Great Layout Let Down By Management
Lodestone is an absolutely wonderful course design, with a number of truly memorable holes and only one or two gimmicky setups.
Unfortunately, the course is very poorly maintained. Tee boxes are chopped up, bunkers are gravel pits, and virtually every fairway has at least some drainage problem that has led to ruts and mud. Greens are large, undulating, and covered with hallmarks that are repaired infrequently at best. Such a shame because this course could be great.
Pace
This is an ammendment to my previous review. There aren't any marshalls on this course (at least when I played). When I arrived to the 10th tee, there were 2 foursomes and a twosome that went straight to the 10th from the clubhouse that jumped in front of me. None of them would allow me to play through as a single. I know that's a risk you take playing by yourself but it's just frustrating to turn a 2.5 hour round into a 4.5 hour round. There were not any golfers ahead of me previous to this.
Stick with your local muni
I played here about 4 years ago and I thoroughly enjoyed the course. The layout was nice and the course was in good shape. Four years later and the course conditions of the course make my local muni look like Augusts National. The bunkers were terrible, the tee boxes had very little grass and the greens need some work. I paid $79 plus tax to play and I would much rather play my local muni twice for the same price. Until the course gets some TLC I would avoid playing this course, especially at the prices they are charging. They should lower the greens fees until repairs are made but I doubt they will
Place has really gone downhill. Traps were waste areas. Need better maintenance.
Beautiful course. Lots of potential.
Loved the design and nice views on most of the holes. Course condition was decent but drainage areas on fairways looked like they had just been unplugged and after the recent heavy rains made for some very soggy areas. Most sand traps were ratty looking with grass growing in them and erosion filling them in. Other than that I’d play this course as often as I could (or afford) if I lived closer. Basically this could be a tour level course with a bunch of work although I doubt most players could walk it because of the distance between holes and some of the grades.
Don't do it
One of my favorite course layouts in the state, but not worth the $160 for a weekend round. Management clearly isn't investing in the course. Sand traps are a joke, greens are shaggy and spongy, and plenty of burnout spots in the fairways. Poor value for the money, and has been this way since my last round here a few years ago. Hope someone can turn it around...
Beautiful scenery
The fairways were excellent, greens were in pretty good shape albeit a bit slow. Many of the bunkers have grass growing in them which I am not sure is by design or lack of care.
Not well-maintained
Course was not well maintained and sand traps unplayable, could be OK course, but doesn’t look like any money is put into it
Nice layout and views.
Love the course. Some traps need a lot of work. Some greens have spotted brown areas.
Save Your Money
Overall the course was in terrible condition, save your money. The layout was challenging but there wasn’t one bunker without grass (saw them all) growing and weeds everywhere. Not worth the $95. However, the employee in the pro shop was friendly.
Tees and greens were in terrible condition
Tees had lots of divots and only patches of grass. Greens were worse, there was some type of disease that left the greens pock marked and uneven putting surface.
Play and Enjoy!
Our foursome agreed that the course was well worth the money. Yes , the greens could have been in better condition, but the layout of the course and the views made for a great golfing experience.
