Fair Course - I expected more
So if your are staying at the Marriott or Hilton like I was in this case I would advise you not to play this course. The Taxi ride alone is a $70 round trip ride for a 6 mile run (no UBER). By the time you pay that and the green fees you are better off playing the Kings Course down the street. I happen to play that course as well and it is a true Golf Resort. Waikoloa Village reminded me of a muni course. The golf shop has no F&B selection, you have to pay for balls to warm up on top of the green fees. Really outside of the nice couple I played with this course was a joke.
Great course for the money
This is a great course for the money. They attempt to keep the pace of play at the optimun as they have a Marshall. The course is in good condition. The holes are challenging!
beautiful views
Well maintained course .. no wind today...rough was manageable. Fun day.
Slow play - fivesomes ahead
We followed 2 groups of 5 Very slow! how come they allow Fivesomes?
Best value on the Big Island
GolfNow makes this an outstanding place to play. There are many interesting holes that give the player a chance to use many of his/her clubs. Have always met nice pardners.
Windy day on Hawaii
Great layout, sunken the to wind, interesting gravel on the sand traps
Sad for resort courses.
First thing I want to say is that for the most part, the staff was great. I played two days, a Saturday and a Monday. The Kings course was ok, greens in poor shape but somewhat playable. The Beach course was just terrible. The greens on the first 7 holes had not been mowed in some time it appeared and when I caught up with the grounds crew on 8, the rest of the greens had been obviously cut that morning. Cut or not, the greens were almost unplayable, I was warned by the starter that there were "a couple greens" that had been affected by some fungus while in actuality, it appeared all the greens on the course were. Also, on a number of the greens, clippings were left on the greens to put through. And finally, to end my complaint, there were two holes that didn't even have a pin on them!
Not what I would consider a quality golf experience especially for a resort course that charges $150 plus plus $25 for a rider.
Disappointing
I played the Beach course from the back tees and it had some scenic holes, but the greens were in poor shape. For $150 I expect greens without burnt out patches. They were also slow, as was the pace of play (waited almost every hole). The first two holes had carries over 200 yards over water from the back tees, especially challenging on the par 3 second hole. Having played the much nicer and spectacular Mauna Lani South course a few days earlier, this one was a bit of a letdown.
Very nice
We stayed at the Village , watched people go by every morning thought it would be nice to play the course, and it was, booked it on golf now pricing was great, enjoyed the 18 hole course, beautiful shape, very nice staff, relaxed dress requirements, had a great time.
Course was nice.
Not bad at all. A great was to spent a few hours golfing with out breaking the bank.
Challenging Track
With the wind gusting from 20-30 mph this was a tough round. The course was in good condition and the pace of play was exceptional. I would say that the sand traps were interesting to say the least looked like pea gravel in them instead of sand. For the money this is a fantastic value and maybe worth another shot when the wind is down.
Nice Muni-type course
Got a very good deal from GolfNow.. so it was worth playing.
Beautiful simplicity
Here's a beautiful golf course , go out and play it !
Very playable course
Good course for average golfer. Wide fairways and very little trouble to worry about.
Great afternoon of golf!
Teed off at 1pm with my 11 yr old. This course has great variety of holes! Fairways are in great condition, ball rolls true on green's. Can play challenging from back tees, and can also be very playable for beginners. We finished our round (18) in 3 hours 40 min.
Fun course
My son and I were paired with a local that provided great tips on the course. Course in excellent shape.
You can't go wrong.
The course has a nice layout and offers some nice views of the Kohala coast. Mostly played by locals this course sits at a higher elevation than the courses of the Mauna Kea, Waikoloa resorts which drops the temperature a notch. The greens fee's are very reasonable. I played in the morning on the weekend for $29 on a Golf Now "hot deal". I have paid far more than that at this very course. You can't go wrong if you want a nice round of golf at a nice course at a reasonable price.
Great Staff
The staff was excellent, friendly, helpful. Worth playing just for the staff attitude. The ONLY thing i think could have been better was the condition of the greens. It looked like they had been aerated (sp?) recently and were not in the best condition. Other than that - great round. It would have been nice to be able to play 9 holes.
Goat Track!!!
We played at 7:45 in the morning, which is a premium tee time, do NOT waste your money. Course is in horrible condition, fairways are under repair and the greens were absolutely atrocious. I have played municipal courses at home with better conditions. Good luck, I would not pay more than $65 for this course right now.
Greens and Traps
Plugged greens and graveled sand traps are not that great for a course in Hawaii in the summer.
This review cannot be for Waikoloa Village Golf Club. It doesn't have a beach course and there is no water on hole number 1 and 2. Also, #2 is a par 4.
You must have played down at
the Waikoloa Beach Resort which is on the coast. Waikoloa Village Golf Course is 6 miles up the mountain from the beach. Too bad you didn't play at Waikoloa Village Golf Club! It's a great course and wonderful people and it wouldn't have cost you $150!
