Played twice
I enjoy this course as a vacationer in St. Simons. It is convenient and decently priced. The course is built into a residential area with some new home construction. The course is very well maintained and offers some challenging holes with the addition of native grasses and rough. Fun to play, long par 5s. several challenging shots over water and others with bunkers surrounding the greens.
Great course
Played the course in 3 hours flag. The course is challenging but not overbearing. The fairways and greens were in unbelievable shape. For the money , pace of play this is a great place to play on the island.
best conditions in 17 years of playing Sea Palms
I have been playing Sea Palms for 17 years. The course is in the best condition I have ever seen. Through fsir WA yes are firm and full and the greens are rolling true. The most notable improvement are the sand traps. Good sand through out.
Should offer aeration special
We were unaware that they had aerated the greens. We did not get to play the front nine, but were diverted to the West nine. It is a short "executive" nine that was in terrible shape. We have played aerated greens before. These were the worst we've played. Several diseased and dead spots on the greens. The only salvation was the regular back nine. It was in great shape. If it had been as bad as the West nine, we would have been even more disappointed.
Sea Palms Golf
Course was in great condition and a fair test of 18 holes of golf. Only negstive aspect is the driving range is a cart drive away from Pro Shop and first tee.
Fun Challenge
Very well maintained course, greens quick but not lightning. Some wide open fairways, some tight. All in all a reasonable test of golf skills without being overwhelming. Finishing holes a little tough...maybe because I started spraying my shots the last three holes....Driving range is not in the best location...about a 5 minute cart ride, but it is what it is. I would definitely play again.
Greens
Greens were in great condition. Very good value for $40. Don't know that I would want to pay more for this course, though.
Sea Palms
We played the 18 hole regular course. Overpriced for what it is. Course overall, was in good shape. Fun course with some neat holes. Greens were average/above average......but not very fast. Fairways were spotty on some holes. The 3 finishing holes are really good.....especially the last hole. Our group almost missed our tee time because of the restaraunt/grill. What a fiasco...servers messing up orders...forgetting orders and overcharging! Do not eat here. We ended up teeing off about 3:30 on Saturday and the course was very busy, however there was no beverage cart. So plan accordingly. Pace of play was good.
old pirate
Friendly, helpful staff
Sand traps in excellent condition
Greens are fast-just my style
Look forward to playing there again
Lots of improvements from last year.
We have played Sea Palms many times in the past. It is a convenient course to play on St. Simon's. Previous course conditions have not been very good and not maintained well. A pleasant suprirse when we played this week; New plantings around the course, sand traps newly renovated and maintained, rough and fairways all maintained. These were solid imporvements over the last time we played this course. Starter was very friendly and accomodating; the person inside was cordial enough, but was not in the 'super friendly' range. Overall, a great day at Sea Palms!
Great short course but the starter needs to be fired....
I have played this course a few times since moving to coastal Georgia 4 years ago. I have notice that over the years major work has been done to keep the course in good condition. I played the course Sunday 12/08/13 and had the experience that I have never encountered at a golf course before. The young man working in the pro shop was great and very friendly but the starter was very unprofessional. He had no people skills and made us feel like we were unwelcome on the course. He had a very demeaning attitude which gave us the impression that we were not welcome. It is my experience that starters are the leading cause for people to decide whether they return to play a course again but this individual made my decision very easy.
Excellent value, the course was in very good condition.
Good greens, nice bunkers, very playable and enjoyable.
Good Semi-Private Course on SSI
Sea Palms has had a lot of work done on it this year. I have played it for years and it is in the best condition now than it has been in a long time. It is still over priced unless you can find a "Hot Deal" on Golfnow. The courtesy and helpfulness in the golf shop is inconsistent as well. I played with 3 of my friends on 10/13/2013 and I think the guy in the shop was great. We played several weeks ago and a young guy really went out of his way to make it difficult to play. We wanted to start on 10 to get ahead of the Men's Group. There was no one on the 8th or 9th hole and he still said no. It's a nice track and really enjoyable if you catch the right people in the shop.
Beauty surrounds this course
very well layed out, has some holes that have amazing shots that can be played, can intimidate some Golfers, I found them not only breathtaking but very nice to play.
Great conditions
They are really doing a great job at this facility. Work is continuing and it improves everyday. I ' m so glad that the new owners are willing to spend $ 's on the course.
Good course but...
The course needed updating badly. The some of the greens were in rough shape and the fairways were falling behind. The sand traps help great amounts of water after it rained making and shot out of the trap almost impossible. With that said, they are updating the course. I see new sand traps drainage being installed, additional landscaping being installed (mounds with saw grass) and they seem to be going at great length to revive the course as a whole.
Great course-know your club selection
The greens are super with a true roll. Love the sand traps with fresh sand. Plus the fairways and tees are in excellent shape. Perfect layout for golfers looking to use every club in the bag.
Excellent value for Golf Now rates.
Sea Palms is an excellent course and is undergoing some remodeling that will improve it further. Native grass beds are being added for aesthetics and the bunkers are being rebuilt with better drainage and attractive white sand. I have found the greens to be excellent every time I've played there. The facility does suffer from some logistic issues. The driving range and practice area are located about a 1/2 mile from the clubhouse and across a busy road. This is fine for a practice session, but not to hit some balls to warm up before playing.
Overall it is a fun course, well maintained and worth playing on your trip to Saint Simons.
Overpriced
To be fair, there was a ton of rain on the day before my round so the course was not in very good shape. There was a lot of maintenance being done as I played in offseason so course is likely very nice in-season. I paid $60+ on golf now.com which seems awfully high for this course, even at peak condition. However, not many public courses to choose from on the island so price is probably going rate for St. Simons.
Well cared for course!
Played the West 9 hole course. Well maintained course. Re-doing sand traps with drainage. Would recommend to anyone. I was able to play with Tour Caddie without interruption.
