Saturday at Cranes
First time in 5 years, course in good shape and staff very friendly. Great value for the money.
Fix Greens
I want to give a higher rating but the greens are in poor shape. Putts should “roll” not “bounce”. Needs some professional maintenance and investment.
Great staff - course is rough.
Staff is great, but there needs to be more invested in maintaining the course. Also - the pond at the entry is rancid. If anyone reads these reviews please contact someone to thoroughly clean the pond, add additional aeration, and reduce the nutrient loading to fix the smell. It is terribly off putting.
Horrible condition
This course is one of the worst public courses I have played in this area. The greens were completely destroyed. Not worth your money at all.
Brutal Conditions
Probably the worst greens I've ever played regardless of green fees. I am pretty easy-going about conditions when I factor in the cost to play the course. I understand it can be costly and require a good amount of effort to maintain a golf course, however for this price, the greens were unacceptable, even more early May. It will take a few seasons to get those repaired and up to standard so this coming June and July expect no difference,
Rough Green Conditions
I have played this course 3 times in total and for the most part its not a bad course. I understand that its still relatively early in the season for Illinois golf but I found the greens were in very poor condition. Could be that staff has not been able to service them properly with a longer cold temperatures. I might play it again as its somewhat affordable but I do hope that there are improvements made.
Don't bother for at least a month
Usually enjoy the course. it was in THE worst shape I have ever seen or played on I have played on little 9 hole municiple course that we 15 bucks in better shape. It's one thing not to have nice lush green fairways yet in early May but there was rarely a soft green spot even dead center. And the greens were laughable, 50% baked out, and 50% nearly dirt so thin, barely usable. They should have at least mentioned prior to reservation, just as course do say if they if they are or have airated the greens....Mariott should be embarrassed to present that course as their Resort Course. Thanks goodness for great weather day and great playing partner.
I hate to make judgement here, but it really was bad....But hey, at least not a soggy sponge like it can be when river floods...
Expect a horrible odor
What a horrendous sewer smell right off the gate. It gets better as you move away from the parking and from hole number 10 and one.
The Greens are absolutely horrible.
It is so unfortunate for a beautiful course to have such a bad set of greens.
Avoid if you can.
Needs work
The clubhouse hasn’t been updated since the 70’s and the greens are horrible.
Quiet but windy
Overall you get what you pay for. We paid $30 for 9 holes with a cart. Overall the course was in the kind of shape you’d expect for early in the season. Greens were of wonderful. We pretty much had the place to ourselves.
Young lady who appeared to be the only person working was great. She was pleasant and helpful.
Getting better
I’ve played this course periodically over the past 40 years. In the past it was good but after years of flooding from the DP river it got really bad.
But they have turned the corner. They are getting better and the course is more playable than it has been in recent years. They typically have good deals and the course is not overbooked.
I hadn’t played it in years and I just played it for the second time this March.
Right now it’s a little rough from the winter but it looks like it’s bouncing back well.
I intend to play it again soon.
Don’t.
Course was in horrible shape. I’ve seen Edgebrook after a storm in better condition. Not to mention getting hit into multiple times and staff doing nothing about it
Opening Day
It was opening Day. The tee boxes and fairways were ok. The greens were too hard and ball bounced more than it rolled. Hopefully it will improve as it warms up.
BAD
It is criminal how much they charge to play at this course. Greens and tee boxes are so beat up and the fairways are patchy.
