce in every direction and end up short. The tee box markers were placed awkwardly to make golfers tee off in a six foot area. The bunkers were hard pan. Not the normal fluffy sand. The fairways and rough were infested with weeds. Not the normal plush Bermuda grass. Basically the overall course quality would not stack up to a $30 municipal course. I highly recommend not playing at Callaway Gardens!!! And a note for Callaway Gardens new management, please get your two courses back in prestige shape!!!
In need of some attention
I have played this course for many years and this is by far the worst I’ve seen it. The fairways were on need of mowing and the greens were on terrible conditions. There were considerable amount of weeds and rough patches on every green. I’ve never seen this course in this shape before. This is not the Callaway course I remember. I’ve spent less on muni courses that were in better condition than what I experienced.
The greens and tee boxes were very disappointing. We’ve been coming here for the past three years and this has been the first time I’ve been disappointed. I think we’ll check the reviews closer and wait until later in the summer to see if they come back to normal.
Wow so bad
The price went up and the quality went down. Really bad place
Horrible
The course is in terrible shape, nothing is being maintained. The greens are unputtable mud and weeds. Save your money!
Greens are awful
Tee boxes and fairways are nice.. greens are filled with poa Anna. Virtually unputtable !
