Good course to play on vacation
Great shape considering recent aeration. Played in August - not many ppl out there bc it was summer. Played at my pace.
Great Conditions and a Lovely Setting
The course is in excellent condition and well maintained. Fairly friendly fairways, and minimal water but I found myself in a couple of "well-placed" bunkers. The setting is beautiful and roaming deer add to the atmosphere. If you can bear the mid-day heat, you should find little traffic on the course this time of year.
A beautiful golf course that meanders through the oaks and pines of Jekyll Island.
It is both a fair and challenging golf course. The fairways are very well maintained. The greens roll true and have enough changes in elevation to make reading them fun. The staff is very professional and courteous. It was a pleasure for mywife and I to play.
Greens need some work but overall pretty good
Greens need some work but overall is a nice course and layout
Great Value
Paid $12 and had a blast. The course was not in immaculate condition (late summer) and the greens were soft and slow for my tastes, but it was still a very fun, playable course. Had a great time.
Open course with good value for the GolfNow price
Of the two courses, Pine Lake was in in better shape than Oleander. Greens were in poor condition at Oleander. Staff was moderately friendly. Overall good value for the price.
The fairways and greens were in great condition
Everyone was very nice. The only thing that could have been better was if there had been more yardage markers.
Good value, friendly staff, slow greens
I have played all the Jekyll courses over the years and I'll continue to do so because of the fair pricing. The layouts are pretty interesting and the wildlife and nature views are outstanding. I played Pine Lakes this year and found it to be the best conditioned of the courses. The downside of all the Jekyll courses is that the ground is too soft, in my opinion. The soft ground results in very slow greens that don't put true. I just tell myself to expect that and feel that it's still a fair value for the rates they charge. It seemed that the staff had not cut new hole locations recently, because the edges of the holes were not sharp.
Greens are in horrible shape
I was expecting a well manicured course and found the complete opposite. The fairways were decent, however the greens were in horrible shape. There were bare spots and fungus growing all over them all. They were extremely slow and because of the bare spots the ball was bouncing all over the place. We were very disappointed.
In good shape
The course is in really good shape. The greens were a touch slow but very playable, tee to green was excellent, and the bunkers were maintained. Overall very enjoyable and peaceful.
the course has great landscape..
some of the greens were bare and had little grass on and it had sand on it. it had some grass that was in need of some cutting , but overall it is a very pretty course . we will play this course again even tho it is a little ways from where we live.
good course but needs tweeking
The total experience was less than expected. The course personnel were good, the course itself was in good condition. I was disappointed in two areas - the driving range. and the availability of cold drinks. When the provided token was inserted in the range ball machine it delivered about 10 balls ( this for a three dollar fee) The sign at the Starter station read " no personal coolers allowed " I thought well, at least we will have a cart with drinks and snacks - no such luck. The two water coolers on the course, one was cool the second was warm. This with almost 90 degree weather.
Great Value for a Beach Course
I played my round in early July, and I was impressed by the low prices for a Saturday afternoon. Two of the other courses were closed for green aeration, and it was obvious that Indian Mound had recently been aerated. Regardless of the aeration, they were not in great shape (bare patches, brown turf), which is surprising considering they are bermuda. However, the rest of the course was very well maintained, and the staff was very nice. A great golf experience, and I would recommend playing here.
Course was over booked. Greens were in bad shape. Punched greens right before a holiday weekend(4th of July)
Played behind a group of 4 that hacked it all over the course. Would not let a group of two by. Even at the turn when two of the group were getting food at pro shop. Marshall no where to be seen.
awesome staff great course
Wonderful experience. Everyone was extremely friendly and helpful. We will definitely be back.saw a lot of wild life. It had a steady sea breeze. Good pro shop, driving range, and carts
Beautiful scenic course.
The fairways are wide for any type of golfer. Excellant condition and very friendly staff. The greens were just aerated, so they were very slow. This was the only reason for a 4 on the review. The greens were bumpy and no a true roll. First time we have played the golf and will play again.
Nice Course!
I really enjoyed this course. The fairways were relatively narrow which provided a challenge. The greens were recently aerated, which caused some difficulty putting, but it was very enjoyable.
The course needs attention to the greens
The greens were the worst Ive played on in years. The holes were cut in the worst possible places on the greens. The greens were not cut and very slow. Fairways were also very high and hairy
Nice layout that needs some TLC
The entire Jekyll Island golf complex is wonderful, but Oleander lags behind the other two 18 hole layouts, primarily due to conditioning. Granted, the recent rain has prevented much in the way of mowing, so the fairways were a bit shaggy. Also, the greens were sparse. I played Indian Mound later in the day and the course was in better shape, but it seems Jekyll is placing all its conditioning attention on the Pine Lakes course, which looked positively pristine. If Jekyll would invest some time and energy in Oleander - perhaps close the course for a few weeks to allow it to dry out and for the greens to recover - it could be a gem of a course. The layout, which features several short, tight par fours and a few wide open par fives, is terrific. If only the conditioning were up to par with the design.
Very Nice Course
The course was in excellent condition. Wide fairways and not much trouble. Greens had recently been aerated but they still rolled very well. Pace of play was very good. The only reason I am not giving a five star rating is because there was very little drinking water on the course and no cart service on a Sunday morning. Other than that, everything was very nice.
