About Wailea Golf Resorts (Maui)

Wailea is a Hawaiian resort and residential community in south Maui. It is home to three 18-hole golf courses and a collection of luxury beachfront hotels that offer stay-and-play Hawaii golf packages. Among the brands that are partners with the Wailea Golf Club are the Destination Resorts Hawaii, Fairmont Kea Lani Maui, Four Seasons Resort Maui, Grand Wailea, Hotel Wailea and the Wailea Beach Marriott Resort & Spa. An Andaz Wailea was also recently added. Fine dining is available at each resort as well as at the Wailea Golf Club's Gold & Emerald course, while an Irish pub is at the Old Blue clubhouse. Five crescent beaches make up Wailea, as well as a Tennis Club and a collection of private homes, condominiums and villas. The Gold and Emerald courses play out of the same clubhouse and were designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. Old Blue is the original Wailea course, opened in 1972 and was designed by Jack Snyder.

Scenic course with challenging layout

Wailea Emerald has always been one of my favorite courses on Maui. It features a challenging Robert Trent Jones layout with unmatched scenic views of the ocean. The lush greenery and landscaping is very well maintained as well as the placement of natural lava rock formations that make for easy carries to forgiving fairways. The day we played the course it had been aerated just four day prior, so the putting was not as easy as it normally was in the past. It had also been raining lightly this day, so the ball did not roll as much on the fairways as it normally does here. How ever, with the rain, the course was less crowded so only serious golfers came out making the round's pace very fast - less than 3-1/2 hours!

This course is one of my favorites here. The staff is really friendly and the pro shop is one of the best anywhere. The only thing wrong with the day was that the course was cart path only and the range was closed due to the weather, which is understandable.

Great views, great golf.

Wailea Gold was probably one of the most scenic courses on Maui. On almost every hole, the views of the ocean and Molokini are a distraction to your golf. The layout of the course is challenging with the course designer, Robert Trent Jones II, making use of the natural terrain and prevailing trade winds to make the golfer think before selecting their club.

I have played the Wailea courses many times and have always had that satisfied feeling of golf fulfillment afterward, wanting to come back for more.

Outstanding course with friendly staff - a class act

The course layout can be very challenging from the back tees but is also very fair. The whites are quite reasonable for the average player. Course conditions were excellent and the staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful. Played in about 3 hours but the first six holes were as a single then joined a 2-some.

Overall a great experience and more affordable than either Gold or Emerald.

Good, would be better for $20-$30 less

Course was great, people were terrific. But certain aspects were very dated, including the warm up area. Parts of the course were a little beat up.
As for the track: big, wide fairways, with somewhat tricky greens. In good condition as it seems like not a lot of people play it. Good views of the Pacific from the hillside.
Overall, solid set up. Didn't mind the cost, but for a little less it would have been great.

Challenging and beautiful!

The course was in great shape and the scenery was awesome! The best camera shot to take is your approach shot in the fairway on hole 18. Practice facilities are great too. The pace of play was fine and it was nice to kind of take time to observe things around me. My wife doesn't play golf, but she rode with me on the cart and enjoyed everything about it. The staff was awesome and set me up for a good round. Next time I go back, I will be playing this course again.

Great course layout and good views from front 9.

We played both the Gold and Emerald courses. The Emerald course was pristine with great views throughout the course. The pro shop recommended we should play the Emerald twice instead of the Gold due to problems with the greens. We wanted to play both courses and glad we did. If you can only play one, play Emerald!

Most beautiful golf course ever !

My wife and I played many great golf course in Arizona, Myrtle Beach, Florida and Canada. But the Emerald course was the most beautiful golf course of all. You have a view on the ocean on almost every hole. You feel like playing in an botanical garden. The only problem is that you have to take your camera out of your bag more often than your clubs. I paid 110 $ with Golfnow, so that was a fantastic deal.

Overpriced and overated.

Arrived early and the staff were extremely rude when we tried to check in and refused to check us in until closer to our tee time. We had prepaid or we would have left. The course is not in good shape and many of the greens were in terrible shape. Better courses and much better values can be found.

Spectacular course.

One of the best golf courses on Maui. Great facilities and friendly, helpful staff. Artificial turf practice tees only drawback. Beautiful and challenging layout. Provides a variety of scenic vistas from volcanic lava flows to spectacular ocean views. A must play and bring a camera.

Beautiful coarse

The Emerald coarse was very nice, beautiful views, and in great condition. This coarse was not as challenging as the gold coarse, but it was difficult enough to make you think about your shot selection.

Great course; no marshal.

We loved the course. It took about 2 hours for the front nine. However, the back nine took about 3 hours. The group two groups in front of us ended up having four carts and five people. They took and exceptionally long time. Eventually some guy behind us it into us twice--ball landed 10-15 yards behind-- and even approached us and the man and daughter in the group ahead and yelled at us to speed up our play. He was way off base! I yelled back that it was people two groups ahead. The guy in front of us walked back and had a stiff conversation with the guy. There was no marshal to solve this problem before it happened.

Lovely course , good layout

I certainly expect more from the staff when I'm paying
175-200 for a round of golf. The starter seemed to be the only person happy to be there . All the other employees weren't polite
or friendly . I've played here several times before . The price has gone up and the employees are less friendly . I will not play wailea again.
