About Wailea Golf Resorts (Maui)
Wailea is a Hawaiian resort and residential community in south Maui. It is home to three 18-hole golf courses and a collection of luxury beachfront hotels that offer stay-and-play Hawaii golf packages. Among the brands that are partners with the Wailea Golf Club are the Destination Resorts Hawaii, Fairmont Kea Lani Maui, Four Seasons Resort Maui, Grand Wailea, Hotel Wailea and the Wailea Beach Marriott Resort & Spa. An Andaz Wailea was also recently added. Fine dining is available at each resort as well as at the Wailea Golf Club's Gold & Emerald course, while an Irish pub is at the Old Blue clubhouse. Five crescent beaches make up Wailea, as well as a Tennis Club and a collection of private homes, condominiums and villas. The Gold and Emerald courses play out of the same clubhouse and were designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. Old Blue is the original Wailea course, opened in 1972 and was designed by Jack Snyder.Facts

my favorite of the Wailea courses
I think this is the best of the 3 Wailea courses. Its the least scenic of the three but I have never been impressed by the Emerald or Gold courses - other than some exceptional views.
Old Blue is definitely the locals course and for good reason. The track is reasonably difficult, its in great shape, and there is a refreshing variety of shots to hit. Bermuda greens always take me 2-3 rounds to get used to the "grain break" - but once you get used to it, there are some good scores to put up on the Old Blue.
The fairways are very generous and there is almost always a safe side to every fairway. Most of your approach shots involve factoring in the wind or some elevation change - frequently its both. Most of the opening holes play into the prevailing trade winds but you get payback with some downwind, reachable par 5's on the back.
Great Condition and Spectacular Views
The course was in great condition, very scenic, great attention to detail, greens run fast and true, views of the ocean and humpback whales on almost every hole. Each hole was unique and the round was a very enjoyable experience. One of the top five courses on Maui (others include Kapalua Plantation & Bay Courses, The Dunes & Maui Lani and the Wailea Emerald Course, plus The Challenge at Manele on Lanai is a must for the avid golfer). The round was topped off by Susan getting a hole-in-one on the Par 3 11th hole, #2 and counting .........
Over rated
Some decent views, but the course is not worth $150-$200, and is in average shape at best! Lots of "dead areas", grass is like crab grass which all seems like weeds. Cart girl maybe got around to us 3 times tops. I was disappointed after my round and the amount of money I paid thinking this was one if the best. It's not. For $70-80, fine but $150-200, not a chance of a replay!
emphasis on old
We just played old blue 1-2014.
I had read many reviews online and it looked like good value for a good course.
the reality was a bit different.
the experience was lacking right from the start.
no staff to greet us.
uninterested staff throughout.
very sad practice facilities, essentially a few ratty, with a few ratty balls into nets.
the setting of course is great in wailea.
overall the cost was high for a course like this.
if your going book the gold, very nice, or emerald, top notch.
look on golfnow.com for reduced fee's and enjoy those courses.
if you dare go to kapalua and really enjoy your time on maui.
Great course from facilities to the staff and track! Beautiful views!
The Gold Course at Wailea Is a challenging track with good length variety to choose from. Lots of elevation changes from tee to green create the challenge while forgiveness is often found in many wide fairways which collect off Center shots back into play.
Numerous bunkers in the fairways and protecting the greens will keep you honest and conscious of club selection.
The staff is outstanding!
Balanced Course
This course is very balanced between cost and condition. I've played about 4 times, and I've never complained.
I may be play again soon.
Awesome ocean views, perfect greens and tee boxes, excellant staff
What can I say, you are in Maui playing golf. Staff was friendly from start to finish. Greens rolled perfect and true. I probably would not walk this course due to the elevation changes. The wind was very strong but the views made up for it. I will be playing this course again when I came back.
Review
this course needs to be played by serious golfers and golfers who want to experience true Maui golf experience
Always nice to come back
We always love to play the Old Blue Course when we come to Maui. Now construction is finished around the course and we can enjoy the view. Staff is very friendly and the course was in good condition.
maui tour 2013
Played 4 courses this course was excellent. Staff is very friendly and customer service is of upmost importance. Top the day off by staying for dinner and enjoying sunset at truly authentic irish pub .
A real gem
What a gorgeous course. Along with being beautiful, the course was in magnificent condition. The greens were really confusing to me, as they were very slow and just didn't break as much as they look like they should. But that doesn't take away from the course at all. The course is very playable - big wide fairways. A very enjoyable round!
Low price alternative to Gold and Emerald Courses
I've played all of the Wailea courses, and there was a drop off between this course and the Emerald and Gold courses. I think there are better values on Maui.
Good course but not sure if its worth the full fee
I normally wouldn't pay over $130 a round but had a GolfNow Reward for a free Hot Deal round. We teed off 15 min. after the booked time because there was a tournament on course that hadn't finished its course. Because it was a tee time at almost 1pm during winter daylight hours I was a little concerned that we'd finish. Fortunately, we did finish with 20 min to spare. The course and greens were in very good condition. The greens were fast and rolling pretty true. Pro shop staff and course staff were courteous. The clubhouse was really showing its age. Overall, it was a good experience, but not sure if I would play it again.
Great golf experience!
Had a great round....can't beat the view from the fairways. The course itself is maintained very well, and the staff is friendly. The warm up area is small, and only has nets to hit into instead of an actual driving range. Because of this, it would be nice if the management spent more time maintaining it like they do with the course. Nevertheless, I would definitely recommend playing here when in Wailea. Beautiful place to play! Thanks for the experience!
A fun course to play. Great views and conditions.
Lucked out and got to play with very little wind. Played from the blue tees. Have many holes with elevation change to factor in. Greens were receptive and true. Hardest part for me was gauging the speed, with or against the grain. Not a tight driving course although there were a couple of holes with blind tee shots. Staff was friendly and driving range was adequate although I would have preferred hitting off grass instead of mates.
Course caters to slow play
Teed off on a Saturday afternoon. This course has no idea to pair people up. Twosome after twosome then a single. They want you to pair up after a few holes on the course. Three groups on every hole. We pressed the player assistant button a few times...no one came. The management was dismissive and rude to us. What happened to"while we're young"
the course had a lot of sand traps.
the course has some tough holes if you a want a challenging course this is the one to play. the fairways were wide enough that you could drive in. sand traps had nice quality to it that you could get the club through it. had a lot of scenery to look at. out of the 18 holes I thought 11 of them could be their signature holes. the greens were tough to read at times but the starter tried explaining the way to read them. I'm more use to reading green that break away from the mountain or breaking towards the water. I got a great price by using golf now. the course plays from 5300 yards to over 7,000. it is a true test of one's golf game. this is one of the best venues for golf in maui
Great course with beautiful views and attentive staff
Love to play in Wailea. Can't beat views! Course always in great condition and staff very friendly.
Very scenic and a fair golf course to play.
Course rewards good shots and provides enough challenges for a 12 handicapper. A couple of sand traps were a little crusty after a recent rain but I would assume that was not the norm.
Course staff were engaging to golfers and did the usual extra service things.
Golf club rentals were adequate except for the putter. I wish I has taken a better look and asked for a different one . It was pretty beat up.
I would play this course again when back in Maui.
Beautiful course with great views
The course was in great condition and had lots of variety-greens were challenging and fun. Had some holes with some well placed fairway bunkers so the course wasn't just a driving range.
Beautiful views and extra plus.
thanks for the info :)
